The run Disney events. Last year DH and I went during the event and it was awful trying to get to the magic kingdom. Waited on the road for about 45 minutes and then instead of getting dropped off at the front entrance we got dropped off at TTC!:headache: Had to take the ferry over. By the time we got there it was waaay past opening.

Is there a way to avoid this mess? Would leaving a lot earlier help? Can cabs get to the contemporary? Idk....

Curious to see any responses...we are going in Feb for first time during Princess Half weekend and I'm nervous. During which race did you guys travel last time?

I honestly don't know. We weren't there specifically for the event. There were multiple races. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I told myself I wasn't going to go at that time ever again but...alas....this is what our schedule allows.

I hope a runner can let us know what races are going on.

Depending on where your starting from, it would be cheaper to uber over to the contemporary to get dropped off.

if a disney bus (which I think is what OP took and got stuck) can't get around it, then an uber will not magically make it happen.

Yes we were on a bus. I guess that's what I'm needing to know. Is the street leading to the contemporary/magic kingdom open? Or blocked off? I guess if nothing can get through a super early bus ride is my only option.

We have done the same thing with Contemporary and you have other roads you can take to get into this resort to avoid any runs.

It would have to be the night before you did that trip and camped out in contemporary. If it's a race that includes magic kingdom, they are running up and down world drive past contemporary and through the park (or you really need to know the back ways into it). not all the races include magic kingdom though so you'll need to look at the actual race schedule to know what would be closed on what day. I think it's the half and full marathon that uses it.

I thikn I read that the coarse is changing a little but I loved these videos posted for one of them earlier in the year. it'll give you an idea where they run and what's not avialable to drive.

half marathon

full marathon

Thank you!

I'll be the lady in the tent at the contemporary! :hyper:

First-- Without knowing which run Disney event you are talking about, it will be difficult to give specifics.
If you are talking about the big marathon weekend in early January, there may be some difficulty getting to the Contemporary, as the road that runs under the canal leading to the Contemporary/MK is limited to one lane of traffic until the final runners get through. What time of morning that will be, I don't know for sure. I don't know if the full marathon race course map is up yet (supposed to be slightly changed from last year). Generally, that has been approx mile 5 or 6-- figure the last runners cross the start line at 6:30 am and are allowed 16 min/mile, that means there could be congestion until 8:00 am or a bit later (give or take).

Edited to add: a PP mentioned "other roads" to get to the Contemporary-- I am pretty sure the road under the canal is the only way.

Which weekend are you going?

January has the full marathon as well as the 1/2 and both go through MK.

@rteetz is running all the races that weekend. Perhaps he has some course info to share.

If buses had to drop off at TTC, that means the road that fronts Contemporary is affected. WL and boat to MK would be the easiest if you can get to WL the back way.

What events are you going to the MK during?

For half marathons and the full marathons that run through MK they have to drop you off at the TTC because the runners run through the bus stop roadway.

Leaving earlier will definitely help and that's the best recommendation I can give. I have done the January race weekend two years in a row now.

Correct buses have to drop off at the TTC because of the race course.
