Getting to know you....

Hi newmouse2008 and everyone else too.

I too am more of a lurker, but I post occassionally. My name is Brandy and my middle name is Lou-so no surprises there. I went to Disney as a kid, but became an addict as an adult. Luckily, my dear husband is also hooked. He still asks me why in the world we went to Jamaica instead of WDW back in 2006. And the kids--they've been brainwashed since birth. (We have 2 girls, Lorelei is 5 and Katia is almost 2). We live in the Fox Valley (Wisconsin) and only get to Orlando about once a year right now.

We finally bought ito DVC in 2007 (should have done it much sooner). It was a reward to my husband from himself for quitting smoking. He is still a non-smoker (almost 2 yrs now). I like to tell him that if he does start smoking again he can't come to WDW with us. :sad2:

I think I found the boards in or around 2006 and the podcast shortly thereafter. Now I amaze my local Disney friends with all the knowledge I gleam from the boards (ahem). Seriously, I have shown them the site, sent them links, but apparently they don't visit as faithfully as I do. They just call me and ask "What deals does Disney have going right now?" or "How far out can we book dinner?" At least those people don't make fun of my little obsession. But when I hear our 5 yr old going on & on about Disney I realize that maybe we are abit, umm, abnormal.

The podcasts get me through tough days at work (take my mind elsewhere), Saturday mornings of cleaning my house & car trips "up Nort" to grandma's house.

I have also gotten so many great ideas, not only about vacation planning, but about making Mickey head Christmas ornaments, budget/safe cleaning products, and countless other things.

Hi all!

I live in Aledo, Texas which is about 15-20 minutes West of Fort Worth. We just moved here in June of '08. For 32 years I lived smack dab in the middle of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex so the move to the "country" was a bit of an adjustment. I found the boards in January '07 a few months before our second family trip in March '07. We will be heading down in March, again, for the 4th year in a row for springbreak.
I originally use to post on the Theme Park boards more than anything but I discovered the Podcast in January '07, where have you been my whole life!, and pretty much exclusive post on this board now. I love how fun this board is. I don't belong to that group that all seems to know each other (lucky) but I enjoy posting and reading what is posted here.

Okay... I have to join in....

* only have pets, Megan (7 year old dog) and KC (20 year old cat).
* friends with tlterrynva (Tammy-Lynn) and markinrichmond (Mark) (met Tammy through the disboards and then met her husband).
* I live in Chesterfield, Virginia just 10 minutes south of Richmond, VA.
* been to WDW in Dec. 1997, Nov. 2002, and Dec. 2007.
* I am only allowed to visit WDW every 5 years (husband is NOT a fan), but I may have convinced him to visit this year. :cool1: Breaking the five year cycle, which will restart after this trip. :sad1:
* I first discovered the Dis Unplugged website before the 2002 trip but didn't realize it was the Dis Unplugged until later.
* Discovered the Dis Unplugged podcast Dec. 2006 and haven't stop listening since.
* I love to draw, hence the avatar and the signature line. :artist:

Welcome to the "family". If you have any questions, someone will have an answer. If you have something to share, someone will listen. If you have a comment, someone will have a response. If you are sad, someone will cheer you up. If you just want to talk, someone will talk back.

Gee, I think I just came up with the Disboard member motto. :lmao: All raise your right hand and recite. :rotfl:

stitchlover -- We were all strangers that came together on this board, you ARE part of the group...you just don't realize it yet (if you did, you'd probably be running!!! LOL)

Seriously, everyone "belongs" here and I hope those of us that have gotten to know each other on a more personal level don't come off as being exclusive, we're all one big happy family! :grouphug:

I am an Australian living with my boyfriend. I have always been a great lover of Disney I see every movie that comes out (even hire those horrible direct to DVD movies that I watch in hope that one of them will be even remotely interesting).

I was lucky enough to go to Disneyland and Paris Disney in the same year when I was younger and I always wanted to go to WDW but it was just a dream in the back of my mind.

A few years ago I was at a job I hated and in the middle of the day I announced that the ONLY thing that could make the day bearable was if someone would give me a trip to Disney. In my lunch break I went to a travel agent and got a booklet for Orlando and I bought a lotto ticket in hopes of financing my trip. I didn't win the lotto but from that moment on I was obsessed I spent all my time on the internet researching and stumbled on the Disboards and then the DisUnplugged.

I have been saving money ever since.

Since we're having a WV lovefest here :rotfl2: , I'd like to introduce myself as well -

My name's Molly (26)! I'm originally from St. Marys, a town both of you should have at least heard of (even if you've never driven thru it on Rt. 2  )

Funny you mention it, the wrestling company I work for used to have shows in St. Marys & I have been going there for years.

Hey, there....

I grew up in Lakewood, Oh and made the move to Colorado with my family at 16. I now live in beautiful Fort Collins, Co, home of the best microbrews and the design model for Main Street, USA Disneyland. I have been married for 6 years, have a 19 month old very cool son and have baby boy #2 on the way in June. We also have two stinky dogs (our first children) and one not-as-stinky cat.

I came to the boards for the first time when planning for our DCL honeymoon cruise in 2002. All the great info and great people keep me coming back!

We live about 20 minutes north of Boston.

My first trip to WDW was 1978 (I was 8) My parents took me and my 4 brothers every year until I was 20. We always stayed at Fort Wilderness in the family RV.

My DH and I honeymooned at WDW in 2001. He took the bait and I was successful in sucking him in to my obsession.;)

In 2004 we took our DD to WDW to celebrate her recovery and cure from cancer.

My DH finally drank the punch in 2005 when we became DVC members.

After our big purchase, I found the DIS after looking for more information about WDW.

Now we take a family vacation with our two DDs (5 and 3) every year and I visit the DIS daily.

Whipperwhirl (whip) here - Im a 34 y/o mom of 2 - ages 4 and 9. We are in Connecticut. I first went to WDW on my honeymoon in 1996 - but my disney addiction did not truely kick in until I found the DIS while planning our childrens surprise trip for Christmas 2008. So really I have a DIS addiction not Disney.

I did not find the podcast until the June after Bawb had already passed away but Im still a huge Bawb fan. Our next big trip is probably going to be camping for two weeks in November but I will be in Orlando on business in Feb and Sep also to get my fix.

Really I have only been away from the DIS a few days since I found the site. Those few days were only to recover from a beating I took on the Family board. Long story short - I can make anything out of balloons given enough time and money - I mentioned my balloon habit of bringing balloons with me while I travel to make random kids smile - now I dont dare bring ballons to Orlando with me because I might kill someone. I learned my lesson and now I mainly stick to the podcast board and the camping board where the people are more rational.

I love your family take on disney and can't wait for the podcast to come out every week. Thanks for letting me share my story - Whip

I'm Mike, I'm 36, and I live in the Lone Star State. My wonderful other half, Christy, is MinnieGarden on the boards. We have an amazing 5 year old son, Ian. My first trip to the World was in 1982, right after EPCOT Center opened. That was it for me. I became a Dinsey nut. I was mainly interested in the technology of Disney and could pretty much tell you about any piece of technology on Disney property circa 1983 and beyond. I guess that is one reason I am now a Network/Telecom/Automation Engineer in the oil and gas industry. Christy has a facination with all things flower and Garden/Food and Wine related at the parks. We also enjoy going to Spring Training and watching our hometown, Houston Astros. Ian's facination is with the transportation systems (just like every little boy) at WDW. We have no less than 10 monorails at our house including the monorails from Tokyo Disneyland. But, his favorite ride is the TTA. All though the first time we took him, we could have saved our money and just rode the monorail the entire time. He would have been thrilled with just doing that.

Christy and I have lurked on the Dis for several years and only realy became active since we started taking Ian to the parks back in 2007. We have been listening to the podcasts for 2 years and absolutly love them. We love the shows and the banter.
