Does any one know it it realy is easier to go around. Or is the time/ gas not worth it?
Is it easier just to go through?
And is it as bad as people say? We will be ariving on a sunday between 12:00 and 3 pm We will be south bound
Your 2 options coming from the North will be I-5 South straight to the
Disneyland Dr. carpool lane exit (Harbor Blvd. exit otherwise) or going I-5 South to the I-405 South & taking the route mentioned above (Hwy 22 East, Harbor Blvd. North). Unless there's heavy construction or serious accidents, it probably won't be worth it to go around.
Since it's a Sunday, you should hit lighter traffic in general, but both routes are prone to some congestion (slow & go), but there shouldn't be anything rush hour-like.
I-405 between Hwy 101 (Sherman Oaks) up to LAX will have pockets of slowing through the canyon by Mulholland Dr. & the Getty Museum, past UCLA/I-10 interchange through Culver City & possibly to Hwy 90. Once you get close to LAX it should be free sailing.
I-5 may stop some near downtown L.A., by I-10 interchange, by I-710 interchange & possibly as you hit L.A./O.C. border, but hopefully not on Sunday.
If you're wanting I-5 straight, you'll want to make sure there isn't a Dodgers home game on Sunday at 1 PM. Dodger Stadium is right off I-5 before downtown.
With any luck, traffic will be light which may leave you with an easy trip either way.
Unfortunately, the 57 is only an option for those coming from the east or south & would be out of your way.
Have a safe trip!
