We will be coming in on the Amtrak(not the Autotrain) into Kissimmee. I was planning to rent a car, but the car rental place is closed on Sunday, when we arrive and Amtrak rates are higher if we arrive on Saturday. Don't really need a car anyway, except to get to and from the airport. Any ideas on how to get to Disney from the station? How much would a cab be, etc. Is Kissimmee closer to Disney than the Orlando station?

Thanks,

Marsha

We use Amtrak all the time coming from Ohio, and yes, Kissimmee station is closer to WDW than Orlando. We use the cab from there to WDW and its about 35.00--38.00 plus tip one way. We had the station master call us a cab last time, no one was there and he came in 10 minutes, van type cab, clean cheery driver and we got his card for our return trip. You can have them stop at a store on the way, easier than going to resort and going back out to store if thats on your list, we just bus to DTD and walk to Crossroads the Gooding store, alittle higher than most other stores but we like the evening walk there, quite long, and we just seen DTD and were going to walk all vacation anyway snd its what we like to do. Orlando station is not what it seems from the train, in seedy neighborhood and last trip home, Wilma knocked out everything south of Orlando station and we had to get on in Orlando and cabbed there, trip cost us 68.00 that time, big difference between Kissimmee and Orlando.

Thanks so much! SO the Kissimme station is not as seedy? $40-$45 with tip is not too bad. I am bringing some snack foods, but will need drinks. I am assuming that Goodings is a groc. store? That is good info. Maybe I will take the bus to DTD and try that store, so I don't have to stop on the way.

Having taken the train from Phil to WDW now 5 times I can say after getting off at Kissimme once we now get off at Orlando. By the time you get to Kissimme you can be in WDW if you get off at Orlando. The station is perfectly safe and is no larger than the one in Kissimme. We have never had a problem getting off there nor getting on and have had to wait for the train to come. The cost of the transportation is not that much different. Most people do get off in Orlando that are going to WDW we have found. We take a towncar that runs us $90 round trip and is guaranteed to be there when we get there and picks us up on time to return with out a rush to the station. Several people we have visited with on the train have told us that the taxis run 35-40 dollars to WDW from there and the taxi driver who took us from Kissimme told us the rate is about the same from both stations.

Wow, I didn't know there was a train station in Kissimmee...

Is the train station in Orlando that you all are referring to the Sanford station, or is it a separate train line? :confused3

The Orlando station is not the Sanford station. Sanford is where the auto train comes in.
The Orlando Amtrak is right in the city of Orlando and I agree is a little seedy. The Kissimmee track is closer to WDW. My mom usually comes into Kissimmee and I pick her up. She is coming from South of WDW-West Palm Bch., so it only makes sense to go to Kissimmee instead of orlando.

I don't know the time difference btwn orl and Kiss stations.

The time difference is 17 mins according to the train schedule but it is more like 30mins with loading and unloading that takes place in Orlando.

If you are only looking to get some drinks, there is a Hess station right next to the Boardwalk resort. So if you are staying in the Epcot resort area (Yacht or Beach Clubs, Swan, Dolphin, or Boardwalk) it is very close.

What towncar service have you used, if you don't mind me asking? It would be nice to have something reliable there when we arrived. Also was the $90 including tip or not?

Thanks

The post that said a ca driver quoted the rate was about the same, I do beg to differ. I have always used Kissimmee station, cab rate to the Poly is 35-38.00 and once took the cab to Orlando train station and the fare was 68.00. Travel time is longer to Orlando, hence the higher fare. Yes, most WDW travelers get off at Orlando, but we like the non hassle of the crowds at the Kissimmee station. The 15 or more minutes further down the tracks to detrain without all the people looking for cabs, buses or rent a cars makes our trip less stressful anf saving the 1/2 car fare might not mean all to some but we consider it a saver to us. I have called some of the listedtowncar services, most don't pick up at Kissimmee and a few that do were in the 90.00 plus buck range, less tip. Cabs have been very good to us before and I can go to WDW and back to Kissimmee by cab for less why bother. We have made this trek over 14 times, prices hardly vary a buck or two and after that big buck cab fare from WDW to Orlando station we'll never go there again, only reason we did, Wilma shut down Kissimmee station and most headed south and we had to board at Orlando to return home. Also, detraining at Orlando is alot of people trying to get off and claim bags, when we got on there, thank god we had a sleeeper because the guests waiting to board coach filled up the whole rail siding and getting on one by one, asking questions and dragging bags and coolers is why this stop is around 30 minutes. Gets kinda hot out there if you're at the end of the line.
