I use Uber to go between Universal and Disney, it's about $14-$17 each way.

With 4 people you are better off with a car service, Uber or taxi than Mears shared shuttle. Also if I remember correctly, there is no one way fare on the shared shuttle between WDW and Universal. You pay the same whether you take the shuttle one way or round trip. and it is about $20 per person for the Mears shuttle.

also, if you're going to or from MK the dropoff is at TTC, not right at the park gates.

In April, we used uber for 4 people to go from Pop to Universal and Universal to Pop and it was around $14 each way. It was very easy. We got picked up right in the front at Pop and dropped off where all the taxis were at Universal. It's free for the first time when you register.

In January, we took Uber from CBR to Universal and back a couple of times. It was less than $13 for each of those trips and it was very convenient. If you've never used Uber, it's similar to a taxi, but you use an app on your smartphone to request a pickup, and payment is handled automatically because you link a card to the app. The fee is calculated based on the pickup and drop-off location and there is no need to tip your driver, which makes it much easier than a taxi if you're the kind of person who doesn't often carry cash. The rate can vary based on how busy the drivers are in your area, but we didn't run into any issues with that during our January trip.

I'm confused .. why don't you tip the Uber Driver. . ? Won't they get upset ?

I rarely tip, every uber driver that I offered a tip was genuinely surprised to be getting a tip. ratings tie in a little in how much of the ride they get and if they get to stay an uber driver. It's actually a very hazy subject as there was a point tips weren't allowed and if anything even slightly hinted as give me more money happened they would immediately be removed from being a driver if you commented on the ride saying they did so.

The $14-$17 is per car, which fits up to four people.

prices just went up so I would expect more like $22-25 for that trip now but I haven't done it to know if that's accurate. What I do know is I used to get to some WDW destinations and back home for under $8 per trip and now all rides are $11-13 that I take. It was only the monorail resorts and MK that used to cost me above $10.

Friends just used Uber in July and it was about $25 for 4 people from RPR to AKV. Tips are not calculated in the app.

Odd, I just did an estimate in the Uber app for Boardwalk to Universal to see how much it had gone up and I got $13.91.

I mean...I suppose you could, but I never have. It's my understanding that you don't have to tip your Uber driver because they're making a fair price off the ride as it is. Sort of like how you don't tip servers in other countries because their salary isn't based on tips like it is in the US. It's designed to be a cashless experience, though.

One needs to spend only a few minutes on some of the Uber Orlando discussion boards (drivers, predominantly) to see how Uber works. Tipping in Orlando is ABSOLUTELY needed. Orlando pays the drivers one of the absolutely lowest pay scales in the country (saturation of the market might be only one of the factors at play here). And the fact that Uber heavily markets the fact that tips are not necessary (to corporate's advantage, with little regard for the divers) really hurts these drivers, badly. It is extraordinarily difficult for an Orlando Uber driver to make even minimum wage.

In addition, and I hesitate to say this (and it is not heavily important), if you do not tip, you will receive less than 5 starts rating (passengers are rated, as well) - I hate saying that because I have only ran across a few "mean" drivers on the boards (most are nice) and truly the majority are not vengeful or *expecting* a tip. Needless to say that 5-star passengers will get immediate service :)

Please consider tipping your drivers... even a dollar or two can make your driver stay at or above minimum wage.

I know this is an old post, but I just saw it when this thread was revived, and need to address a few things:
  1. Fares have not increased since I signed up 6 mos. ago. The only change was to the minimum fare, which went up $0.25. That has no affect on fares higher than the minimum.
  2. Drivers are allowed to suggest tips. It's most often done with a sign in the car. That right was established in the settlement of a class action suit, which also prohibited Uber from saying fares include tips (which they've pushed the limits on even after the settlement.)
  3. Ratings do not affect how much a driver gets to keep. It's either 75% or 80% of the base, time and mileage portions, depending on which rate was in effect at the time they signed up, and the class of vehicle. (The Booking Fee goes 100% to the company.)
  4. Drivers can be suspended or deactivated for low ratings. (The threshold is higher than you might think; anything less than a 5 is considered a bad rating.)
  5. There may also be at times "incentives" that are offered selectively to drivers based on their rating and the amount of business they do. I've seen talk that Uber may also give preference to higher rated drivers when matching rides, but I don't know whether that's true or not.

Thanks for the updates, most of my uber knowledge was from when it was a barely known thing and riding around nyc.

Fares are not the same anymore though. There was places around WDW property I could get to for as little as $6 and not I can't go on or off from property without a minimum cost of $11. So if it wasn't an increase in fares, they adjusted something else.. since your saying that shouldn't have happened time to find out why I was overcharged the last few months.
