Hi! My husband and I are taking an adults only trip in January. We have a 7:45 reservation at The Wave on January 7th. This is the morning of the marathon. I was told that Disney buses would be the best mode of transportation since there will be road closures and such. What is the best way to get to the Contemporary by our reservation time on that day? Bus, Minnie Van, Uber? Also, if bus, what is the best route to take? Magic Kingdom then walk/monrail? What time do busses start running?

I'm not up on what the road closures are, but post where you're coming from and I'm sure someone can help.

We took the bus from Old Key West to MK on marathon day. We left our room at about 7am. Just missed a bus, so had to wait a bit for another one. We got on an extremely crowded bus - all seats filled, and the aisle jammed with people. It took us over an hour to get to the park, with the bus at a stand still for awhile. Look up "claustrophobia" in the dictionary and you will see a photo of that bus.

Truthfully? Skip the Wave, and take a nice relaxing boat ride from your resort over to Olivia's and have their wonderful breakfast!

If you are not interested in the marathon then I strongly suggest harambe's suggestion. Getting to the contemporary while difficult can be done but pack your patience if you decide to do it.

Are you sure that's possible? Aren't he Port Orleans boats completely separate from the OKW and SSR boats, requiring a transfer at Disney Springs? For that matter, do the boats start that early?

Yes POFQ only shares with POR (during the day) & the boats don't start until 9:30ish . As of right now I don't believe Minnie vans are available at POFQ.

I love the Wave, but I’d skip it that day.

If you must do it, take the first bus to MK and make your way over. You’ll likely be slowed and stopped both on the bus and by foot. So pack your patience!!

I've run a bunch of WDW half marathons and marathons. Almost all of the January courses go right in front of the Contemporary Resort, so traffic is limited to one direction at a time and is very delayed. I would really suggest not going to the Wave that morning. If you do go, I would think Minnie Van would be the most reliable way (assuming they aren't sold out that morning!) because they would be aware of the best routes.

Oh - sorry! I didn't know that the boats are separate. If that's the case, then you can pick somewhere else for breakfast, but my suggestion of skipping the Wave still stands.

Ok, thank you all for your suggestions. I decided to change the ADR for The Wave to our departure day on the 11th at 7:45 am. We don't leave for the airport until 2 and were planning to take a quick spin in MK that morning so it should work out well. We REALLY want to try it, but it seems it is going to be a cluster. on marathon day. We will just get breakfast at our resort on the 7th so we don't have to rush.
