Getting the buildings we request

I have read that the very best chance of getting your request as which area you want to stay at in your hotel is getting their first thing in the morning and check in early. Well we won't be able to get there early. So if by chance we do not get even remotely close to what we requested that afternoon what do you think my chances might be if I arose bright and early the next morning and checked on getting a different room as to where we requested? Anyone else done this with any luck?

twice I was assigned a room I thought I would not like....

Both times they said a different room would be available the next day....both times I wound up keeping my room

I have done this twice.

The first time was our very first stay. We were at the Beach Club and requested a non-smoking room with a full balcony not overlooking the lower roof area. We got smoking, standing room only balcony overlooking the ugly roof. We could have lived with everything except the smoke. They couldn't move us that night but were able to get a room that was perfect for us the next day.

The second time was at POFQ. I had reserved a king-bed room but for some reason the information downloaded from CRO as a water-view room. I had my paperwork to show that showed the correct information and they got us moved the next day to another wonderful room.

It won't always work because it's based on availability of rooms of course but it doesn't hurt to try.

There probably wouldn't be any issue in doing this, and as posters said above, it may work to your benefit.

Do keep in mind that if you have any special requests on file, once your reservation downloads to the resort (about ten days out), they may choose to pre-assign you a room that meets your requests, making check-in time somewhat less relevant. I wouldn't count your chances as being significantly lower on receiving your requests just because of a later check-in.

This is all based upon availability, however. Very seldom are requests guaranteed.

Actually, it would depend on how specific your requests are. If you only want a building but you don't care what floor you are on or what your view is, then things should be fine.

The difficult thing for Disney to do is to get a request for Building #2, third floor only, absolutely no view of the parking lot, close to the elevator, on a corner (impossible) and with no neighbors on either side, then that person is not going to be happy when they check in.

I really wanted a king bed at Pop Century so that was the only thing I requested. I got that request but in the 50s building, first floor very near the pool. I thought I would hate it. My husband even groaned when he saw how close we were to the pool. I ended up really liking it.

So, the simpler, the better.

The last couple of trips we have checked in late - last year around 11 pm and this year about 9 pm. Both times we got what we requested.

If by some chance you get a room that is truly not satisfactory (e.g. not just not in the building you requested), don't wait until the next day to request a move.

I need a room with a king bed (well, really just one bed, size doesn't matter) at the Value resorts because I need room to get an ECV in and out - and the bed in the two-doubles rooms is too close to the door... but I digress.

I checked into Pop Century the day before Free Dining ended in 2006; the CM was unable to find me a king room, and indicated that one would not be available at all. I called the Front Desk* once I was again sure that I would have trouble getting in and out of my assigned room.

When I woke up, there was a message on my phone that the room type I needed was available later that day.

*Yeah, yeah, I know - I didn't really talk to anyone at the Front Desk, it was the Central Call Office...
