Getting stuff back home

Hey everyone,

So, I am going to WDW in June. We are from California so obviously, we are flying to Orlando. My question is, how do I get the stuff that I purchase there home? I am planning on doing some strategic packing and to try to only take a carry-on.
Does WDW have a way for you to ship your stuff back home? Even if they do, would it be worth it to pay to have it shipped or just pay the extra free to have checked luggage?
Thanks,
Carissa

If you order off the shop Disney parks app they usually have free shipping if you spend $75 dollars or more. We did this one year when we wanted to buy garden stones from the flower and garden festival. You can scan the barcode of the item you want in the store and if it's available on the app it will pull up for you to order. This past trip I bought a clock that looks like cogsworth from the new live action beauty and the beast. It was too large to bring back on the plane so they shipped it home for me. They charged me $17 for shipping, but it was a large box. It also beat me home my 2 days!

Depending on what you buy, I would personally go to a local USPS and ship it in a priority box since it's a flat rate no matter the weight.

You can have Disney ship it to you house but I believe it's a high cost per item. On luggage it would depend on your airline on the price.

For big items or artwork, I would just let Disney ship it

I agree with the shop parks app! If the items you want are displayed in the app, it is effortless. Sometimes you can even get lucky and discover free shipping on no minimum (I check everyday if I have something I want in mind). The app also takes Disney gift cards and will recognize any type of Disney discount like AP, DVC, or Disney Visa. The shipping is also great! Each box is packaged with care. I ordered a bunch of stuff and the most delicate item was wrapped in tissue, placed in a box, and then sealed and packed with other items, air pockets, and more tissue. Definitely the safest way to go!

Other than the suggestion of using the app, if you are still thinking about buying things at the stores and having Disney ship it, here are the prices. They don't charge by weight but by total
Up to $50.00 - price of item
$9.95 - shipping price

$50.01 - $75.00
$14.95

$75.01 - 100.00
$19.95

$100.01 - $150.00
$24.95

$150.01 - $250.00
$29.95

$250.01 - $500.00
$34.95

$500.01 - $1000.00
$39.95
keep in mind that if you are buying from several WDW operated stores you can save the receipts and ship it all together from one store, so as to not pay $10 on a single item. For example you buy from the Emporium at MK then go to Disney Springs and get something from World of Disney, just keep your items with the receipts and they can ship it all together.

If you do decide to ship things home, get a box from the gift shop earlier in your trip rather than later. The resort gift shops hold onto their packing boxes and let you use them to ship items home. If it is all WDW merchandise then you show the receipts and ship according to the rates above. If you have other personal items you'd like to ship then you have to ship and pay for another carrier like UPS.

As the PP indicated, use the resort gift shop to ship everything back home. Last October I was staying at the Contemporary and was going to use the UPS services with the Convention Center. They recommended that I use the gift shop if everything I had purchased was from WDW. Actually it was much cheaper and easier to use the gift shop to send the items back.

I didn't have to ask for any specific box to ship my items home. They basically looked at each of my receipts and made sure that I had purchased all of the items from WDW. I had the AP glass from Epcot F&W, but they wouldn't ship it since it was not bought and did not have a receipt. I filled out some paperwork and paid for the shipping. Then the gift shop took all of my items and packaged everything up for me and shipped it. It was pretty simple process, but can be long depending on how much you are shipping back home.

The good thing about using the gift shop, to send things back home, is that if anything is damaged during shipping, they will replace it. It is basically as if you had bought items from one of the on property stores and had it mailed directly back home from there. I did that as well.

I personally have a dufflebag like suitcase which folds up nicely to fit into another bag and is there if I need another bag to get things home.

Either the app or pay Disney to ship it. If you pack & carry it's on you if it arrives in less than new condition, if Disney ships and something happens they'll make it good.

We also pack an extra duffle bag in our luggage so if we need more room we will have it. However, when we have purchased larger or fragile items we have always had the items shipped directly from the gift shop to our homes. I don't remember it being very expensive to do this.

This!! We always pack light to get there, but pack a collapsable duffle in our luggage. Then, we can take what we buy home unless like PP said, it is fragile.

I just bring whatever it is an a Disney Parks shopping bag. They are everywhere at MCO! Last week I couldn't fit an item in my backpack, so I just brought it in the plastic bag. It was already in a box with foam packing though. They gave me a paper bag with it, but it was afraid that would tear so I got a plastic one at the resort gift shop. (It was a Nautilus drinking vessel from Trader Sams - I love it!)

June - hotter than hell month, and we pack extra clothing so we can change out of sweaty clothes mid-day. Also, it rains and we like to have an extra pair or two of shoes to switch around when one gets wet to avoid blisters. How many days are you staying? Are you planning on doing laundry?

If you want more room in your luggage, pack for three days, bring clothes you can rinse in the room? And use those packing bags for travel that ziploc manufactures. I use those when we travel, and it saves a ton of room.

Are you staying onsite at a Disney owned resort? If so you could check an empty suitcase and have it delivered to your room if you take DME.

Yulilin has a shipping table in post #5 which I've also seen on allears, but I think the shipping costs have gone down. Shipping costs are based on the total amount of the purchase, but last October on three different purchases of $101, $144, and $175 each time we were charged $17.95 for shipping. However, since we were shipping out of state, we were not charged sales tax so that helped to offset the shipping cost in each case. The best, obviously, was the $175 purchase because tax would have added an additional $11.50 to the $175, so it cost just $6.50 more than that to have Disney pack and ship our purchase. I will also have Disney ship anything fragile or breakable since they will replace anything that is damaged.

If we are flying - I only ship from the stores now.
So worth avoiding the hassle of packing it and keeping under 50 pounds...etc...
We chalk it up to being part of the cost of going to WDW...

We are staying for 7 days and 6 nights. With dinner plans at Jiko and California Grill. We will be changing naturally for those things and that is even more reason to save space in my luggage. I will not only be packing for the parks but also for dinners. Thanks for your reply!

Thanks for your input everyone! I didn't realize that it was so reasonable to get the stuff back home. I love the app, but there is a certain excitement about picking something up there and knowing that you purchased it there. If the shipping rates above are correct (there is nothing to make me think otherwise), I am going to have everything shipped home. I am going to try to pack light. I suck at it, but we shall see how it goes.

With all the Disney Love,
Carissa
