Getting Skisney for Disney May 2013 PTR 4/11: Day 1 Plan

I can't lose weight when my husband's home.

I love him more than anything in this world and my favorite days of the week are when he's off of work.

But he makes me larger.

I cook when he's home...and ya'll, I am a pretty good cook. Part of the reason we don't eat out much (fast food maybe once a week and sit-down once a week) besides the fact that we are saving for Disney, is that I can cook pretty much anything I like at a restaurant at home (except steak...I don't have steak down yet).

What's not fair is that he is still pretty fit (and handsome:lovestruc) and I don't think I've ever weighed less than him (and I used to be a size 6/8) because he was REALLY skinny when we started dating.

He only worked one full day last week so of course I didn't lose. He has worked every day so far this week and I'm already down 2 lbs. So there you go. If I want to lose weight, I have to send my husband away.:sad2:

Maybe you could try some new FABULOUS low cal recipes-? I love reading through women's health, men's health, real simple, runners world etc... Magazines have some great healthy recipes that taste good! You could try introducing one at a time between your usual meals to start. Who knows? It could be a winner!
Our favorite super-tasty go-to it tilapia baked in parchment paper in the over accompanied by roasted broccoli- YUM O!!!!

I agree with this. I wouldn't say I LOVE to cook, but we don't ever eat out. Maybe 1-2 times a month and the occassional box o' tacos from Taco Bell :sad2: (blush) I know it's trash, but the kids love it, it's quick, calorie wise a soft taco is not bad, and it's SUPER cheap! My whole family can eat 3 tacos each for $10.99 ;)

BUT, since I do cook a lot. (I do freezer meals, since I work a crap ton outside the home, we use our crockpot a lot) and I look up recipes on sparkrecipes.com and they are almost always a hit and healthy. Another thing I did that helped me lose about 30 pounds a couple years ago is just start using low fat or fat free sour cream, cheese, milk, etc. when I cook (and in general) and also to keep fruit and low fat cottage cheese, fat free turkey slices (organic) etc. around all the time for snacks. It was way easier to lighten up the house than I thought.

With all that said - I have a hard time not when DH is home but when *I* am at home! When I work from home, I graze all day. I do so much better during the week when I have my schedule and plan my meals and take them with me to work, etc.

I can't wait for my butt to look so good in my jeans. I am going to kickboxing tonight at 5. I looked up the calories I would burn with 60 minutes of kickboxing - 800-900 for an hour!!! THAT is WHACK! That's like how many calories I EAT in a day! Since DH is out of town the rest of the week, I can take the kids out (for cheap) tonight after kickboxing. Hmmm....

Hmmmm not much but something. Still can't get that exercise thing going but at least I put on my shoes to break them in. lol Oh well......

:rotfl2: I feel you pain.
My problem is I'm not a good cook, and DH loves to eat. And, NOT healthy baked chicken and steamed veggies. I can make that. Nope, he loves pasta, and mexican and chinese. And I don't know how to make those things "healthy." When I make them, I use every processed cheat you can buy. And none of that is very good for you. Blah.

I didn't get a chance to post yesterday, but....

(That's total pounds, not just this week).
Slow going, but I'm moving in the right direction!

Could someone explain why I can post new threads and add color text, but when I'm replying, I lose that option??? (I know I used color just a couple days ago on my own TR, but back here again and it doesn't work??? What gives??)

Love the remark "I have to lose my husband to lose weight"!!!!
My DH is the same when eating mexican, pasta, and lots of cheese. I just make them as healthy as possible. We have finally gotten rid of almost all processed foods. It really doesn't take any longer to make things from scratch and oh so much better for you. Start small like make your own taco seasoning.

Good luck to you on your healthy adventure.

I was hoping to crack the 20 pound mark this week but I am going to be happy with 18.2!! Going to try adding some new exercises to my routine next week to see if I can kick start. I can honestly say that this is the first week that I have felt hungry.

Hope everyone is planning their trips and enjoying a nice week!

In the spirit of Disney, I am going to call that... FANTASMIC!!:rotfl: You have got this steady weight loss thing DOWN!! Good job. And I hope those hunger pains dissolve quick, fast and in a hurry.

Looks like you've got some nice meals planned. I'm going to miss that on our trip, but I just don't feel like we have the time for it. Guess I'll have to live vicariously through yours (and others) trip reports. lol.
I totally understand about Boma. I love that restaurant. Mmmmmmm....

I hope the Science project went well. :teacher: Emily had a Geometry project to finish this evening and I had to help a little with that also. She chose something she "thought" would be simple and it ended up being much more complicated than she anticipated. lol. But, with some ingenuity and an extra pair of hands she got it done. Don't you just love school?? ;)
Well, DD got a 100 on her project in science class but didn't place at all in the fair. All I was concerned about was the grade but she had her sights set higher:confused3 Isn't how that usually goes...you start something you think will be uncomplicated and don't find out 'til your knee-deep in it that it's not so simple. I'm sorry you can't indulge in sit-down meals on your trip. Do you at least have some CS that you can look forward to? I swear, Sunshine Seasons is one of my most anticipated meals of the entire trip...since 2006!!
Looks like a terrific set of ADRs!! For CS in MK, we love Columbia Harbour House. For DHS, we love Backlot Express, and for AK, we LOVE LOVE LOVE Flame Tree BBQ!

We follow the same kind of touring "plan" that you do! I love having dinner early so we can do more fun stuff!
I love Backlot Express, too. And for some reason, we ALWAYS wind up at Cosmic Ray's at MK. I've only done CHH once, so I need to try it again. And Flame Tree is the only CS we've done at AK. It always smells good, that's for sure!!
If you can try to go to Saana. We went on our last trip and it was wonderful. Great food and the animals are right outside the huge picture windows. I would highly recommend it to anyone. It really is the best kept seecret of all the restaurants.

Hope everyone had a great weekend Yeah GO RAVENS!!! I didn't do too badly on the snack food. How about you? Keep on swimming!

Denise
Glad your Ravens won. Thank you for the tip...I am thisclose to booking it. I'm glad you made it successfully through the Super Bowl. It was right down the road from us...my dad came over and brought wings (on the bone so I skipped that) and deviled eggs, my sworn enemy. I made sausage dip for the crew and I had some homemade pesto and goat cheese for my snack. So, not the lowest fat food in the world, but definitely healthy.

My husband is a dentist. His dad was also a dentist. He insists on having coke classic and sugar cereal on hand- yikes!!!! He's such a healthy eater- really we all are, but he can indulge in those little vices (apparently he was deprived as a child- lol!!), whereas for me I eat/drink the junk when I really shouldn't. My kids are better at it then I am! I would never deprive my hard-working otherwise healthy hubs, but I TOTALLY get where you are all coming from!

Now- does anybody else out there have an issue with self-sabotage? I will be killing it with eating and working out, then just totally blow it. Anyone else?

LOL on needing to lose your husband to lose weight. I am the same way if everyone stays away, but when people are in the house, I eat. I do try to do the above though...at least by being the one who cooks you can control it a bit and just start to cut down to healthier meals each week.

Awesome numbers!! You will get to that 20 before you know it!

Sorry about not making the science fair, but the 100 is great! I love Sunshine Seasons too! CHH is our fave at MK, and I love Flame Tree! HS is the one park that I am not crazy about the CS. Actually, I'm not really crazy about the food in general there. I do love Brown Derby, but 50s and Sci-fi, which are both on our list this year are definitely for the experience and not the food.

Superbowl itself didn't do me in...it's the aftermath! We had about 30 people over for a party that day, and while we had lots of yummy non-diet foods, I was busy socializing and hosting and I really didn't go overboard. But the leftovers...oh boy. I have been weighing myself all week and I'm fluctuating within a pound of Monday morning, but I'm sure not going to lose anything this week. I need the stuff out!

Are you doing DDxP or are you paying out of pocket? I know RomeGal is thinking about going OOP. Your ADR list is so much like mine!!

So I am all caught up and so excited to join in on your PTR!!! We went 3 years ago during Flower and Garden festival and it was AMAZING!!! We had no idea it was going on until we got there. I had never heard of it:( I cannot wait to go during that time again.
Welcome!! I love FG Festival. How do they manage to even make the whole park SMELL like flowers?:flower3:
I have decided Tuesdays will be my official weigh day (but I am an obsessed every day weigh myself kind of girl). So, today I am T - 0. Much better than the T +5. I had a regular work out with my trainer last night and my back didn't bother me much. :cool1: I also started back on Paleo. I foolishly thought that I could add dairy and grains back in, but after 2 months of me feeling  I decided Paleo it is. I feel really good doing it. So, back to grass fed meat (eggs are from hens that are grass fed too, no grain fed chickens for me), no grains, no legumes, no dairy (well, maybe some ghee or organic butter occassionally). Lots and lots of veggies. Not a ton of fruit. Mostly veggies with meat. Yesterday was my first 100% Paleo day. I made venison with mashed butternut squash. Today is an open house at the high school, so no work out.
I have heard a lot about the Paleo...I just don't think I could do it and be happy. I NEED pasta and bread. I can do without most processed foods easily and fried foods and most sweets (I can't even tell you the last time I had ice cream) and we are making the switch to whole grain pasta. Maybe the Mediterranean diet is more for me? Or portion control...that would work too:lmao:. BTW...way to get that +5 off of your T!!!
Yay!!! I did go "full speed ahead" post- vacation, and now I AM T -1!!!
T -1
Finally! This week's challenges: working some (I'll pack lunch and snacks), Friday we'll fly to NYC ( a friend who is an understudy just scored the lead in Mamma Mia on Broadway!!), and a party Saturday at Ruth's Chris. So: I will do an appetizer as my meal at RC with a salad- probably the tuna or some seafood, and in NYC, I'll do one "yummy" and try to double-up workouts before and after. I'll work put with my trainer 4 times this week and I like to throw in some cardio a few times per week.
Having this group is helping my accountability so much, but it's more-so fueling my motivation! What an inspiring group!
Keep up the GREAT work!!!
Oh! And the Food and wine festival: YUUUMMM!!! We did it 2011 with kids and again in 2012- NO KIDS! (mamma got to check out the "beverage" aspect of the festival---WHICH IS AWESOME!!!)

Wow, you made it through the wedding (weeding?:lmao:) with a minus!! That is great! And you are so busy...doesn't it make such a difference if you plan your meals in advance. I remember doing that that time I lost 30 lbs. I'm glad this is helping you...that's what it's here for. I love having something to kind of pull me back on track instead of thinking "Aww, screw it!" when I mess up.

I can't tell you how many times I've used Denisea's mantra, "Keep on Swimming" this week!

We are doing DDxP, it's a lot of food but the opportunity for such great restaurants is just too good to let it go by!

Just updated the roll call post and WOW-WEE there were a lot of losses this week!! Keep it up, folks!!

I also still have a quandary about what to do about tickets. Since I am still thinking we will go Oop for the meals, I am thing we will just order them with the secret link discount t from undercover tourist. Now - to decide if we need to park hop. I really think, since we are there for 8 days, PH are not necessary. We have a full day in each pro, 2 each in Epcot and MK and another 7th day to return to our favorite, as well as a day off for pool and DTD.

Great Job Keep it going!

Can't wait till its time for ADR's Anyone have any advise on the dessert party? Can we watch the parade then go up for the desserts and fireworks?

Thanks

I love this blog. I just recently came across this. During weight loss we all need encouragement! We have a trip to Disney in April and it has been a year and a half since we have been. Way too way between trips and I am starting to get the shakes. I started a workout program that is 12 weeks. It is on bodybuilding.com from Jamie Eason Live Fit Trainer. I usually eat clean and work out about 6 days a week, but weight has slipped up on me. I starting counting calories and writing everything down that I eat. So far already down -11.8 pounds. I love taking pictures with my family in Disney and it would be great to look my pics and say is that really me? (Not because I've gained but because I have lost) Hats off to everyone working on it and be assured that I am sore and hungry too! You're not alone!
Tracy

Some really great losses this week! Congrats everyone!
I'm gonna try adding P90X next week (not every day, just every other) and hopefully I will drop a little faster. The going is feeling too slow for me. lol. I'm afraid I'll get discouraged and quit. :sad2:

Matkensgirl. Oh yeah, we're definitely looking forward to a few god CS meals. I'm personally looking forward to Backlot Express at DHS. I had a really good sandwich last time (some sort of grilled veggie sandwich that was YUM). We'll share a few meals from different countries at Epcot so we can try some different options there. I'm sure that will be our "big" eating day. We'll probably do Wolfgang Puck Express (I think that's the name) at Downtown Disney. Everyone loved that on our last trip. Beyond that?? I'm not sure at this point.

I'm sure we'll do some eating at our campsite/in our hotel room, but not sure how much just yet. We'll see how the budget plays out. If I do drop a good amount of weight by then, I may try to stick to the diet through the trip so that I'm not tempted to fall of the bandwagon afterward. If all goes well, I'll be entering the nursing program this fall and I would love to feel fit and full of energy when I hit that point. :thumbsup2

Keep up the good work, everyone!!!
