Hi All,

Need some words of encouragment, we're leaving sat and our dd 20 months is still feverish (and runny nose and cough). She's been sick since Fri night and went to the doc yesterday. They said it's viral and she should be OK in a day or two. Her big sis had it the week before and it took about 5 days but I'm getting really, really, reallly NERVOUS!! This and a blizzard were my two fears about going in JAN. I'm trying to keep positive, help! :(

I have taken many a kid many a time with antibiotics and runny noses sick, ear infections and always within a day of arriving they are cured! So go! There are doctors and such in florida! Pixie Dust do you stuff- group hug coming your way from my gang! I'm sure she'll do fine!:grouphug: Also if your still worried make a last minute trip back to the docs the last day before you leave sometime an ear infection pops up-

I worked myself into a frenzy in October right before our cruise because I'd read horror stories of people who were turned away because they were sick. I went to Wal Mart and bought one of every OTC medicine known to man. Most of it is still cluttering my bathroom counter, unopened. :p Try not to worry. You still have several days, so she should be on the upswing by then. Be sure to take an afternoon break if you need it.

Lots of Pixie Dust from me and Josh that your little one will be completely well before your trip! I know it can be a huge concern, but with all the support and Pixie Dust here, I'm sure she'll be just fine by the time you get ready to leave!! Have a WONDERFUL time! Wish I could go with you!!!

Did they check her ears??? If she's not well, you might want to take her back on Fri just to check her again.

Wampy2, she should be fine by Friday. Are you staying onsite? If so, at check in you might want to get the telephone numbers of the doctors that make resort calls. That might ease any fears that you have. Also, it is a good idea that another poster offered to schedule a doctor's visit, if you can, for Friday to make sure there is no ear infection.

Otherwise, just enjoy the trip.

I've lost track of the number of times we've been at WDW with at least one dd on antibiotics. Not to mention the one morning we got up at 4AM to discover my one dd had a fever of 102. Pumped her full of Motrin, cool bath, and got in the car. By the time we got to the airport the fever was gone, and never returned.

I agree, get her ears checked on Friday. Many times those "viral" illnesses develop into ear infections.

Good luck and have a great trip!

Sound like what my three year old two weeks ago. Viral infection that had a fever lasting 5 days with cough and runny nose. She felt a whole bunch better after the fever broke and the runny nose and cough lasted another week, but she did not feel bad with just that. Now my DH and I have head colds and we are also leaving on Saturday!!! We're hoping the FL warmth helps clear our heads.

Have a great trip and I hope your DD is feeling good by Saturday!

I hope she is feeling better...

I went plenty of times as a young child with minor infections, colds etc. And my neices both came down with flu last time they were there and their mom just took them to the doctors and gave them their medication and they are both fine now. One of them is 15 months.

But you should take her to the doctor one more time before you go. Ask your doctor what he/she thinks. Also, check her ears. Ear infections often go undetected.

My DD, 3, got the flu two weeks before Christmas. We took her to see the pediatrician and she prescribed Tamiflu for the entire family. It shortens the duration and lessens the severity of the illness. I think there are quite a few drugs out there that do the same thing. If you and the rest of your family haven't been sick you may want to ask the doc about it. It worked for me when I caught the flu a week and a half after my daughter.

It is very chancy and iffy to take an ill child on board an airplane.

Nasal and ear congestion can result in a severe earache. And you don't know how much decongestant syrup or pills you can safely give and/or whether what you can give will be enough.

Aside from that, if the child is well bundled up in layers with shielding of nose and mouth from direct breezes she should not have problems. She will need to be unbundled a lot once inside buildings so as not to sweat.

Had an earache from flying with a cold once, it happened during descent. Ain't fun, even for a grown up.

on the other hand I took a child with doc instructions who had an ear infection and she did great - each child is different check with your doc and I strongly recommend a quick last minute check-up on Friday:)

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes. She woke up today (Wed) still with a fever so back to the doctor in the snow storm. Her doc said he could hear it in her lungs now and it could be becoming broncitious (sp?). So now we've got an antibodic (augmentin) and hoping she's more herself tomorrow.

Thanks to all for your help!

;)
