Getting out of pin trading...need help

Hi,
I have been a stranger lately on the boards. Things have been very buzy. My husband and I are in the process of adopting a child and I have decided to sell alot of my pin traders and possibley some of my collection to help with the finances. I wonder if anybody has any suggestions on how I can market them easily. I would be selling at face valve or less. It is suggested to sell in groups? I was looking at ebay but I am unable to accept credit card payments and didn't know if people would bid with someone who would only accept money orders. Any ideas will be helpfull. Also, anyone interested in purchasing some pins see my pinpics for my stock and email me an offer. This has been a hard decission because I love to trade. But for now I feel the money will be better used getting ready for the little one.

You could try the DIS auction site... Just follow the link in my signiture... As for ebay. I buy pins from people who do not take credit cards. Just make sure you put that in the description. I would look at what other pins like yours have sold for and maybe group some of the not so good traders together. Good luck with the adoption.

I have quite a few friends who sell on Ebay, pins, and other stuff, and they don't have CC and do just fine...and they don't have to share their money w/ paypal or anyone else..

Connie I would say go for ebay... As far as Disauctions go well I just dont see any action there on the pin circuit anyway (Sorry Nat)

I sell a ton of stuff on ebay and I use paypal they will allow you to accept credit card payments from anybody and now they are owned by Ebay so its all linked.

If you open a paypal account they will charge you 2.9% + $.30 of the total you collect so lets say you sell a pin for $10.00 plus $2.00 shipping they paypal you $12.00 paypal will take $.35 plus $.30 for a total of $.65 you get $11.35.

I just add the average paypal cost into my auction allong with the ebay fees.

Yes there are Ebay fees, but they allow you to get you pins in front of millions of people including Japanese and UK traders.

Dont sell your pins at cost when you can get two to six times what they are worth.

And no the E in Ebay does not stand for Ed.

Well, Connie, sorry to see you go away for awhile (remember when we were small fish together during a pin event) but it is a good cause. One other idea is to sell your extra pins on on the dizpins sale board. You wouldn't even have to sell at cost there if you don't want to. Good Luck and pixie dusted best wishes!

If you open a regular PayPal account, there are no fees at all or at least I haven't been charged for any of my sales. I don't have a business account, just a regular one, which means I can't accept credit cards.

There are eBay fees.

I attend 1-3 pin meets a month in the Chicago area. A friend of mine
who was getting married decided to sell most of her pins. She was sucessful
by attending only a few pin meets. As long as she made it clear she was only selling and not trading everyone was happy. You might get more by selling certain hard to find pins on e-bay. However if you know some people who trade pins and explain your situation then your only overhead would be the gas to get to a pin meet. No trips to the post office, packing, and no lost pins in the mail. You might want to price your pins beforehand.
Tomart's price guide or checking out e-bay will give you a good ball park as far as what your pins are worth. Good Luck!

Connie - Thanks for asking this question. I've been debating the same questions for several months now that my job is likely to disappear and our income to drop 40% shortly! We also have a son entering college in one year so pin spending stopped awhile back.

What I did decide to do was to sell the extra 100 pin collections (Years of Magic etc.) on eBay as well as my "Wet Paint" and a few other more valuable pins singly there. Then I'll group all those traders I've accumulated in lots of 30 or 50 and sell them.

I've had several months to think about all this so it doesn't bother me as much as it did at first. I've been checking eBay periodically to see what the going prices for certain pins are and while I know getting them isn't guaranteed I do know what the general range of sale prices are.

I agree with the advice on PayPal and the protection it offers is helpful too. I'll also use DizPins if a pin doesn't sell on eBay.

Congrats on the adoption! It took us 9 years of trying and treatment to get our wonderful son and he was worth every long year!
