Welcome, Welcome, Welcome! It's time to get this party started :woohoo::cheer2::cheer2: The Trip Report is starting!!!

Saturday November 6th, 2010

We were up and at em early, I got ready right away and so did mom we left around 9am and got Dunkin Donuts for some breakfast foods then went down to the LOOP shopping center where we stopped in CJ Banks as they were having a 40% off sale that mom wanted to check out prior to leaving for the cruise/vacation. I found a nice necklace and mom found a nice sweater and with our purchases made we headed back home to relax since the plan was to leave around 1pm or so.

We watched the special TLC ran on the Oasis of the Seas and then the Travel Channel special for Disney Cruise Line. By the time the Disney Special was over it was about Noon and we couldn't stand it any longer and decided to head out and run a few last minute errands and head out to the port.

The first stop was the Apartment Complex office where we notified them that no one would be home to give permission to enter the apartment and so that if an alar went off that we weren't home so they could go check. We have a great staff here! They gave us a group Bon Voyage and then we went on out and got some gas for the car. Oh yeah forgot to say we decided to take my older car (Eeyore as it is called since it is a eeyore gray) to the Port and put the new car in the garage in case the weather got ugly while we were away the older car could take the "hit" if there were to be hail. Ok OK plus the Ford has a larger trunk and we just wouldn't and couldn't fit all our junk in the new car :lmao:

So with gas in the vehicle, and a quick long stop at Target to try and find a Red Sox ornament that Target's website stated they had but didn't  we were a bit hungry again (we were getting ready for the eating extravaganza that is cruising LOL) so we made a quick stop at Chic Fil A where it was jammed pack but we found a table and had a nice lunch. We were on our way about 2pm and jumped up on the 417 North to the 528 East towards Cocoa Beach.

We did notice for those who choose to drive to the port that it looks like they are building a new Toll Plaza on the way to the Port so its a ways away from being completed but be prepared that costs to drive to the port will be a little higher when it opens.

We made it to Cocoa Beach and Port Canaveral Florida about 3pm we went to the hotel and checked into the Country Inn and Suites but we first spotted the Port area and that 3 ships were in port who normally are there and there was one that we would see later who was in Port but who were there visiting it as a stop on their cruise itinerary not as a departure port!!

The Disney Magic was in Port
1087086954_QrMJG-M.jpg

1087087016_DXoMd-M.jpg

We pulled up to the hotel and parked we went in and checked in and once we had our room keys we took our carry on bags, and our overnight bag out and headed to our room which was on the 1st floor room 124. It was quite large and had a micro/fridge combination in the room, a desk, chair, a wingback chair and 2 double beds.

At first glance the hotel is very clean, spacious, and close to the port , they have a great free breakfast in the morning but that is all I can say. We found the staff to be quite grouchy and the beds were HORRIBLE. I know the night before a cruise or a trip getting sleep is hard but this was different this was "the beds were so bad that we both slept in the chairs as that was more comfortable" BAD!!!! When we tried to discuss this concern with the front desk they blamed us for the problem and basically said so what. We are dealing with this now once home but seriously not a great start to our vacation!

1087087167_ZdsGM-M.jpg

After we got into the room though we sat for a few minutes then about 4:30 we headed over to the port and saw that other cruise ship that was visiting Central Florida it was Costa Americana which we were told was an Italian Cruise Line and we ran into them later in Nassau so they were making the rounds!

We found a new parking area where we can watch the cruise ships leave the port for FREE!!! Freddie Patrick Park! (love google) as I couldn't remember the name when I was writing this a quick search got me the name but what I liked about the park was that it was close to Rusty's our favorite restaurant at the Port and there were public restrooms!

Carnival Dream, Norweigen Cruise Lines, and Disney were the ones who left on Saturday from Port Canveral got a few shots of the Carnival and the Magic! Only 1 more day and we'd be getting onboard the Wonder! :woot:

1087087993_KbTf6-M.jpg

So after the Magic went down the channel and was out of sight we headed to Rusty's Bar and Grill and we had dinner. We had a coupon for being a VIP (free email list member) for Buy 1 Get 1 Free for our entree's so with the entree's, a key lime pie to go and beverages it was $30 for both of us. including tax and tip. Not bad for really good food! I had the Sirloin, and mom had the Pork chop we both agreed both were the best we have had in florida!

We headed back to the hotel and relaxed but well I already explained the horrible beds situation so needless to say no sleep!

Up Next... Embarkation Day Adventures Away!

Great start! sorry you had such bad beds at your hotel.

CAn't wait to read more!! Hurry baaaack, popcorn::

That looks like a better place than Jetty Park and that was awesome!

I really hate to hear that the beds weren't comfortable. We are planning on staying there next spring. Now I wonder if we should change??

Can't wait to read more!:cloud9:

It was really bad! We slept in an office Chair and the Wingback chair and you know how my Mom's back is for the chair to be more comfy then the bed! For what we paid we are not happy at all. The service we got when we tried to discuss it was horrendous.

Day 1 of our Cruise Embarkation Day! It's finally here!!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: We have waited almost a year for this cruise and there was a lot of uncertainty whether or not we'd be able to go or not but today was the day and it was really happening!

We were up really early since we had such a rough night of sleep, we got ready and packed up our things. We headed down to breakfast around 7am well what we thought was 7am but since we forgot to set our clocks back it was 6am so we went back to the room and relaxed until it was about 7:30am for real since we realized we had everything ready and didn't need a ton of time after breakfast to get ready to go.

We had a nice breakfast they had waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, hashbrowns, bagels all the fixings, cereal, fruit, yogurt, juice, milk, coffee and tea. it was a nice breakfast. We had a nice meal and then headed out to get our bags on the curb to wait for the shuttle around 9:30. Our shuttle was at 10am and we had been instructed to be out there no later then 9:45 to make sure we got checked in for the shuttle.

We put all our bags on the curb then moved our car over to the lot where they have cruise guests park for the 4 nights and then about 10:15 they finally had it all loaded and us in the van. We got to the terminal and it was a short wait to get into the security area since there was a full van plus others from other hotels getting dropped off but we made it through in under 5 minutes even with mom having to get wanded for her knee replacement. We went up the escalator and over to fill out our health form which was frustrating since I knew how to fill it out and the cast member was insistent that he had to fill it out. By the time I had to spell my name twice and he got the room number down, I could have been done checking in and sitting down. But it got done and we got in line to check in.

Now in December when we cruised they gave you your boarding number at the bottom of the elevator and escalators but they were giving them as you got to the check in line which of course led to a bottle neck as they only had 1 CM passing them out at the General Line not the Castaway Club line. So we finally got our boarding number which they were kind enough to change from a 5 to a 2 with some pixie dust! :wizard: we got checked in, got our Key to the World Cards and then found some seats.

Mom had rented a scooter from Brevard Medical Equipment they had it in the terminal for her by 11am. I picked it up from the supervisor and the key and brought it over for her. I then took a tour of the terminal and took some photos before we got onboard the Ship for our cruise!

I finished the tour of the terminal which after seeing it in the decorated holiday status last year seemed plain but to be honest I love it the way it is undecorated because its so classic but Disney! Soon after they made the announcement that boarding was to begin, and of course regardless of boarding number everyone had to rush the boarding area and those of us with 1's and 2's had to push our way or drive our way through the crowds. For once I didn't apologize when running anyone over, since it was clearly announced and told to guests when they got their boarding numbers to wait until their number is called to go up.

We boarded the ship and soon we had our photo taken (will scan the photo in later and update with just the photo later) and then they announced our names and we were on VACATION!!!!! Off to Parrot Cay for Lunch were we pigged out on all the delicious food that they had to offer!

We had a nice relaxing lunch but when we finished we headed to Wavebands where we waitlisted for Palo's Dinner but no such luck they were full the last two nights so we kept what we had booked which was on Nassau night.

Up Next... Embarkation Day Part 2.....Home Sweet Home....Some Italian Eye Candy and The Safety Dance...err Safety Drill.

Absolutely fabulous update and I love the pictures!

I'm currently checking out other hotels. It'd be great to have one on the ocean that provided a shuttle. I definitely knew it was bad if Mama slept in a chair!

Another great update, Amy!

Run those rude people over! I don't understand that behaviour!! we run into it every time we fly. We usually get group one because he's a frequent flyer and we have to push our way through 2s, 3s, and even 4s (the last group) to board! I feel like yelling PEOPLE...this ain't SW...you HAVE a seat!!! Look at your blessed boarding pass, it's RIGHT THERE! :headache:
OK Rant over!

Waiting for more!!! popcorn::

I love this picture. It is so nice and clear.

I just wanted to tell you that I am enjoying reading your trip report.

I have spent many many wonderful nights aboard the Disney Wonder. (platinum cruiser soon to doing Disney Cruise number 13 :woohoo: )

We will be onboard the Magic in 29 days, so your trip report just adds to the excitement.

Thank you very much its nice to see others are reading the report. I see lots of views but few responses so not sure if maybe people just don't care for my writing so hearing that your enjoying it means a lot to me! Thank you.

I wish I had 13 cruises behind me but financially it would break our bank! So 1 every 2 years (7+ night cruise) or 1 every year(4 night cruises) is what we can afford. Someday I'll be platinum!

Thanks for the compliment on the photo I appreciate it!

You are very welcome. I am enjoying reading all about your cruise.

I wanted to say that I am at a much different spot in life than you are (read that to mean MUCH older :lmao: ). When you get to be my age you will probably have a ton more cruises also.

That is 12 cruises we have done on Disney, 1 on Carnival, 4 on Royal Caribbean and 1 on Norwegian Cruise Line.

Disney is our absolute favorite cruise line:goodvibes

Can't wait to read more of your report.

Hi Amy! You look really familiar and Im pretty sure we saw you on the cruise! I think we rode the Tram together on Castaway Cay....we were with our little daughter who I believe you spoke to in the elevator...she was GRUMPY! haha. We had a blast!

Yep remember ya! But its ok to be Grumpy...she was just pretending to be one of the Seven Dwarves and he's my favorite character!! LOL ;)

It was a great Cruise!

So now that we were on board, Palo waitlisted but to no avail getting a 2nd dinner there but had we waitlisted for the 1st night we would have been able to but we wanted the last night oh well..... so by the time we got out of the Wavebands club it was just before 1:30 so we headed up to deck 6 to get into our stateroom and explore our view a bit.

We booked a Category 6 Midship right by the elevators. Room 6060 which was easy to remember and when we had to tell beverage servers or the shops our room number it was easy for them to remember! We were Port Side of the ship and this was NEW to us as we previously had sailed on the Starboard side of the ship both times.

They removed the ropes and we parked the scooter in the elevator area out of the way and went over to our room we opened the door and it felt like home. We went on in and this is the view we had:

I have more photos of the room later on in the trip so these are just the first few that I took! Once we checked out the room we sat down and relaxed I took a 20 minute nap and sent texts to facebook before we headed on down to the Promenade Lounge where we met up with some friends from the DISboards with whom we would be participating in the Fish Extender Exchange with (not all pictured though)

1087089098_odpzG-M.jpg

Once we chatted for a while we went our separate ways and explored Deck 3 before heading up to get our lifejackets as it was almost safety dance... I mean safety drill time so we wanted to have enough time to get to our room and get the Life Jackets and then get to our meeting location.

1087089155_tEbD8-M.jpg

We had the dining rotation TAPP so we wanted a few shots of the statue and the sign :)

1087089237_V65bt-M.jpg

Then we ran into Lorenzo from Italy who was absolutely adorable and just wait for it...there is more to this that you have to wait to hear!
1087089297_zFPQd-M.jpg

Then we got ready for the SD...
1087089325_yn2VF-M.jpg

It went by quick and painless and they allowed my mother and I to leave after they checked our room number off and to use the elevators thanks to her scooter and so we were able to head up to the room and change for Dinner. After we changed we headed up to the Sailaway Party and by the time we finally got an elevator and up there the deck was full and we didn't have a great view. We weren't crushed we saw it last time and on Youtube so we were just happy to be in back and take photos of the dock, and a few of our FAVORITE cast members!

1087089385_nbevh-M.jpg

Clayton our Cruise Director  he was fantastic and he does the "vacation dance" aka the Carlton Dance from Fresh Prince of Bel Air :lmao:
1087089507_tdfDN-M.jpg

Then we ran into Christiaan who was the Assistant Cruise Director on our 2006 Cruise. He is now a Cruise Director but was just getting back on the Wonder after his vacation. He will be taking the Wonder through the Panama canal and Alaska and then he will be taking the TA crossing for the Fantasy to get accustomed to the new ships then he will be moving to the Dream in 2012!.

1087089536_YXHUv-M.jpg

We headed down to Deck 4 to wave as we sailed out to sea down the canal, it was fun to wave to everyone on the shore where we usually are and the only thing we were sad about is that no one we knew was there to wave which would have been really magical but most of our friends and family live so far away obviously we know its not a possibility. Makes us appreciate why we make magic for others by waving them off!

Then it was off to Dinner at Triton's where we met our Dining Staff and learned that we were dining alone which was different but somewhat nice no forced conversation.
Our Head Server over the Dining Room was Witt From Tailand who was absolutely amazing. Our Dining Server was Roland from Philipines and our Assistant Dining Server was Jaime from Spain. They were all amazing and far better far far better then our dining team in December we were very pleased!

Now when we left it was quite chilly in Florida and it was so cold in the ship/restuarants so yes that is a sweatshirt I am wearing!

1087089553_4owoF-M.jpg

Our neighbors all week were a Mother/Daughter and the Grandparents who were from the Disboards so we chatted with them and Jaime made the little girl a ketchup Mickey
1087089642_Nyw2K-M.jpg

I had the Beef Tenderloin (keep this in mind as we go along in the Trip Report)
1087089683_U7vYz-M.jpg

I also tried the Lamb Dish (first non airplane lamb meal ever)
1087089716_ecrBZ-M.jpg

Mom and I tried the Lobster Mac and Cheese and it was HORRIBLE. We both had to remove it from our mouths.
1087089748_9QzAu-M.jpg

Mom also had the Beef Tenderloin. See photo above LOL!

After Dinner we went to the Golden Mickeys which I heard was good but I fell asleep during it and was completely wiped out from the lack of sleep the night before and all the activity during the day so mom woke me up at the end and let me drive the scooter back so that I didn't fall over trying to sleep walk the ship LOL... we headed up to the room and unpacked our things more then when we just through things into the cabinets between Safety Dance and Sailaway! Then we crashed for the night.

Up Next... Nassau Day and Palo...and a repeat eye candy.

So after a really long day yesterday it was nice to know that our only plans were to spend the day on the ship explore and find things to enjoy onboard rather then having to find something in Nassau to do. The port really doesn't hold any interest for us and we enjoy the ship so much we didn't feel the need to get off the ship.

We woke up about an hour before we arrived in Nassau and wanted to order breakfast from room service but silly us for wanting a hot breakfast lol....nope continental breakfast only. So we took our time and got ready for the day and watched us pull into Nassau and then headed down to Triton's for breakfast. Mom had the Eggs Benedict which she said was good but the eggs weren't runny enough slightly overcooked but not bad. I had scrambled eggs, toast, a chocolate frosted glazed donut, chocolate milk, orange juice, and sausage with a hashbrown as well. We were so hungry I forgot to photograph the food....sorry.

After breakfast we spent time just relaxing in the restaurant letting it settle then we headed up to Deck 9 and explored the ship a bit. I got my hair braided (will have photos of it later on) for 4 braids it was $8 I gave a $2 tip (not sure what is the appropriate amount but figured it was generous) for a total of $10 our first purchase!! Mom got a smoothie which was around $4 she'd get a few of these as the trip progressed she loves her smoothies! ♥

We sat out and got some sun, chatted with castmembers enjoyed the sun but it wasn't too sunny since Hurricane Tomas wasn't too far away so it was a bit overcast at times. Next to us on the starboard side of the ship was Carnival and on the Port side was the Costa Americana ship that had been in Port Canaveral on Saturday we spoke with a Cast member who thought the ship was from Italy. Cool! It was so much fun interacting with the castmembers who were on board. Always with a smile on, you'd never know that most work 14-16 hours a day if not more at least 6 days a week for at minimum 6 months contract. Not sure i'd be so magically happy if I had those hours.

By now it had been 2 hours since breakfast so I went and got some snacks ok I ate an early lunch before my late lunch, then my early dinner, then dinner, dessert and so on :rofl2: good thing I had dieted before I got onboard as there is always something to eat! :rofl2: Didn't enjoy the tomato and onion salad but the hotdogs weren't bad although the "wheat" buns leave little to be desired but eh it was a cruise hot dog so I liked it LOL.

We did watch a movie on the big screen over the goofy pool, it was either Pinocchio or Peter Pan at least that is what my mother said. It was Peter Pan :rofl2: she has all her Disney Movies confused I told her i'd find Captain Hook and she'd have to walk the Plank :rofl2: We decided after the movie to go back to the room, around 2pm we had to put our fish extender gifts together then I had to deliver them before it was time to get ready for dinner.

We spent about 45 minutes figuring it all out because well....we miss counted and didn't have enough Kids gifts. But we figured out how to make sure it worked out so that each room got something and it would not look like we made a mistake. Finally we labeled them all and I went on my merry way delivering things. I got caught at one room delivering gifts (ooops no surprise there) and another had 3 kids and the gifts didn't fit in the extender so I ran into that rooms "grandparents" and they were kind enough to take them and put them in the room for me :) Yay!!!

I got all but 1 rooms gifts delivered unfortunately that 1 room didn't understand what to do and called the last day and asked me for the list and how to do the exchange they were from Singapore and didn't grasp the concept well enough ahead of time. We got them set up and they were impressed with what they got, and we were blown away by what they gave!

Anywho the FE exchange was a huge success, i have to get all our loot together and take photos then i'll post it here later :)

When I got back from Delivering our gifts we got ready for Dinner. Dinner tonight is at Palo's and then its on to Toy Story the Musical for tonights show!

So we got changed for dinner which was at Palo's tonight I wore one of my new dresses but in all of our excitement we forgot to take a full photo (but mom will attest to me wearing a dress) for those who don't know me I am SO NOT a Dress person but when i cruise I enjoy it because its a novelty.

We got ready to go and we picked up mom's scooter which was parked out in the hall and drove it to the aft elevators down the hallway and then took the elevator up to the restaurant which is far easier then taking the Midship elevators then having to try and get the scooter over the doorway onto the 10th Deck then back to the restaurant. We found that when using doorways the scooter was not as easy to use because they have lips to prevent water getting in just in case of rain etc.

So we got to Palo at 6pm and were sadden to hear that Michael is not onboard right now he had some family issues and will hopefully be back onboard for the Dream or Fantasy. We also notice Pietro wasn't there so we aren't sure if he is just on a break or not with Disney anymore but we had Ali who was not as pleasant or friendly but got the job done. We were seated at a table right along the windows we could watch the sunset in Nassau and see the Atlantis from our seats it was a great view.

1087089844_5Bfkv-M.jpg

They brought over the antipasto plate and we met our server! Lorenzo from Italy!!!! Yes that Lorenzo Mr. Ooohhh La La from the Embarkation Day! He was amazing! We had a great time and while we love LOVE Michael and were sad he wasn't there Lorenzo was just as Amazing and well Mom and I couldn't decide who liked him more! :rofl2:

1087089868_NMkWS-M.jpg

Here is a shot of me with a Better Smile but you can see my Braids!
1087089896_PLnF5-M.jpg

Lorenzo went over what the specials were and we gave our orders, he took down what things we liked, didn't like, etc and off he went....it was like a race to see how many plates of food he could get us to eat and just wait for Dessert!

1087089941_haXRB-M.jpg

We had a pasta dish that we shared that had Sliced prime rib in the sauce as well as prosuitto in it as well.

1087090000_uHFGA-M.jpg

A mushroom risotto type dish we have no idea the name as we didn't order it Lorenzo thought we'd like it and made us try it!

1087090035_bmSGF-M.jpg

Fillet of Beef with Gorgonzola sauce Potatoes Gratin and Vegetables it was to DIE for so tender and the Gorgonzola Sauce is amazing!! Ohhhh how I could almost go for some right now!

1087090136_8rjqx-M.jpg

Mom had the Osso Bucco and she said it was really good but she felt it wasn't as tender as she imagined it would have been but since she doesn't have it usually she wasn't sure what it was supposed to be like so she said the flavor was spot on though!

1087090157_WRmdA-M.jpg

He also brought out a mushroom dish that was a Portobello mushroom, with a polenta under it that was to Die for but we ate it so fast there is no photo of it but it was off the appetizer list!

Between Appetizers and Entrees we did have a palate cleansing course of a Lime Sorbet. It was really tart and did the job it was supposed to do!

Then after our entrees it was Dessert time. Lorenzo didn't even give us a menu, I told him I wanted Panna cotta but was told he had it handled and not to worry.

Well this is what we ended up with:

1087090186_DeiQP-M.jpg

2 Chocolate Souffles and 1 of every other dessert on the menu! Plus a plate that said Happy Birthday :rofl2: He was a bit deflated when we said it wasn't either of our birthday's and not even close! We explained how this cruise was originally booked over my birthday this year but how we changed it to November when I lost my job. He laughed and said "oh I forgot to write unbirthday Silly me" and walked away chuckling!

We ate bits of everything but the gelato as it had banana gelato in it and since I am allergic to Bananas I couldn't have any. It was my fault I forgot to mention my allergy when I got to the restaurant so didn't want to cause a fuss!

I ate the whole Panna cotta poor mom didn't get 1 single bite! but she ate her Souffle and some of the chocolate decadence, and I had some of my souffle as well. It was all very good but the Panna Cotta was to DIE FOR again!

Well after dinner he brought over a free shot of lemon sorbet, vodka and persecco OMG Good!

Yep another panna cotta!!! So with our take away plate and cover and two spoons we went back to the room to drop it off we were too full to eat it and sadly by the time we went to eat it the dessert was not edible and had to be disposed of :( but it was a magical moment for sure!

UP next....Nassau Day Part 2 Toys, and Soul Trains!

After dropping it off we went on downstairs to Deck 4 we tried to get space for the theater show but the handicap viewing area was completely full so the Cast member took us down to Deck 3 backstage and out to the theater through a side door and got us seats on the right side of the theater in the 4th row.

We saw Toy Story the Musical and it was great as ever but we didn't really like being on the side like that as you saw a lot of the behind the scenes action and some of the elements were skewed so we will get to the theater earlier from now on. But the show rocked!

After Toy Story the musical since we exited back onto Deck 3 we headed over to the Cadillac Lounge and listened to some piano songs from Elton John and it was a nice place for a drink and to listen to music but we wanted to see the Illusionist Aldan James and so over to Wavebands to get a seat and he was great some parts were better then others but we did get some good laughs out of it. After the show they had Disco night in the lounge and dancers form the WDT were there to perform some dances for us and they were FANTASTIC! We loved the clubs!

I got up and did the Soul Train mom has it on video :rofl2: I had to ask someone what a Soul Train was though before I understood what to do! :rofl2: It was a blast and it was nice to just let go and enjoy myself! We stayed until about Midnight and then headed up to the room tomorrow is Castaway Cay Day and we wanted to be rested and up early!!

We did take some photos of Route 66 before going up!
