Getting older, thinking about selling our DVC, but

We are selling our one contract right now due to having to upgrade our primary residence. But I hope to add on a smaller contract later. I can't wait for all the new things coming to Hollywood studios.

I originally bought DVC in 1999 for my mom and I. We liked to go to Disney a couple times a year and I thought the 1 bedrooms were so nice. She thought I was nuts until she saw it. She came home and told people on the phone about "our apartment". In 2003 we did an "extra" trip and stayed at CBR. She said "I don't like this one room setup". She passed away in 2005. I booked a trip about a year later, I had planned to take my aunt but she wouldn't go (never has flown or been far from home). So I went solo, kind of as a "last trip" before selling. I still had trips with my friends that we would stay non-DVC. The last night I was walking on the boardwalk after Illuminations, watching the performers, looking at the boats on the lake, hearing the music from the Dance Hall. It hit me that I couldn't give it up! So now I share DVC with my friends or go solo. I don't have a plan to sell, I'll keep it as long as I can physically go (I'm 55). I don't know if I'll make it to 82 but we'll see! It's nice to know that I can sell it if I have to.

Nice story. My wife and I bought in 2003, before we had our daughter. She loves Disney as much as we do. As of yet, we have not considered selling, we enjoy Disney so much. After all these years, we still look forward to going.

I am sure we will start changing the way we use it, and we dont have a ton of points. So, I plan to keep them as long as I can, and hopefully pass them on to my Daughter someday.

I am 62, DH 61, and DD is 24. WE bought in 2001/2002, and still have 500 points split between OKW and BCV. Sold a 100 point contract a few years ago, should have held on to it since the price has gone up!

We made I think 22 trips between 2001 and 2009, but have slowed way down since then. Last trip to WDW was Oct. 2012, went to DL in Oct. 2013 for Halloween. DD has moved to Portland, so our travel has been to see her, or to CA wine country. And next year a European cruise. Thank goodness we can still rent our points!

Just texted DD and told her to save some vacation time for Halloween 2017 at WDW. Hopefully, there will be new things to see by then. And hopefully we will still be able to handle all the walking, we're working on it!

This thread made me wonder if we will want to give up our DVC when we are in our late 70s or early 80s. Hopefully I'll be around to find out. But I could see if the expected changes to DHS occurred when we were thinking of stopping, it would bring us back too.

My DH will be approximately 113 when our points expire and I will be 103. We just purchased in 2012. He had this on his bucket list. They say that someone alive today will reach the age of 150. LOL Maybe it will be us. The nice thing is that the kids love Disney, too, so we can pass it on to them in our wills. We are planning on going till we can't anymore. We usually take the AutoTrain now.
