Getting Nervous About What We Have To Take

Taking Delta to MCO from Raleigh in October. Me, DH, DS3 and DS1. I bought tickets for all of us just because I think its safer and more comfortable for the boys to have their own seats.

Now I'm starting to add up all the things we have to take: both boys need a car seat (to get to/from the airport/hotel), both boys need a stroller, both boys have an inflatable sleeping bag. That's six items right there. Are all of these counted as part of our luggage allotment? I know we're each allowed two pieces, but I'm getting worried about packing clothes for four of us for 8 days in two suitcases.

Anybody know if car seats, strollers and/or rolled up sleeping bags (Ready Beds) are considered "luggage?"

Thanks for your input.

Car seats, especially if being used on the plane are not considered luggage. Sleeping bags are.
for what is allowed and what is counted it would be best for you to go to Delta's website. They have a list there.

I can't imagine you needing more than one suitcase per person. You are allowed two checked pieces plus a carryon (and a SMALL personal item--which was REALLY being enforced on my last flight).

The car seats aren't counted.

So, there are four of you. That's eight pieces of checked. Four suitcases, two strollers, and two airbags. Walla :) You hit the jackpot!

Now you can still carry on a diaper bag, small backpack with some toys for the kids, and a small tote for you and DH with the bare essentials, a book, camera/jewelry, etc.

It looks like you'll be fine. My biggest concern would be hauling it all! In your case you might want to box up those airbags and ship them down in advance--one less thing to wrangle. (Do you really need them?)

First off, if you bought seats for your children, you're probably planning on bringing on their car seats, so those won't count towards any allowance, checked or carry-on. If you gate check the strollers, they won't count towards your allowance either, if you check them with regular luggage, I believe each carrier has different rules regarding that one. The sleeping bags will count, but why don't you buy a duffle bag that is MUCH larger (if these are Ready Beds, I know they are small) and then pack them in there along with all of the kids clothes. That way, you'll have one piece of luggage for the boys as well as their beds all together. I wouldn't carry the beds on, since it would count towards your carry-on allowance and you don't get much there anymore. I'd also suggest that you go out and buy the car seat carrier bags from Babies R Us. They can usually hold two seats if you pack it right, and can be carried like a backpack. Really helps when trying to get on/off the plane and having small children. Have your 3 YO carry on a back-pack with all toys and games you plan on bringing to keepthem occupied, that way all you'll have to do is carry on the diaper bag and the 1 YO. Trust me, this is a handful to try to get on the plane, so don't plan on bringing ANYTHING else on the plane, everything else must be checked.

CAR SEATS ARE COUNTED IF THERE NOT AIRLINE APPROVED AND BOSTER SEATS ARE NOT AIRLINE APPROVED IF THE HARNESS SYSTEM IS OFF

I'm flying out of RDU on Southwest the middle of next month. I almost booked Delta because there were more flight options but I was reluctant to take one of the smaller (~30 passengers) planes. If that's what you're flying let me know what you think about it when you return.

Thanks,
Carolyn
