Getting money's worth with little kids?

Keep in mind, a great deal can change in a year.
With that said, this might not appeal to you, but might you consider taking this year to accustom your 1-year-old to a more laid back napping approach? I'm not sure where you live but once the weather is warmer in your area, maybe you can take your child out for a walk in her stroller during her nap time? That might get them used to napping in a stroller. You can also try putting them in the car and going for a ride at nap time... you can bring reading material or bills or whatever sedentary "chores" you may have. (or a cell phone and catch up on conversation with friends) while they nap in the car. I had a friend whose kids would ONLY nap this way! If you have a garage, once the kids are asleep, you could throw a monitor into the car and keep an ear out for them while you are in the house. Or you could be really adventurous and practice transferring them to their rooms once they are asleep! Rarely works for my kids though, unless they are really exhausted! I wouldn't do this ALL the time, but maybe a couple times a week in the 4-5 months leading up to the trip! You never know until you try how adaptable they may become! If it doesn't work, at least you tried and you can go back to your regular schedule and plans from there.
