Hi All!

Not sure if this is the best place to post this thread, but I'm hoping any of you who have flown to Orlando to get married can help!

We are getting married on 13th October at Cypress Grove Park, booked through Virgin. We arrive in Orlando on 10th October which is a Sunday. I understand that the next day (Monday 11th) is Columbus Day, a bank holiday. We were hoping to get our marriage licence this day. Does anyone know if the courthouse will be open?

If not, are we leaving it too late getting the licence on Tuesday 12th? (The day before we get married)!!

I have emailed Virgin twice to ask them, but both times just get an automated email back from them saying "they are very busy at the moment"!!! Good ol' Virgin, eh??!!!

Anyway, I know we have months to sort it out, but I really want to get on with the planning and know what days we are doing what!!

Also, I dont suppose there's a way that we could get our licence by post before we fly out, is there? I really dont want to waste a morning at the courthouse if we dont have to!

Any ideas, anyone?

Hi LorraineH

Me and my wife were married in Orlando last year.

For the full answers to all your questions (and ours at this time last year !!) follow this link to the Orange County Clerk of Courts website

In basic response to your queries -

A marriage license may be obtained from the Orange County Courthouse - Monday to Friday - EXCLUDING holidays - 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Non-Florida residents are not subject to the state 3 day delay for issue of the license which is valid for 60 days from the date of issue and so you will have no problems collecting your license the day before the wedding - I seem to recall that we collected ours the day before the ceremony too !

The license can only be obtained in person from the Marriage License Department - both partities must be present and apply together.

To speed up the process you can download the Marriage License Information Sheet and complete it prior to visiting.

The whole process of obtaining the license - including waiting in line - took us no longer than 1 hour of our day.

Hope this info helps out.

Happy Wedding !

Thanks for reply tyke!!

An hour's wait doesnt seem bad! If we get to the courthouse for 8am we can still do one of the "full-day required" parks!!

Where did you get married? And how many guests did you have?

And did you do anything special in the evening?

There's only going to be the two of us, plus my two children (aged 11 and 8).

We want to do something special in the evening thats fun for all of us. We're thinking of the Pirates Dinner Adventure!

Thanks again,

Lorraine.

Thanks Kaylee.

Yes Ive seen the Disney Weddings board. Ive got loads of good ideas from there!

All these Boards are excellent! Ive only been a member now for about a fortnight, but Ive learnt so much! They are so helpful!

Thanks Everyone!

We had our wedding ceremony on the grand lawn at the wyndham orlando resort - it was the perfect setting for the most memorable day of our lives.

We were lucky to have 8 close members of our family with us at the wedding - our parents - my sister + brother-in-law who were our witnesses - my nephew (12) who presented the rings and my neice (9) who was our bridesmaid.

After the wedding we had a reception dinner in the hotels private dining room and in the evening we all chilled out by the pool - eating wedding cake - washed down with plenty of liquid refreshment !!!

The whole experience was fantastic from start to finish - the excellent service provided by the wedding co-ordinator ensured that everything from the minister to the flowers to the photography and the reception dinner were arranged with no hassle for us - all we had to do was turn up ! - meaning that we were stress free to enjoy both the wedding and the holiday.

If we did it all again I would not change a thing and thoroughly recommend the experience to anyone who is thinking of marrying abroad.

Hope your wedding is as amazing as ours was.

PS -

Are you getting married outside ! - if so one thing to note - our ceremony was held at 2:00pm and the temperatures in the direct sunlight were busting the 100F barrier - in a full suit/wedding dress this is heavy going - make sure you drink plenty of water and get as much shade as you can !

We got married last year, 14th October at Cypress Grove Park. As said before you will be fine getting your licence the day before and it takes no time at all.

Can I just say that Cypress Grove Park is an absolutely beautiful setting for a wedding. The minister for Cypress Grove is lovely as are the people who work there. For us it rained all morning but 10 minutes before we arrived for the ceremony it had stopped and the sunshined for the rest of the day. Our pictures are lovely, everyone at home was amazed at how beautiful the surroundings were, and our video is great. The only other people at our wedding were our two children as well (10 & 4) and they enjoyed the day tremendously too. For the evening we booked the kids into the Mousekeeters club and we went and had a very lovely, grown up, romantic dinner at Victoria & Alberts (both are at the Grand Floridian). We had a big party for family and friends on our return so that appeased them somewhat!

Without sounding too mushy I have to say that we had the most perfect day and I wouldn’t change a thing, except I’d like to do it all again!!!!

Thanks Annmarie!

Im glad to hear such good things about Cypress Grove Park!!

How did you book your wedding? Ours is through Virgin, and in the paperwork they have sent they say that someone will visit us on arrival at resort to go through bits with us.

What were the flowers like that you were given? And what did you wear? As we are getting married almost exactly the same day as you (13th Oct!!) its good to get all the lowdown! Did you get changed into your dress at your hotel, or did you use their bridal suite? Have you got any pictures? That would be great to see them.

And Tyke's earlier reply said he had witnesses. I read somewhere that witnesses arent essential. Did you have them?

We are doing exactly the same as you, having a big party on our return, to show off our pics and celebrate with everyone else.

Im glad you had a great day.

Lorraine.
