Getting in to Ohana?

What are the chances of getting in to Ohana if we show up at 4:30 and ask to put our name on the list? We have a 9:30 reservation, but with a 3 year old I don't know why I even bothered booking that. I'd love to get a 5:00 reservation. Do openings pop up closer to the day of, or should I start looking for alternatives?

9:30 is late for anyone to have dinner, much less a 3 yr. old. The place is insanely (and unnecessarily, imo) popular. Even if you show up early, you might still wait for over an hour. I'd seek an alternative. :earsboy:

Our last 9:30 reservation at Ohana we didn't get seated until 9:55. Find something else

Keep trying I have got reservations in the last couple of weeks by trying a couple of times a day

If you show up that early they'll just tell you to come back close to your reservation time. Even then you'll probably be seated way afterwards.

Start checking the couple of days before for an earlier reservation. Things may open up.

The last week before you go check often. A lot of people finalize there plans and have to cancel a few things .

There is almost no chance that you will be seated hours before your ADR. The likely outcome of showing up that early is that you will spend hours sitting there waiting. 'Ohana is almost never on time. We have eaten there over a dozen times and have always been seated late. I would find another place to dine if you can't find something earlier that will suit you.

Check the night before. That is when lots of people cancel to avoid the fee. As long as you cancel yours before midnight you will not be charged.

Both times I have been there, there was a long queue of people without reservations trying to do this, no idea how many were successful, if you are going to try then get there early. Kona cafe that is nearby has good food, or you can abort and get a nice icecream from nearby.

I would find an alternative restaurant and dump this ADR. If an opening turns up as you get closer to your date, then you can take it but at least you know you will have a planned meal when your little one is used to eating. If youchoose to show up early the chances of gaining an earlier meal are slim, and you will have invested precious travel time for nothing.

That's really late and not worth it IMO. I was under the impression that it was a must do for ADR based on peoples opinions. It's a long dinner and the quality isn't all that great. We had a 7:30 reservation when we went and our 8 year old fell asleep at the table while dinner was still being served. The only things that were good in my opinion were the salad, the noodles, and the pot stickers. The meat...well, not impressed. Again, just my opinion. We are going to give Kona Cafe a try for our May trip.

Kona is an awesome alternative if you want to see the Polynesian. My friend says she has had luck with begging the CM the day of and going early but I wouldn't risk it.

Is there a chance you'll get in 'Ohana at opening? Perhaps, but it wouldn't be worth trying (to me at least) with a hungry 3 year old in tow. And waiting until 9:30 for dinner would have been way too late for my kids at that age. I would've been peeling them off the walls.

Since you have a toddler, I agree with much of the other posters advice to find an alternative that suits your schedule better. We have found some hidden gems by going with alternatives to the more popular places. If 'Ohana is important to you...keep checking for an opening; we have snagged some great ADRs at the last minute.

I have said that it is fascinating to watch the number of people staying at the Poly who didn't make ADRs try to have tantrums at the CM at the check-in for Ohana. People get quite irate sometimes.

I have never seen even the polite ones get in. Ohana is always behind schedule, so instead of putting in someone without an ADR, they always have to use the table for someone WITH an ADR who is waiting. The only time I'd imagine someone without an ADR would get in is at the very end of the day when there is a table but no more expected guests.

Another option if going for the food, order room service . I read they will deliver the whole dinner to your room . Someone on here had a pic of the Room service menu .

DITTO. I wanted 50 min WITH ADR at 5:00 pm.

I know it has those who LOVE it, but after 3 strikes....er, I mean 3 meals.....I'll not be back.

That's a crazy amount of time to wait for an ADR for 5:00. I was hoping we won't have to wait much with our ADR at 5:20.

No kidding! A restaurant that opens at 4:30 and is running nearly an hour behind on reservations after the first half-hour is doing something wrong.

^This. No use holding an ADR you won't use and if you aren't going to use it then no one else can have it. I don't think the 9:30 ADR will improve your chances at 4:30 any more than not having one. 9:30 is late unless your coming from the west coast and staying on Pacific time (so it would be like 6:30)
