I have a friend who is going to be staying at WDW without a car but wants to eat at a restaurant at Citywalk. Would the best/only way to get there by taxi? Any idea how much a taxi would cost and how long it would take to get there?

I believe there is a WDW/Universal travel sticky in either the transportation forum or the Universal forums located on the DIS. While geared more towards the park goer, it should help with giving you some of the information you are looking for.

In general, You options for travel from WDW to Citywalk are going to be:

1. Rent a car. [There are places onsite at Disney you could rent a car for a day if you want]

2. Taxi. (Obviously the most direct and requires the least amount of planning. Both the resorts and Universal parks have taxi stands with cabs waiting)

3. Mears Shuttle (Pre-scheduled runs from Disney to Universal, cheaper than a taxi since you'll basically be ride-sharing)

4. Lynx bus. (There is a city mass transit bus that will get you from the Disney complex [DTD or TTC I think] to Universal. It takes a long time and may also require a transfer).

Since I usually rent a car, I can't give you much info on the Taxi or other "let someone else drive" methods, so I'd probably recommend looking for the sticky I mentioned.

In General, the Universal resort properties are usually about 20-30min away from the Disney Resort, depending upon traffic and/or the route taken.

Don't hold me to the exact dollar amount, but I will be close, as we have done both of these options...

If you want to do a taxi on your own, it is $35 each way from a Disney resort to the drop off spot at Universal. That is for up to 7 people, flat fee. You don't need an advance reservation, just go to the cab stand at your Disney hotel and they'll have a cab for you in a minute.

If you want to do the Mears shuttle, it is $8/pp each way. You can book that through your Disney hotel concierge.

Be advised it takes MUCH longer to do the shuttle, as they will stop at multiple hotels. About 25 minutes via taxi, as much as an hour with the shuttle.
