I am trying to figure out a way for my brother to get from WDW-(Baylake Towers) in January to St. Augustine. I called Mears and was told it would be over $200.00 one way with a towncar, which is all would be available with them. I was thinking possibly he could rent a car. How would I go about finding out the cost for the car rentals at WDW? He is extremely interested in American History so has requested to be able to go there.

I don't understand what the problem is. Just pick the rental car company of your choice. Start to book using "Lake Buena Vista, FL" as the pick up location and "St. Augustine, FL" as the drop off location. Plug in your dates and class of car and you will have a price.

Sorry I didn't realize I had asked a "stupid" question. Obviously I have never had to rent a car before and I thought this would be the place to ask.

Of course, if he wants to come back to WDW, you don't want a one way. You just want to return it to the same place - just enter your pick up and return date and time. The car care center at WDW may not be the cheapest, but if you are on-site it is easy.

Mousesavers has lots of tips for car rentals.

Mousesavers does have great discount options. Also, if you have Costco, BJ's, etc check their websites for discounts. Good luck!!

Is your brother at least 25 years old? Does he own a car? Call your broker and find out if rental cars are covered.

The extra "insurance" hawked by the rental agents are very profitable to the companies and not needed by most of us.

It cheaper to bring your own GPS then rent one from the rental agency. It's cheaper to return the car with a full tank of gas then pre-pay for a tank of gas.

Frequently the rental agent will hard sell an upgrade. Sometimes the class you reserved is sold out and they'd rather sell you an upgrade then wind up giving it to you for free.

Alamo is the rental agency at the Car Care Center on Disney Property - in the pick up location, enter "ORLR72" which is the code for the Disney Car Care Center, then enter your pick up date/time and return date/time. To enter any discount codes/coupons, click on "more options click here" which will take you to another page to enter those, then click on continue to get your quote for whatever car category you choose.

Thanks, I knew there was a car rental place, but was unsure of the name and how to go about getting information about it.

I know my brother & his wife do have a GPS, so I will pass the information onto them.

I had forgot also about Mousesavers so I will look it up and pass the website onto my brother & his wife.

Thanks for the "Mousesavers Tip", I will pass on the information to my brother & his wife.

Dollar has a car rental counter at the Regal Sun which is across from Downtown Disney. We always rent from them for a day. We call and their shuttle picks us up and takes us to the Regal Sun and when we return it we walk over to the bus stop at DTD and take a bus back to our resort (or a boat if we are staying at POFQ).

Actually, there's a tour that leaves from Disney's Swan and the All Star Music Resorts...on Mondays and Thursdays at 8:30am...http://www.orlando-tours.com/?event=page.pickup&offerId=12965. It's Orlando Tours, and you can book through that link online. Hope that helps.

Nice find. Great for people without a drivers license. For 2 people renting a car will be cheaper, and more flexible. Renting a car will probably wind up being about the same price for one person.

Cost for one person is around $72. Pickup at Swan is 8:10a. DHS normally opens at 9a, you won't be able to get to the Swan using Disney transportation. You'll need to pay extra for transportation to the Swan.

Your trip is in Jan. I arbitrary checked 1/19-1/20 on carrentals.com There are many cars available for $45-$50 including taxes and fees. An example Alamo has an economy car for $40 from either the Dolphin or car car center. Total with taxes and fees is just under $50. Figure another $20-$30 for gas and your price is about the same as the bus.

I'd book something then keep checking. Try COSTCO or AAA (if you're a member). Also check mousesavers.

Also price a car for your entire vacation.

It is a 2 hour drive up to St. Augustine from Orlando, so the car rental might be his best option. If he was going to go with the bus tour, research how much time he would actually have up in St. Augustine. AND add on the train tour. My grandmother is a local, yet we still do the bus tour when we go down. Just makes it easier to get around town.

Plus, he should totally have an idea of what he wants to do when he spends the day. There is a lot to do. For only a few hours, you need a plan.

I was rechecking the information regarding getting to St. Augustine and didn't realize I had got 3 more posts since I last looked. Thanks to all of you. I have forwarded the information onto my brother and he can take it from there.

:disrocks::thanks:

The drive is closer to two and a half hours rather than 2. 2 is if there is no traffic and he's ok going 90 on I-4 and I-95. Also make sure he looks up the best route possible and doesn't rely solely on the GPS. The exits to St. Augustine from I95 lead into the actual city not the old town. And it's a mighty long drive up A1A.

It is closer to 3 hours from WDW, which is not in Orlando.
