I will be staying at the Fairfield Inn for my first night. The next day I will be transferring over to the Disneyland hotel.
I realize that they are not too far from each other but I was wondering since I 'll have my suitcase should I grab a taxi? I know that taxi drivers are never too thrilled about a short trip, but I'd feel kind of funny walking down the roadway with my suitcase rolling behind me.

It's not even a full block away from the fairfield Inn to the entry to DLR, then it would be just walking through DTD. It's a little bit of a walk, but we've done it carrying more then just a carry on. :)

Remember you'll be going through bag check, though, if you go over through DTD!

I'd just catch a cab. Less hassle, IMO.

Oh wait, unless you're checking out of ff and into DLH very very early. If you're going really super-early, then walking through the esplanade would be easier, b/c bag check isn't up and running. Then you could just check into DLH...if they have your room ready that's a breeze, but if not just park your bags with Bell Services and use the money you would have used for a taxi on a tip for the bell people! :)

Definately do-able. down the street to the light, go between the the DL and DCA entry gates, through downtown disney, under the magicians hat and whola there ya go.

Okay well it sounds as though walking it is doable. I would probably check out of the Fairfield Inn pretty early because I'll want to get checked into the DLH and get over to the parks as soon as I can.

Oh, and I meant to respond to the taxi driver thing you mentioned...the taxis in the DLR area are used short trips. I imagine it's their bread and butter. The quick trip from Amtrak to Disneyland, the trip from the taxi/shuttle area to a hotel, etc...that's what they do in that area! So don't worry at all about that. It's all metered and I'm sure they are fine with it. :)

But walking, especially early before the bag check people are there, won't be difficult.

It was the very same "how am I going to change hotels" that got us renting a car through hotwire, by the way....paying to get from and to LAX, plus one of us taxiing with bags while the other walked with DS in the stroller (we weren't bringing the carseat) very early in the morning just lost its luster...so we brought the carseat and just rented the car. :)

I'm kind of apprehensive about renting a car as I will be travelling solo, so I'll take either the super shuttle or the Disneyland Express to and from LAX. I have a 5 day ticket for Disneyland and figure on a bus tour to the San Diego Zoo with Grayline.
I'm use to all the walking at WDW so I figure a trip between hotels should not be too bad. It's good to know that the cab drivers are use to the short trips. This way if I am tired or just lazy I'll hail a cab.

Ooh, a solo trip! Very fun.

I really just meant to give my car experience to let you know that you're not alone in this sort of "what's the best way" sort of question. :)
