Getting from GCH to DLR

I have a question that really demonstrates my ignorance, I'm afraid. I promise I'll go out and buy a book and get more info!

We're taking our twin boys to DL for the first time in Dec (surprise! and they are convinced we won't be "doing Disney" again for a few years because we went to WDW last year...) One of our twins uses a wheelchair or a walker due to his cerebral palsy.

I'm still trying to understand how to get around. We're staying at the GCH. What are my transportation options to get to the Disneyland Hotel for dinner? We won't have a car. If walking is one of the options, how far is it or how long will it take?

Thank you!

It's close enough to walk. It will take a few minutes but it is doable. My guess would be about 10 min. as well.

Since you don't have a car, walking is the ONLY option for getting to the DLH from the GCH. And even if you had a car, it would probably be shorter to walk - unless you used Valet Parking, I guess. As others have said, it's not very far - about .3 miles to the restaurant area of the DLH.

It should take about 10 to 15 minutes. Walk leisurely from the GCH to DL Hotel. It is less than a quarter mile. Just give yourself extra time - just in case you want to browse a shop or take in the sights along the way.
I would think if you needed assistance for anything that you could contact the GCH front desk or the restuarant and they would be more than happy to assist you.

Enjoy!

My mom uses an ECV and she absolutely loves Disneyland because there is no messing with busses. Everything is within walking distance, and nothing is more than 10 minutes away.

If you are used to WDW, than you will be in for a pleasant surprise at DLR. Everything is so easy and so close. Once you get here, you will know what we are all talking about! Oh, and your choice of hotels, makes it twice as nice for your son and family!

And you will be here at the best time of the year IMO. :santa: So magical and pretty in the parks! The Grand will have a beautiful tree, Santa Claus, stories by the hearth, and my absolute favorite were the accapella carolers all dressed up in period costumes singing in the Lounge.

Have a wonderful time!!!! :goodvibes

I will "warn" you, however, that that short walk goes straight through the "I want it" zone. My guy is only 3, but he managed to figure out that he absolutely NEEDED everything we passed, and was quite vocal about it. I got to where I never wanted to go through DTD again. Sigh.

Other than that, it's a short, relatively pleasant (if loud, with the piped in music), paved walk.

But if you go out the main entrance of the GC isn't there a path off to the right that skirts the hotel and the edge of Downtown Disney and avoids most of the shops? Though I guess it would still go by the Lego Shop...

I know that if you go out the main entrance and go left out to the GC driveway and cross Disneyland Drive (like you're going out to self-parking) and go to the DLH that way you can avoid all the shops until you get to the ones in the DLH area. That's probably a little longer - though if you are going to Hook's Pointe or Croc's it should be a little shorter to go that route.
