We're taking a trip to DC soon, and got a great airfare into BWI. What is the best way to get from the airport to Union Station in DC? It looks like both Amtrak and the MARC trains run the route, but the MARC appears to be cheaper. What are the differences, if any, between the two? It would be me, DH and DD, and we're all quite comfortable with public transportation, even with luggage. We'd take the Metro from Union Station to our hotel in Arlington. Thanks!

There is a complimentary shuttle service from BWI airport to the BWI train station where you can catch Amtrak or MARC to Union Station in DC. Amtrak is a bit more plush than MARC, which is the commuter line for MD residents. MARC does not operate late at night, but Amtrak does. Amtrak is notorious for being late and I know from experience that standing on the BWI train platform in the cold is miserable.

Your other option is to take an airport shuttle service, such as Super Shuttle. The shuttle services are usually shared, but at least you will be warm and moving.

There are also taxis, but they are expensive. Expect to pay $75 - $90 for a taxi from BWI to Arlington.

Metro also runs a shuttle from BWI airport to the Greenbelt Metro station. I am not sure of the cost but I know you could probably find it on the metro site.
