getting fit for your trip - a place to share & ramble

pizza hut, garlic bread , half a bottle of wine and a macaroon...i think it was the macaroon that pushed me over the edge.....not a good day to give up carbs:rotfl2:
gym tomorrow....

congrats aussie travellers!! 8kg in 8 weeks is great, and it sounds like you're happy and getting healthy, which is a huge accomplishment :)

i just have to follow suit myself :coffee:

Thanks Alicia! You will get there too :) and thanks for your support too, it means a lot when you leave me comments on my blog and fb page  :flower3:

Congratulations on the wonderful weight loss :)

Wow, 8kgs is fantastic, congratulations!

Thanks Marlea98 and 5ofus. I still have a bit to go, but I'm getting there slow and steady and best of all, enjoying the journey!

A friend has recommended the hcg diet and sent me a PDF of her booklet. It's huge reading so I will get through it and consider it.

Small steak and salad plus some ice cream last night. Peanut butter toast for breakky today plus 45 mins on the treadmill at the gym and a cherry ripe for after. Bought a new Zumba workout DVD (now that I've bought a new one I will find the one the kids lost) too and some scales. Never had scales in my house before. I've lost 1 whole kilo in 2 weeks :) Now I'm off to have a shower and de-stinkyfy myself before doing the dishes the kids didn't do last night :(

had a terrible day today at work, things are just getting really, really on top of me when it comes to life in general and i feel like i have way too many balls in the air and i'm a $h!t juggler at the best of times... i am exhausted physically and emotionally and i just need a plan to get things back on track ..

jumped on the scales when i got home and rather than losing weight recently, i have put on, took my measurements and yup, put on inches too.

grrr.

i feel like something drastic needs to be done or else i will end up being one of those morbidly obese crazy women who scream at people from the gutter as they walk by... and quite frankly, nobody wants that... :sad2::sad2::sad2:

That's a shame Alicia. Hope you have a better day tomorrow:goodvibes

When I went for a walk round the block (7km) at the weekend to my surprise my non athletic DD8 came as well. I told it was good training for Disneyland and that she should do it once a month until our trip :)

Oh Alicia, I know how you feel. I had a horrible week last week when everything was just too much. Had a long talk to DH and he as taken some stuff off me to ease things a bit. I have the horrible affliction of no being able to say no so often end up wit too much on my plate.

Hope you feel better after a good sleep tonight.

Alicia, that's what we're here for, a place to vent and be supported. I'm ready to scream over family sh#* so I understand where you're coming from. Take care :)

Hope today is a better day for you Alicia!

Bought the Zumba DVD and watching and trying out the basic steps part. My boy dog has gone and put himself behind the curtain. I don't know if that's a good sign :) The girl dogs are laying on their beds watching me out of the corners of their eyes...

Gym this morning then some present shopping, early lunch of spaghetti marinara, call to get my windscreen replaced, watched tv footage of the hurricane, check for eggs in the chook and duck yard and now some Zumba time- done oh-so-clutzily :)

Oh I had a laugh at your boy dog going :rotfl: I have the Zumba DVD's and the weight things that come with them. The first time I was doing one of the DVD's. My son came downstairs and started bellowing with laughter, the then dropped to the floor laughing telling me I looked ridiculous :lmao:

Needless to say, I haven't used them again. :rotfl: I now have the Jillian Michaels set (that I got really cheap on one of those scoopon type things) and the Michelle Bridges set.

At least your four legged friends didn't roll on the floor laughing at you :rotfl:

Has anyone done a rundisney run?

Are they walks as well or all fun runs?

Through Michelle Bridges 12WBT that I am doing, she has a learn to run program that you can do if you like (as well as a learn to run a marathon program, won't do that just yet :rotfl: ). I'm thinking of doing the learn to run program and if I do learn to run (I currently am struggling to run to the kitchen from the living room :rotfl: ).

But I was thinking that if I do the learn to run and I am successful that I may treat myself to a Disney holiday and do a Disney fun run (at DL or WDW depending on the dates in the year I will do it).

Would love to hear if anyone has done one before and how it was.

I've done one- the 2010 marathon grat fun well organized. I was a runner but there was lots of walkers

Weeeellllll....

The first time I bought them (these are replacement ones for the originals I can't find) DD and I had a go together only to find DS wax hiding behind the couch filming us with his ipod - grrr! Then I went to a class at the gym on a Saturday and had to drag the kids along with me - not a good idea when they have their iPods and DS decides again to film me AND the rest of the class. I was mortified! So I never did Zumba again after that. Now I've decided to do it at home when there's nobody home but as we don't have curtains I'm afraid someone passing by will see - despite our having tinted windows and being 100m from the road! But yes, I've scarred the dogs. I think they thought there was something wrong with me :)

I haven't done any runs and somehow manage to never be around on school sports days at the moment they're calling for parents and teachers to run :) Sport is not my forte as evidenced by my efforts at taking prep-2 p.e classes :)

I would love to try the CC 5K next year but I think I'd make a fool of myself. I'm the person who sat down and demanded my husband call for a helicopter to come and get me out of Cathedral Cove in NZ rather than walk back up, and stated that I could pretend to have seen Franz Joseph (or was it Fox?) glacier rather than go a step further up the climb (it turned out I only had to turn the next corner and we were there ). So I'm ver unfit :) But I have tried going short runs on the treadmill at the gym and I find I get sharp pains up my right shin almost straight away or my feet hit each other - I kind of do a shuffling run I think. But I would like to be a runner, it'd come in handy when I have to bolt across the paddocks when DS has a stack on his motorbike :)

is anyone using my fitness pal? i just discovered it and it is making life a little easier for me. i just plug in pretty much anything i eat and it tells me how many calories, grams of protein, fat, carbs etc it contain and it helps me set goals to reduce weight etc.

Yep, I'm using My Fitness Pal. Love it, started using it with 12wbt as that seems to be what most people use to track their calories each day. Helps me stick to my 1200 calories a day too.

yay glad to hear someone else is using it and loving it. i find it easier to use than calorie king, as it has a lot more real world examples.

i just started today on the tony ferguson new start program - i need a low GI program with a controlled calorie count, and this has worked in the past. so far it's not too bad. i'm keeping my water intake high. normally by about lunch time i start craving the carbs/sugar but on this new start version, i am finding that i am feeling full and it's a much better fit for me.

my typical day will look like this:

bfast: flavoured shake + baby carrot slices
snack: small apple
lunch: flavoured shake + 150g steamed veges with 90g tuna
snack: small apple
dinner: 200g steamed veges with 90g tuna and 1 hardboiled egg

+ 2 litres of water. this works out at less than 1200 calories, so i get extra snacks in the form of adding cordial to my water, a small serve of diet jelly, an extra hardboiled egg in there or some extra fruit if i need it for the extra sugar content.

usually around day 3 is when i hit the wall and start becoming a raging beast from hell with the cravings, so we will see how i go. typically, it is costing me $46 for the shakes + the cost of steamed veges and fruit each week, so it's not that much more than my regular grocery spend but infinitely healthier for me :)

Just make sure you have at least 1200 calories a day. That is the minimum healthy number that the body needs to function properly, so make sure that you have that a day. We have been told on 12WBT, that if you eat less than that, your body goes into starvation mode and it will hold onto fat as you aren't giving it enough. I break it up into 3 x 300 calorie meals then 3 x 100 calorie snacks, but if I'm going out for lunch or dinner, I will get rid of a snack or two and eat those for my meal instead.

I always seem to need a snack around 3 or 4 too. I usually have some low fat cottage cheese (the bulla, onion and chive one, YUMMY) and 10 wholegrain rice crackers. Its about 100 calories, so a perfect snack. Speaking of that, I may just go and have that now! :rotfl:

I haven't tried Calorie King, so can't compare, just went straight to my fitness pal. Love that it's free, such an awesome service for no cost. Love a bargain. I love that tony ferguson iced coffee shake, mmmm. Love the chocolate too come to think about it :rotfl: Congrats on starting the new program!
