Getting cold feet..

each time we go see our guide I get a little feeling"should we do it?" and do we really need it? However somehow we use all those points. ;)

And, oh yeah, I have one of those sweatshirts too -- and luggage tags, a refrigerator magnet and a coffee mug!

LOL - I have the luggage tags too!!! They are on my WDW luggage! :rotfl2:

A little off topic, but while we were there a few weeks ago I was wearing my DVC sweatshirt. We were at the Contemporary having a few drinks while the kids were in the game room. I was heading down the stairs to go get the kids & I heard "Welcome Home".

I turned around to realize a DVC guide (actually the ones that plan the tours) was walking behind me. I'm such a goofball because my face lit up, I said "oh, thank you" & of course told the story to everyone in my travelling group!!!

As far as missing your other favorite resorts, you don't have to!!!! Simply add a night or two at the beginning or end of your trip and stay with a cash reservation. This is a more economical use of your points than using them to pay for a Friday or Saturday night stay. But, you might also find that this is not as much of an issue when you've had the experience of staying at a DVC resort.

We do this so we can experience other resorts & really enjoy it. It saves on points & we love to try the deluxe resorts. I recommend this route. :)

Thank you to everyone for the posts, you all answered any of the doubts I may have had, after 6 different Disney trips at varying resorts our family has grown from 2 small children to 3 children, ages 12, 5, and 1.

I know that our vacations yearly or biyearly will continue and DVC is the right fit, I know that Disney service cannot be compared but hearing the "horror"stories was starting to make me second guess.
I think I was overreading some of the posts and scaring myself out of something I have been trying to talk my Husband into for 5 years.
He even thinks I am crazy for getting cold feet!

I have since put some socks on and am ready for my first trip home, hopefully Jan.2006. :earsboy:

thanks to everyone for their support.

I am glad you've "settled in". It is a big investemtn though, and so your worry is undrstandable.

DH and I have been members since 1997, bought a second contract in 2002...both are at OKW. We have stayed in every DVC resort at WDW except SSR. I have encountered the occasional "less than Disney" CM, but I have encouneterd the same type of CM when I was a "regular" Disney vacationer, not a DVCer. I thnk it's more the CM than the DVC membership. Maybe they are having a bad day, maybe they just got yelled at by the person before you...CMs are human, and have good and bad days just like the rest of us. In any event, I find that if I approach people in a friendly, respectful manner that I have no problems. I do agree with the poster who said something to the effect that there are some who feel they deserve "special" treatment because they are DVCers. Yes, I have purchased an "interest" in Disney, but I feel that what I have received even thus far...wonderful accomodations at reasonable cost, Disney's service, and the ability to vacation more frequently that I dreamed possible...are "repayment" enough.

I guess it's all in your attitude. We have never regretted our DVC purchase for one minute, and actually consider it among the best purchases we have ever made.

As far as "missing" staying at the other resorts....well, you can always arrive on a friday or saturday, stay at the Poly paying cash, and then move to the DVC for Sunday night through Friday. That's what we do...saves points, gives us the benefit of staying at resorts we enjoy, makes it almost seem like 2 vacations, Disney makes it easy to move your luggage(they do it all through bell services).

Hi,
This post is going to sound slightly neurotic, considering at the beginning of the week I couldn't wait for the paperwork to come and even though I have wanted to join for a few years, I am starting to question my decision to join.
I am about to sign all the paperwork, Disney has my deposit but I am reading posts about how DVCers are treated differently(not positively) by CAST MEMBERS, and I keep thinking about staying at non DVC resorts such as AKL or the Poly and wondering if I will miss staying there which I know is an option with points but in my view is a waste.
Please forgive me for rambling but could anyone give an opinion?

thanks so much
Kristin :earsgirl:

I wouldn't worry about it.

I think you will be very happy with your purchase.
