Getting chosen for Jedi training?

My son is a huge Star Wars fan and would love to be involved in the show! Any tips on helping him get chosen? Do we arrive early,stand in a certain area? I would just let the force be our guide, but I have more confidence in my fellow DISers.

I was there Sunday 8/19. It seemed to me that the more excited your child is, the better. It can't hurt to dress up in character, but don't think that was necessary. My son was very excited, jumping up and down and yelling "pick me, pick me", and then I started to also point toward him (from behind, over his head), and yell "pick him, pick him", and at that point he was selected. They pick a lot of kids, and if your child is in the front row and energetic, I think you have a good chance that they will get chosen. There wasn't one specific location that seemed to be picked more than others. I've read about parents making signs for their kids (e.g., "The force is strong in this one!"), but I didn't see any of that, and I don't think it would be necessary.

Most important is to make sure your child knows that they might not be selected (avoid the disappointment), and you may need to be willing to go to more than one show if they are determined to be selected.

1. I had my DS11 wear a bright red shirt
2. We arrived early and got a good spot
3. I held him in my arms and bounced him up and down
4. He waved his arms
5. His three older brothers all stood around him and pointed at him
6. He was the second or third one chosen
7. He was in heaven and got to go one-on-one with Darth Maul

I agree a sign could only help.

DS (5) had a Star Wars shirt on (Toys R US has great bright orange Lego Star Wars shirts) and we made a nifty sign that had a Jedi saying on it that I held and it had an arrow pointing to DS. We were at the last show of the day (off season) and he yelled, jumped up and down and I was waiving the sign and he was the first one picked. I think it definitely helps to be at front by the rope.

Yes, girls are also chosen. Not sure with what they do with boys who want to participate in the Princess Fantasy Faire, though.

I finaly started jumping up and down pointing at my son....he was the last one picked and we were among the first there. My oldest refused to try he said he perfers the dark side .

Yes, jumping up and down worked for my son too. We actually got there quite late, just as they music was starting (spent too much time at PFF with his little sister so we owed him big time.) DD14's best friend was with us and she ran him down, held him up and jumped up and down. Fortunately, they do have multiple shows a day, so if it's realy important to your son, you can try another time.

Yes girls are chosen. Jedi clothes work well. My dd is also 6 and she was wearing the jedi tee we got at the character wharehouse the day she was chosen. Dh held he in his arms (to get a height advantage) and both of them were waving arms excitedly. They were in the front row and dd was the 1st one picked, with her 9yo brother standing next to her picked 2nd for that show. It helps to have really energetic kids. Lots of jumping up and down, waving arms, and yelling. I don't think it really matters all that much to get there early so much as making yourself visible amongst the crowd.

Just one word of caution....this is an absolutely great show, but some of the parents REALLY want their child to be chosen. So much so, that two father's actually got kicked out of the park while we were there because one didn't like the way the other was trying to get his son picked, and they were fighting over it! It was truly one of the wildest things I'd ever seen, and Disney actually cancelled the next show that day. It ruined it for the rest of us. Just a heads up

Ya know, I really doubt it. We've been to the show 8 times since, and haven't witnessed anything close to that. I think maybe they were sick of lines or something and their boiling points were reached early on in the day But I must say, I always think about that when we go, it definitely made an impression (albeit negative). Still LOVE the show.

THIS IS THE WAY TO MAKE SURE 100% NO DOUBT THAT YOUR KID IS CHOSEN itll cost ya though....

Right next to the Jedi Academy is a gift shop, they sell Jedi Robes and Lightsabers. The robes are expensive, but theyre still cool. Go in there, buy a robe and have your kid wear it. Make sure theyre near the front of the show. And when theyre picking kids, have them either wave like a maniac, and jump around, or stand and mimic a Jedi. They will get in.

My two nephews (both 13, way older than most kids picked) stood in front, jumped around all they could to get picked, and didnt. So we went into the store, bought robes and lightsabers, and they were picked! The guy made a joke "You two! We have the same tailor!"

My boys (4 and 10) were the only boys waiting for storytime with Belle and they were picked to play Belle's father and the Beast. My 4yo was the Beast and danced with Belle. I cry every time I watch the video - it is too precious for words. My daughter also got to do a little dance with about 7 other girls, but the boys were the stars with no competition. (Oh and there is no 2 hr wait in line for storytime although you don't get the picture and autograph like when you wait in line)

As for Jedi - my three youngest were all picked and I felt kind of bad, but out of my hands right? The little boy next to us at the front of the rope had written in his autograph book "Pick me it's my birthday" and was not picked. His mom was also trying to attract attention for him. I heard him later in the bathroom saying how sad he was and it made my feel so guilty. I would recommend attempting to be picked (front of line id key, lots of excitement) and if not picked, leaving and returning again for another try later.

Seems anything that really stands out. They don't want to say 'kid in the white shirt'. Either something funny, ironic, familiar, etc about what the kid is wearing seems to be popular, or something that would ID only ONE child (so 'kid in blue plaid.....not so much. Kid in orange and yellow stripes, maybe).

My DD was chosen because of her goofy sunglasses. Adding another pic. You can't see how untraditional they are LOL. They are big 'Paris Hilton' type classes. The dude who picks kids (I don't watch SW....not sure what he's called) referred to DD as the girl with the (some SW word I don't kwow) spectacles or goggles or something. I don't know what he was talking about, but it made other people giggle LOL.
