We have reservations at both POFQ and AKL in September and I did something to my knee! I've been planning this trip for over a year and I'm not NOT going! I don't care what I have to do! So, any suggestions as far as wheelchair access or ground floor room requests? I will find out exactly what I did on Tuesday...keep your fingers crossed!

Call and ask for a ground room request. Also, check out an offsite wheelchair place for an ECV that will be waiting for you when you check in. All will be well and you will have the ECV 24/7 when you are there. I would highly advize that you make sure you are comfortable in the EVC once you get there (you can ask the offsite place for a place near you at home to heck one out before you leave to do a few rides) and get the levels YOU need before you take it out for the first time. I would also advize that you and your entire family go slowly on your first day.

We stayed at POR in December, I was 7 weeks out from foot surgery and still on doctor's orders to limit activity. Thankfully my doctor (along with all of her staff) is also a Disney fanatic, so she and I had several discussions about my trip. She suggested either a ECV or wheelchair, and I wore a walking boot almost every day. For my family, a wheelchair was more convenient than an ECV. DH and I are in our early 30s and in good shape, so he pushed my around the parks but I also did a bit of walking.

I faxed our hotel 3 days before checking in to request a room near the main building and explain my situation. We were given a ground floor room that was very near the walkway to the main building and close to ramps. I suggest faxing a room request and explaining why you want a room that's conveniently located.

Thanks everyone! I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do yet...just need to wait for my doctors verdict. I just hate the idea of not being able to walk around and don't want to ruin my husbands good time. I know I'm sending the cart before the horse but I'm a bit of a worry wart!

I'd call- My mom is having some back issues and it's my plan for both resorts (split stay).

Calling the resorts will only get you to an off-site call center. It's a great idea for adding requests, but you can't speak to anyone at the resort.

OP likely doesn't need a first floor or lobby level roomm, because both resorts have elevators in all buildings.

Whatever she did to her knee could very well heal over the next three months.

Worst case, in a building emergency, she could step one stair at a time with all stress on the working knee.

Yeah, I have an MRI scheduled in a few days and am hoping they don't find anything major:crutches:....I need to get back to work so I can pay for my trip! lol Thanks for all of the suggestions! hope I don't need them!:flower1:

Check on the Disabilities Board, they probably have some good suggestions.

Sorry about your knee. On the brighter side, you picked a great resort to have a bum knee do to it's small size and being a short distance from everything.

I've discovered I'm a terrible whiner when I'm stuck at home! I don't like being limited to what I can do! ah well, on the bright side it's only 90 days till we go...scooter or not! lol
