Getting around the resorts with our a car

We always drive. You won't have too much of an issue outside of Boardwalk. At CR, as long as you have a reservation, they will have your name, so you should be OK.

As a plus, it is faster to Epcot in your own car from SSR than it is on the skyliner from RIV...

They probably won't let you park in the CR lot if it's 2 1/2 hours before your ADR. It's usually about 30-45 minutes prior. And during holiday seasons, the security guards have been giving people visiting with ADR's a piece of paper to display on the windshield that has the 3 hour window of time indicated. If it's a party night, they are even stricter. If you want to take the monorail to see resort decor, park at the TTC and board the monorail there, it won't be a problem. Any resort in walking distance of a park or that has a monorail or skyliner as a means of transportation is going to be a lot stricter about allowing non-guests to park, especially without an ADR or being too early for an ADR.
Thanks. So if we get there and park 1/2 an hour before our meal and skip the resort hopping, which I now plan to do, after the 3 hour window what do they do, tow the car after a $300 meal? We are eating at the steakhouse- appetizers, drinks, steak dinners and desserts - if they give us a hard time about how long we take after spending that kind of money, I’ll be on the phone with someone. It’s getting ridiculous with these rules. If we have a problem, I think we will be dining someplace off property alot more from now on.

We’ve been vacationing there since 96. While changes are natural, they certainly aren’t making it easy to dine around the resorts.

Maybe we will just skip it altogether and get off property. Save alot of money and aggravation.

Unfortunately, too many people abuse resort parking to avoid paying for parking at TTC and the parks and/or to make a quick getaway at park closing. Thus the three-hour limit. I haven’t read any reports of cars being towed, though, at least not yet. I admit it’s aggravating, but having circled the BWV parking lot many times when staying there, just looking for a spot, and then seeing it empty out after Epcot fireworks, I appreciate their doing what they can to reduce the problem.

No need to get upset with me, that’s how it is, I don’t make the rules. And yes, it’s been reported they do indeed tow. Not going to say they will, but it could happen. If you don’t want to respect the rules, there are alternatives where you can park at no charge and leave your car for as long as you like, which I mentioned in my post. Honestly, I don’t think they would flinch at all if you canceled, they don’t have problems filling their dining reservations. Guests staying at the CR have challenges finding parking at the hotel they paid for due to people parking and then either going to the park or other resorts - going over the time limit. And those guests are paying on average over $800 a night.

I get the reason, especially at BW. Its one of our home resorts and we never bring a car when we stay there. Too much hassle. I just spoke to my husband and we are down to two choices, rent the car and go off property to where we aren’t restricted while spending a fortune to dine, or just don’t rent the car and lyft around Disney. Buses we only do when we go to parks and this time we are not doing parks. If we dont have the car, we will have to do a food order. I guess Amazon Fresh or Instacart. We just need water, snacks and breakfast items. Any suggestions?

Of course I am not upset with you. I appreciate the info….the info is whats upsetting. That said, we are keeping the car. Made that decision this morning.

We may skip the BW area with the car, but we are taking it every place else. I will post how we fare once we get home. I’m not going to stress over it. We now learned another couple of friends are checking into S/D today so we look forward to meeting them as well. If we have to pay to park, so be it. There are worse things. We may also leave the property to meet a friend that lives on the west coast, and we plan on doing a food shop….so we decided to keep the car.

I appreciate all your info. Have a wonderful holiday!

We ate at Citrico's the other night (I'll let everyone guess what the bill was for a party of 6, LOL), and the guest self-parking lot was 100% full, with 5 or 6 cars slowly driving up and down the aisles waiting for someone to leave. If I were a guest there, I'd be absolutely steamed. We ended up pulling out of the lot and just paying for valet, half for convenience, and half just for knowing how mad I'd be if I were a guest and couldn't find a parking spot at my own hotel.

We also enjoy eating at Citricos. We always valet park when visiting the GF, both due to the length of the walk from the self-park and also the challenge of actually finding a parking place. I consider the cost part of the dining experience.

Knowing what we spend for our party of two, with only a single adult beverage for me since DW doesn’t drink alcohol, I hesitate to think about the bill for a party of six might look like. At least with that size group, the per person premium for valet parking is a very minor addition to the cost of the meal LOL. And we find both food and service to be first rate.

My only "beef" with valet is that I've spent far too long waiting for Disney valets on more than one occasion. It seems to be the only consistent weak link in the front-of-house services at WDW. As for the walk, the self-park is right across from the monorail station/main entrance, so that's not a big deal for me. Being able to walk to my car before a valet can bring it up to me is...LOL.

ETA, we ONLY valet at VGC because the self-park is really "across the street" and is a real hoof back to the hotel.

Yeah, they’re not Disney employees. It was a sad day when Disney stopped employing valets and started the contract with whatever company. The changeover was poorly implemented, too. One day DVC members got free valet parking, the next day they didn’t, no warning, no advance notice, actually no notice at all, just suddenly a charge for it on the hotel bill.

Our bellman at VGF on Monday acted like we were dumb for using valet for our stay. Like "why didn't you park for free?" Ease, less hassle, and laziness thank you very much.

It's like a baby switch. One person goes in to eat dinner, while one stays in the car, circling the parking lot. Then, you swap places.
