Getting AP rate with Child annual pass

Leota said:
How can it NOT be a Loophole? Do you really think The Disney Co. designed that perk for one-time, one Child's AP buyers????

Uh, no - it was designed for repeat visitors, to get the money that repeat visitors spend - not to give cheaper rates to one-time visitors........ That wouldn't make any sense from a business point of view, would it? TDC is a business.....
I agree that folks that shouldn't be getting a discount for APs if they only buy the AP for the discount. But that isn't our problem. As long as Disney allows it so be it. Personally I would prefer they eliminate all AP hotel discounts and only give room discounts to people that are frequent visitors to WDW like maybe going 3 weeks or more a year. That to me are the only ones that truly deserve the cheaper rooms. I also thought it would be nice if Disney requires the actual AP in hand when making reservations. That would eliminate the ones that book and then buy the AP. As far as childrens APs being used, if Disney allows it and it is written NOWHERE that it is against the rules then I'm not getting my panties in a bunch because of it. It really is none of my business.

Skiwee - ROFL At MYSELF! You're right - It really is none of my business if someone takes advantage of a loophole. I do get my panties bunched over this issue when I get shut out of an AP room rate & I see so many folks buying one child's AP just to get the room rate I assumed was meant for AP holders/frequent guests.

My panties still think they're right, but at the same time, I think I'll unbunch them a little..... :earboy2:

I do, however, reserve the right to climb back on my own personal soapbox should my panties ride up again.......

That one I have a hard time with. I am an AP holder, I live in MI and I can't afford to go down 3x in one year or 3 weeks for that matter. I do make smaller trips (5-7 nights each time), that is the way I can afford it. I am taking 2 trips in a 365 day period. One was in Dec of 04 and the other in Oct of 05. By this rule I would not be able to have any discounts because I wasn't down for 3 weeks. (Buy the way my whole family has AP's)

I also can't afford to renew my AP but do buy new ones every other year. I make two trips in one 365 day period (again Dec 04 and Oct 05) then I won't renew until my next trip which will be Dec 06 then Oct 07. Which will make it so I won't renew the pass but would buy a new one prior to my December trip.

So this would mean I am ineligible for discounts and that isn't fair either.

I think the whole way to eliminate this would be Yes you NEED a valid Ap at check in or within 24 hours of check in (and ALL CMs should CHECK) and 2 you must have an Adult AP to save any confusion.

**and 2 you must have an Adult AP to save any confusion.**

If that's what Disney wants, and impliments, then yes, no one would have to wonder. Of course all they have to do is put in on the AP page, if that is going to be a rule this year. Since they haven't, we have to assume it's still status quo.

**My panties still think they're right, but at the same time, I think I'll unbunch them a little.....

I understand your frustration, but the agravation you're feeling really belongs with Disney, and not the people taking advantage of what the AP's offer, and since they haven't posted anything different on the AP page, and until they do, well, I personally think people should take every advantage they can to get a better price. It's not like it's against the rules. It's really up to Disney to make their rules, and of course we all know that even once they do, they reserve the right to break them themselves. So even if Disney starts this year to stop allowing use of AP's by children for rooms (and since the AP board was recently upgraded, I don't understand, if they have changed it, why it isn't there, other than the warning that kids under 18 have to have parents permission to call take advantage of the room code), and even if they post it..it's still their resort and some CM may decide to still honor a child's AP...with Disney's blessing. There resort, their choices.

I think we ALL have our panties in a bunch at really is a ridiculous thing. Thank goodness for DIS boards for us to look silly! I was just like some of you but with reusing mugs. Just ask DMRick who we clashed numerous times! LOL! I was certain that all those horrible mug reusers would surely rotten in hell for such an immoral act! I really got my panties in a wad over that! And for what? I mean if Disney doesn't care, why should I. I used to tell myself and anyone that listened that they would most certainly stop the mug program due to all the abuse! But guess what? Mug reuse is an ongoing thing and I and no one else is going to do anything about it. I have since changed my ways on that one and have learned that it is not the end of the world because of it. I also know that having an AP doesn't get me a discount anyway. For a May trip I called when the AP rates came out and the CM on the phone swore they had not. I begged and pleaded with him to check which he said he did. Since I had no acccess to a computer I believed him. Low and behold that evening I call only to find out there was an AP discount and I missed it all because of some moron CM! So I ended up paying rack rate for the Poly and I had an adult AP. So even having all the right stuff doesn't guarrantee you anything. I just decided I've got better things to do then to worry about all that stuff anyway, ya know? Life is too short as it is. But don't get me started on poolhoppers! They will remain a panty buncher for me! LOL!

LOL, its great that we can all laugh about the silly stuff and still be Disney friends. None of it's worth getting upset about and I'm sure we all have our moments. It's always a good thing to get a insight into other peoples views. Ay least for me it makes me more tolerant in the end even if I kick and complain on the way ! :grouphug:

I've skimmed this thread and I don't know how to side really but I had a question:

You mean to say, that you don't need some sort of AP code or PIN or other type of verification to book with an AP code??? I hope I've misunderstood this.

For the record: I'm a semi-frequent visitor who has never bought an AP nor do I ever intend on buying one for the time being as it just doesn't make financial sense.(for me)

I'm soory I'm still too busy laughing about the hills being alive with the sound of William Hung to answear ! :rockband: :earboy2:

Yeah, those tag fairies are some real yuksters, aren't they? :earboy2:

No, you need nothing to book a room at an AP rate. Technically, you are supposed to have either the actual AP in hand or a voucher for it, when you check in. Otherwise the CM is supposed to charge you rack rate. However that doesn't happne nearly as often as it should.

And skiwee1...I am soooo right behind in the panty bunching dept when it comes to poolhoppers!! I have your back covered in the event any hostilities break out!!!!

The problem is there is policy and there is what happens on a daily basis at Disney. Mainly the problem is there are 55,000 employees. The majority being very low paid, minimum wage CMs that could care less what a guest does. They don't care about the AP situation, they don't care about pool hopping, they don't care about taking towel animals home, they don't care about the refillable mugs, or room occupancy. All they care about is going to work, not having some irate guest yelling at them over any of this, so therefore they "know" the policy, they just don't enforce it.

However if you talk to "management" you get the official policy.

Due to the fact that there is alot of gray areas at Disney, it all can get very confusing. I understand both sides. What will happen just as it did with Cinderella's Breakfast, when the loophole becomes a problem to the point that management notices, changes will be made.

I am sure at some point there will be a change made that an adult AP will be required. It might even be in the works right now.

Disney is not stupid, they are slow but not stupid. If a situation is being manipulated to their disadvantage or they receive enough complaints, they will eventually change it. The problem is sometimes the changes that result will not be ones any of us like.

Exactly, but the ones who get to decide when a program isn't working as they wanted it to, is Disney. They may not see the child's AP use as any type of manipulating..and may just be happy to be filling rooms. Disney as in official Disney. To CM's, it's a job. They don't know everything about everything. You may ask if you can use a child's AP and be told no, but unless it comes from an official guest services email, the answer could mean nothing. I would be very surprised if many people are buying AP's just for their children, to get that discount. The discount isn't that much more than the "regular people" codes for the values, and a lot of people, believe it or not that I have talked to, don't even know or care about the AP's, as they only come once every few years. A lot of people have never even heard that there are codes.
By the way, several years ago, I was told by a CM in one of the parks, that I could not make same day ressie's at Chef Mickey's. I have since found out that isn't true, and we missed what could have been a fun time. I'm sure many of us have been told incorrect things. I know I've written to guest services many times, based on stuf I've read here. Someone brought up pool hopping. Going back to "it's all in how you ask", I certainly know the pool hopping policy. However, I did email and ask last year if it would be possible to ask at a hotel, if while waiting for someone to come off the pirate trip, if another child could swim. The answer was the official answer, followed by a note, that I could also ask at the hotel, to see if that was possible that day. I have also found that the "official" email that they send you, doesn't always go with what the person who wrote the email says when doing their follow up phone call.
In any instance what will be will be, I would rather spend my time enjoying the vacation, and the prep, and not policing anyone else. I have had a lot of fun with my "pool hopping" pictures here, and find it's easier to just be lighthearted if you believe someone is doing something against the "official" rules. Disney can take care of themselves.

What if a manager told you the official policy was that a child's AP is fine. Try it. I got from a manager today too.

I have no desire to "try it", as I could care less about this situation. My comments were only to state I know why people get different answers to the same questions at Disney.

If you can book a discount with a child's AP, then go for it. If someone else can't, then their loss and I guess they will complain.

My take on the situation is basically the same as DMRick's.

At this time as far as I know, the child's AP is accepted.

Oops! Sorry. I thought you meant that "official policy" from a manager would tell you that you cannot use a child's AP for the discount.

Looks like those panties are getting bunched up again ! It also looks like there are those who just like to cause trouble on this board. Saying the same thing over 20 times won't convince anyone of anything. Lets just give it a rest until someone has that official policy in writeing that they can post. Why am I not suprised the trouble makers pool hop as well ?

Why do you keep attacking people, and name calling? That is not allowed on this board. You are the only one trying to keep the negative on this going.

The only person I see trying to cause trouble is you. People ask Disney all sorts of things (after all, they own the resort, and can give answers)..why does this bother you so much? And when did they make you a moderator telling the rest of us if we can or can't continue a subject. You've been on this board what..one week? Geesh!

By the way, I assume you weren't one of the 30,000 people who viewed the pool hopping pictures. They were a joke..no one pool hopped in them. Even the owner of this board wrote to tell me how funny he thought they were.

OMG you have to post those again!! I don't think anything on this board has ever made me laugh that hard.
