Getting an ice cream fix at DLR will be hard for awhile!

What with the closure last year of Burrrbank Ice Cream in DCA, and the recent closure of Gibson Girl in DL, getting a hand scooped ice cream cone or ice cream sundae just got harder!

We were at DL a few weeks back and we lucked out that even though Gibson Girl had a huge line there wasn't a line at all at the Main St. Cone Shop. (Though on a trip a few days before the line at the cone shop was long).

I talked to the CM and he mentioned the upcoming closure (now closed) of Gibson Girl and how it wasn't going to be open for months. We discussed how that's really going to put a lot of pressure on that one little cone shop for your ice cream cone fix. I am really surprised that Disney scheduled both of these closures for the same time. Gibson Girl nearly always has a huge line and now they really don't have anything like it to fill the gap.

The Main Street Cone Shop has a much smaller menu and is in a much smaller building. They just won't be able to put out as much product as Gibson Girl did. You can get a few ice cream sundaes at Golden Horseshoe but the selection is pretty limited. They only offer 3 sundaes, and 2 flavors of ice cream. (vanilla and mint 'n chip). I have tried several times to get an hot fudge sundae in a waffle cup, not with 2 cookies, and have been unsuccessful. The only good thing is you do get an AP discount at GH unlike GG.

Maybe they'll add more ice cream choices to Golden Horseshoe? I guess time will tell.

First they eliminated the Fantasia flavor and now they've made it harder to even get a regular cone or sundae.

I guess if you want some ice cream you can always head out to DTD.

It's the offseason and Winter. Ice cream demand is way down, so supply isn't needed.

When GG reopens hopefully as rumors sugggest it's much faster and the lines will be smaller with more being served.

Also DCA is getting another ice cream location at the coming Ghirardelli Soda fountain in DCA.

MMM. I used to live in SF and the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain is AMAZING. Sugar shock, for sure, but hot chocolate w/ice cream? YUM.

LOL, it was 80 degrees when we were there a few days ago. Plenty of demand for ice cream, the line was huge!

But I think Disney probably decided they needed to go ahead and bite the bullet and do it. It will be an improvement in the long run. Hopefully they come up with temporary ice cream stands or something. They are creative about things like that, so fingers crossed!

We usually get our sundaes at the Golden Horseshoe. It's nice to sit in there between shows and eat yummy ice cream!

Was Fantasia Flavor in DCA? If so, I think that's the place that my whole family and friends loved and they quit doing the flavors except for vanilla and chocolate? They sooo miss that place and were very disappointed.
