Getting an Ex out.

Thanks everyone for your help.

The movers and car carrier came yesterday to pick everything up. That was an ordeal in itself and I don't look forward to the day I need to move.

He moved out today and flew home to be with his family. As we'd agreed, I gave him some money to "buy back" his share of the things we bought together as well as something extra to help him out - at the same time, he returned my house keys. The amount was five figures - basically, all my savings. I was very sad to see him go as I still care for him, but I know we can't be together any more. I really do hope he gets help and becomes a better person.

During the process, I also found out that he was abusing prescription drugs and that he's probably spying on me by accessing my computer files or installing a keystroke recorder, which is why I haven't posted in a while. I'm probably going to have to reformat my PC, just in case.

Now I need to get myself together, and return to the happy Disney loving self I was a few years back.

Let us know if you need a dose of WDW. We'll be down there at Fort Wilderness for a couple weeks. You're welcome to come for a visit and take in some WDW while you're at it. Even if going inside the parks isn't in your budget right now, there's still plenty of free stuff to do at Disney. You can park for free in the overflow parking at Ft. Wilderness, and come on in, as our visitor. You can ride the boats, ride the monorail, swim in the brand new pool, ride horses, walk the trails, go to downtown Disney, etc. Just let us know, if you'd like to visit, just to soak up some of that great Disney atmosphere. It will do wonders for your mindset. :thumbsup2

Wow. What a time you've been through. What price peace, eh? :(

Honestly though, as hard and sad as all of this is, what a life affirming move you've made.

You gave him your life savings why? :scared1:

Let me clear up that I am not broke and I am still very fortunate to have what I have. I own my home and have investments. The money I gave him was from an account I used for savings. My rainy day fund if you will.

I did feel obligated to give him the money because of the things we'd purchased together that I would be keeping. I also had to take into account that he gave everything up when he moved to Florida and although I am not responsible for that, I wanted to be fair.

Thanks. I actually have a small trip lined up for my birthday. Getting the birthday card will help a little and I do need the getaway.

Well it sucks that it took your savings to get rid of him, but congratulations on getting your life back! :woohoo:

Wow. Popping pills and spying on you? You definitely did the right thing.

And remember that we're here for you if you need to talk! :thumbsup2

Thanks. You know everyone is congratulating me and celebrating that he's gone, but it's not that easy. A part of me has died and will never come back. I do hope that he does well from now on in all his endeavors and accepts that he has a problem and gets help.

We understand that. A relationship ending, even if it's one you know isn't heatlhy, is a difficult thing. We're trying to help you to focus on the positive aspects of what's going on. We know that you're going to have bruises from this, but it is also very clear that you've done the right thing. The congratulations are to you for being strong enough to do the right thing, not that your relationship ended. Please understand that. And of course you hope that he does well. Because you're a good person. We however, are in your corner, and want YOU to do well. So we're here for you when you need us.

Mike,

Sorry to hear about all you've been through but you did make it through. I ended a 10-year relationship back in '99 and it was an incredibly rough time. But that which does not kill us, makes us stronger.

As for being concerned about keystroke loggers being installed on your PC, if your ex is no longer in the house there's not much of a risk. And a good antivirus program (and some malware removal programs) will catch software-based keystroke loggers and remove them. If it was a hardware keystroke logger you'd see it attached between your PC and keyboard.

Hang in there.
