Getting a VB Cottage for cash?

I just read somewhere that you cant get a cottage for cash on the weekends.Is this true? Is the only way to get a cottage by points or can I book the cottage through CRO or some other method? Any info is appreciated since I thought I had next years vacation all worked out.

I think it's possible to book a cottage for cash. I've seen wedding parties in the cottages on weekends and I don't think they were members. It may be that the DVC member 25% discount might not be available. I'd call Disney and ask about it.
