I'm a night-grinder and I've fractured all of my molars. Most of them were saved with root-canals and crowns but I have lost 2 of them that were broken down through the root. Extraction isn't super-pleasant but it is fast. If you've ever had a root-canal you know that procedure can take up to a hour, which is very uncomfortable in that position with your mouth open and people hovering over your face. In contrast, an extraction takes only a minute or two once they've got you numbed up.

Healing will depend on whether or not they have to wrestle the tooth out (some people bruise quite easily) and how well you take care of the extraction site. They will give you specific instructions - follow them to the letter. You'll also have recommendations for pain meds; often a combination of Advil and Tylenol now that opioids are to be avoided. Again, follow the schedule for taking them to a tee; don't wait until you feel pain and then try to control it. All in all, you should be fine in about a week, barring the unforseen. Good luck. :flower3:

I had a wisdom tooth pulled a couple of years ago. All of mine came in just fine and I had room, so they were just an extra set of molars. I went to an oral surgeon to have it done and he pulled it with just Novocain. Other than some pulling and tugging, it was relatively easy. I followed all of the after care instructions and it was fine. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.

My son just had a tooth pulled a couple of weeks ago. There was some mild pain and tenderness for about a week. He took a combination of ibuprofen and acetaminophen for a few days. The procedure itself took less than 5 minutes.

I've had to have two teeth pulled in the last couple of years. The procedure itself isn't awful. They numb you up and it's over pretty fast. I would very very definitely go to an oral surgeon to have it done. They do this procedure all the time and are expert at it. For a day or so afterwards, you will need to be on a soft food only diet, and avoid chewing on that side for long after that. Pain for me both times was very manageable with just ibuprofen (800 mg...a big dose....LOL). I was prescribed a narcotic, but both times declined to have it filled. Just wasn't that bad.

This is similar to my experience. I have an excellent dentist (who is retiring this year) and have had a couple of root canals, even that wasn't a big deal. Not pain so much as discomfort sitting there with mouth open.

Last year I had my first tooth pulled and I was terrified. Turns out it was pretty similar to a root canal but didn't take as long. I don't relish the thought of more extractions, but I don't think I'd be as apprehensive next time. Good luck!:)

I had a top tooth removed last week! It was a root canaled tooth I was eating a lolly, I never eat lollies!!!!, and it broke!!! 😭
Because it was a tooth where I had a root canal it was weak and it had to be removed in serval parts I went to an oral surgeon for this, the all op took 40 min didn't feel anything and didn't need pain killers afterwards and it didn't even swelled up! Definitly better and quicker than having a root canal.
