Getting a second job

My SIL drove for uber to make some extra money. She was able to pick the hours she was available each week and said she made about $200 each weekend. She was driving a Taurus and said she could have made more if she had a minivan or SUV that sat more than 3 plus a driver.

I've managed retail (though not Target) and will tell you if you are asked to stay late and don't your hours will be given to someone who is more of a team player. Plus after January 3 available hours to the store are drastically cut and most workers hired during season get none.

How are your kids?

they're doing good, we're making the most of the time we have together and they have been up when I get home at night anyways so I'm still on top of their school work and whats going on. They're both old enough to understand its only 2 weeks.

they did ask me to stay late twice, but I refused and explained I have to get up too early in the morning. They had several call ins the one night and were down to only 2 cashiers and I was leaving at 9:30. I told them no. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. I wont be too upset about it.

If that is most of what you have hit you have been lucky so far.

DH has had several people scream at him over the last few days because the store is out of hot ticket items for Christmas. I can't even count the number of times he has "Ruined Christmas" you know like he has any responsibility for ordering at all.

yeah its been pretty minor so far, nothing I can't handle! The discount has really added up too with me doing all the grocery shopping there and my christmas shopping. So that has come in handy.

Well now that the holiday season is over Target let me know they would no longer need me. I'm not upset about it, it definitely wasn't worth the hassle of having a second job and barely bringing home $100 a week so I'm kind of glad its over with.

I learned a lot about how the public perceives cashiers, or anyone that works in retail really. I had some customers that were downright abusive. It really can ruin your whole day when you're treated like that. For the most part I enjoyed the friendly chats with the customers and kind of liked the mind numbing task of just scanning items and bagging them but there were a few customers that were horrible. I can't explain why anyone thinks its ok to belittle another human being over $4.00. Anyways, I'm glad I gave it a fair try but am also glad its over.

I have been adjunct teaching one class for the last three semesters. Got offered an additional class for this spring, so I will have two plus my fulltime job. It will allow me to have my car paid off in April- a year and a half early! Not a moment too soon either because my husband's car is on its last legs. I feel like my mantra for the next four months is going to be, "Who needs sleep anyway?!"
