Getting a fridge at a value resort?

We are staying at ASMo this summer and I have been pondering renting a fridge. We have no medical conditions nor do I want to do a fridge swap. Do I just tell them at check-in that I'd like one? How does it get delivered? When do I pay for it?

The trip is part of a Grand Gathering that my parents and one of my thoughts was to pay for the rental for them as a thank you. Is this something I can arrange?

You really should tell them ahead of time. It can be put as a notation on your reservation. Those that need fridges for medical reasons will get them first, if their is one available after that, then you will get it for 10.65 a day.

we rented one at pop last year and we told them ahead of time. when we got to the room, the fridge was already there, plugged in and waiting for us. we did have to pay separately for the fridge - it wasn't something they could just tack on to the bill. this was in may '07 so i don't know if that's still true or not.

Just an FYI, we participated in the fridge swap in March, after much coaching and prodding from my DH. It was fun! The fridge was clean, the family before us left it loaded with bottled waters they hadn't needed, and the exchange was easy. It was sure better than the $10/day ASMu would have charged us! Saved us way over $100.

Request it ahead of time. That will make it much easier for the resort to know how many refrigerators they will need to have available.

Say there are twenty fridges on the resort site on the day you check in. Ten go out for medical needs. Nine more go out for people who have already requested them. You are the second person at check in to ask for one.

While you can do it ahead of time, if you choose not to do so, you would just tell the front desk at check-in. It will probably arrive to your room in a matter of minutes. When we did this at Pop, we were amazed at how quickly they delivered it; well before our luggage arrived. We did have to wait for it to cool though, and - it did take up a bit of the floor space in the room. Value rooms aren't set up like the mods. A fridge isn't that big, but floor space is limited in a value. It was okay for us, but it would make avalue room that much tighter if you had four adults in one room.

you might want to consider some of the fridge swaps.....
some of them are free, others are minimal like $10-$15 for the week:thumbsup2

We were back and forth this year between a value and a mod. We also need to get a fridge for water, milk, etc. for the kiddos. After pricing both out and including the price of the fridge in with the value, the price difference ended up only being $220 for 6 days to upgrade to the mod.

Maybe something to think about?

My mom said it was either a moderate or park hoppers. My mom really wanted the fridge, but my bro/SIL really wanted park hoppers. So, my mom said no fridge was ok. I am thinking though, she would lvoe to have one but would never spend the extra $$, kwim? I figured it was a fairly easy way for us to do something nice for them as a thank you for the trip.

Also, are these fridges the same size as the ones in mods?

Those that need fridges for medical reasons will

Would having a fridge for an Autistic child be consdidered medical? Sometimes it is just easier to eat in the room... Although it is not like we need it to keep meds cold etc....

to the best of my knowledge the free fridges are for those that have medications that need to be refrig. We do put in the request ahead of time. Not sure what we would do if we got to the hotel and could not get a refrigerator for my mothers insulin because others had requested them when not absolutely necessary. :)

Also, there are some fridge swaps out there that are either free or cost about $10-$15 for the week. :thumbsup2

Okay, I've read this thread completely now.. So, if I'm reading correctly- even if you request a fridge when you book your reservation and say you want to pay for it- there is no guarantee????? As I said in last post, I have an Autistic child and we REALLY need a fridge to handle some mealtimes like breakfast. I didnt realize that there was no guarantee if you were "paying" for a fridge.. Umm, I may need to re-do reservations again and go back to the Contemp Club level like originally planned.. I just changed to a split stay yesterday Although we tend to like Deluxe, I thought it could be fun to stay at POP for a few days - it looks like a fun place. But w/o a fridge it would be waaaaaay too hard and I may be setting myself up for 2 days of misery especially since it is 4th of July week. I doubt kid could handle food court at breakfast and then have a good day.

My opinion is worth nothing because I have no experience with WDW and refrigerators, but it is hard for me to imagine that they would run out.

But in case they did, could someone run to the food court and buy what is needed and bring it back to the room? That could be a backup plan.

Well, I'm traveling alone with my kids this summer so I would have to leave them in room alone.. But, they are a bit older- not toddlers so it is possible .. How long time-wise are the lines at POP usually during very busy times? I asked for a quiet section away from pool etc - how long of a walk could that be?

I cannot imagine even in the busiest times of the year Disney is going to say you cannot rent a refrigerator from them. Put it on your reservation. If you check in and absolutely need one and cannot possibly make do any other way, I am 99.9% sure Disney will get you what you need.

I understand your concern. But when was the last time you heard of Disney not wanting to make $10 extra per day?

And BTW - if you requested a quiet room away from the pool, you will have a bit of a walk. And the food court has some long lines when it's busy.

Well, I'm probably ok. I read the email reservation confirmation that I received today.. And on the bottom- it states "refrigerator guaranteed." I will print that and show if any problems...

If you are driving down, it may be more economical to buy your own fridge. We did last year. I bought one for $60 at Walmart. It was cheaper than renting one for nine days. We have gotten more use out of it besides WDW. I use it in my office and camping as well. Just a thought.......

I am driving but from Arizona.. We will only be at POP 3 days.. I don't want to have a frdige to deal with for the entire 6 week road trip... Disney is the only hotel that it seems to be a problem getting fridges. We tend to stay at La Quinta's and Holiday Inn Express . They always have fridges...

The food court at POP (while a decent selection) was very loud and crowded (Oct 2006). It was very hard to find seating at times and a bit overwhelming for our group of kids (ages 5, 2 1/2, and other family ages 2 yo and 9 mos).

As autism spans a range, just thought I'd point this out. POR and other moderates are quieter with a bit more space in the food court.

At POP, you will probably want the upgraded room location (very easy for someone else to then run to the food court to pick up food for you).

Yes, that is what I'm thinking so why I want a fridge.. We can eat breakfast in room then with yougurts, brekfast cereal, milk, juice etc that I am packing. I have ADR's at other places for eating that I know the kids like, enjoy and handle well. I always book meals at "off-times" as well. I realize tghat POP is probably not ideal for us but we wanted to try for 2 nights just to see what it is like :ie the icons etc.... We will be staying the 1st 2 nights at the Contemp. Concierge so we can take advantage of the club lounge for breakfast and afternoon/evening snacks... That is another reason that I have requested "quiet" area please- hopefully will be less overwheleming.. When people say "a bit of walk"- from what is referred? The dining area or ? We will have a car so we will not use the buses... What is the parking lot like there? Is there an area that is nearer parking?
