Getting a 2 Bedroom at BWV during Peak Time

Okay, want to get your experience. We are close to purchasing a resale at HHI... just got back from a great stay there and would like to make it a tradition. We have been to WDW numerous times, but are taking a break for a year or two. Big thing for my wife is that she loves the Boardwalk Resort and whenever we did decide to do WDW with DCV points, that is where we would want to stay, and we would need a 2 bedroom during a peak travel season (e.g., week after Easter, week after Christmas, early summer) as we have 4 school age children. Advance planning is not an issue -we always plan far, far in advance.

So, question is: what are the odds of disappointment if we were to be HHI home members and every third year or so wanted to book a 2 BR at BWV during a peak week, assuming we always tried to book right at the opening of the 7 month window?

If the answer is that the odds of disappointment are quite high, would it make sense to buy at BWV and try to get Hilton Head during week after Easter or first couple weeks of June?? I would tend not to want to do that, since we would plan to spend many more stays at HHI.

I appreciate the advice of anyone with experience here!

Thanks.

Your best bet is to buy two resorts. Anytime you travel during peak times BWV or HHI have a chance of not being available seven months out. New Years Eve at BW sold out at eleven months this year.

If you buy 2 resorts and you only plan to do WDW every 3 years, you would only need to buy ⅓ the number of points that is required for your room at BWV. You would then use 1 year's banked points, 1 year's current use year points, and 1 year's borrowed points to make the reservation. If you only want to buy 1 resort, I would buy BWV. With a little flexibility you might have a better shot at getting a reservation at HHI at 7 months than getting a 2 bedroom at BWV during peak times at BWV. (We are going for a week in a 2 bedroom at HHI May 24 - 31, and I got that at 7 months. We are waitlisted for Dec. 28, 29, 30 at BWV, and I called just a few days after the 11 month window.)

Thanks for the responses. I was thinking of buying at both resorts... maybe we'll start with HHI and buy some points at BWI next year.

By the way Jean, I think you will really like the HHI resort. Since we just got back on Saturday, let me know if you have any questions!

I agree with the replies so far. You should buy at both resorts. Look at the point charts and decided how many points you will need at each resort for a stay. Look at the most expensive stay.

Example:
If you need 200 points for your stay at HHI each year, you would purchase 2/3 that number of points. So the number would be around 134. This will give you 2 trips every three years. Then take the full number of points for a trip to BWV and buy a third of the total. So if the amount needed per trip is 200, then you will need about 67 points. This will give you a trip to BWV every three years. Then by banking and borrowing you will have enough points for all your stays.

Now the problem is finding contracts that have close to the right number of points.

Hieatt,
Did you visit Beaufort by any chance? We expect to spend most of the week at HH, but we are considering a side trip to Savannah and/or Beaufort. Next time I want to see Charleston, but I think we will just fly into Charleston and get a room there for a couple of nights, then head to HHI. From what I have read so far on these boards, HH has lots of activities. That will be especially fun for the 5 year old who will be with us.
P.S. Good luck on your point-buying decision!
