Heading to the Grand Californian in November and trying to figure out the best way to get to and from the airport. Looked at a few shuttles or busses but I am thinking a cab would be best. Arriving Sunday before Thanksgiving around 5pm. Need to be back at the airport on Thanksgiving day for a 6:45 AM flight. There will be four adults.

Any suggestions?

Taxi definitely! They have taxi vans if you have extra luggage too. Costs about $40+ tip each way

Thanks!! That was my thought, just wanted to be sure I was on the right track. We are packing light, just carry ons. Visiting our son doing the college program :)

We used Yellow cab for transport to and from SNA and the GC in January.
Yellow cab has a flat rate for Disney. I think it was around $35 to $40.

One thing I did before we got in the cab was to CONFIRM it would be a flat rate.

We have used a variety of shuttle services in the past and Yellow Cab was the least expensive and easiest by far!

At the SNA airport they are lined up right out of the baggage area.
Same for at the GC, there are cabs right out front. A CM will wave one over for you.

I think we paid $20 for a ride over to Medieval Times Dinner.

You can check with the Bellman for a information page on YellowCab. It has location and rates listed.

There are car style cabs and mini-van cabs. We had a mini-van each time.

I third the suggestion of a taxi. We took one Sunday from Hojo to SNA for 2 adults, 2 kids, large stroller, large suitcase, and assorted smaller ones. Cost was about $37. Much less than the shuttle we originally looked at.

Using SuperShuttle will cost you $28 each way plus tip if you reserve ahead online (you can prepay tip, which is nice). Use coupon code UYR59 and make a separate res. for each person to get the best discount. It will cost $7 pp. A taxi is nice but the rates I get from the airport to the hotel have fluctuated wildly, including the "guaranteed" flat rate. I've paid between $40 and $48, not counting tip, with one trip coming in at $38. Split between 4 people it's probably worth it. With a family, the SS savings can be a factor.

When you're at the hotel, go to the Guest Services desk (not Reservation Desk) and request a flat-rate taxi voucher. The rate is $32 plus tip. Use that for your return trip--so convenient to just walk out the door of the Grand and get in the taxi. You don't have to phone ahead for one. These vouchers are available at the DLR hotels for hotel guests.

We did the taxi earlier this month and it was great. It's such a quick trip. Even though people said this on the DIS before, I still wasn't sure until I did it! Even IF the taxi is a bit more money in the end (and it may not be), I think it's quicker. Only one party's luggage to load and unload, and only one hotel to stop at!:thumbsup2

Just do it!

I second, third or is it fourth the taxi option.

our family of 3 adults and one child with luggage and a collapsible wheelchair all fit no problem. It was about 40-45$ with tip for us. Super easy and convenient, no waiting around for a shuttle and it took 20 minutes or so to the hotel and it felt like a few minutes less ( due to traffic??? ) back to the airport. Extremely easy. Don't worry about it and do it!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I will certainly get the voucher at guest services as well. Can't wait to see our DS and enjoy a few days in California!

Just to clarify: at the airport, verify the flat rate amount to the Grand Califorian - right?

Upon leaving the Grand CA, buy the flat rate voucher at Guest Services?

And the tip is not included, so how much do you tip? (I never use a taxi!)

Thanks!

First--correct. Verify the flat rate to the hotel.

Second, get the voucher during your stay, when you have some spare time (and you don't have to buy it, it's free for hotel guests). I like to have it ready to go; sometimes they have to dig around to find one.

BTW, there is no flat rate from hotel to airport, just airport to hotel unless you have a voucher.

I tip between 15-20%, so roughly $6-8.

We always used the super shuttle and paid no more than $10pp, but if you can get a taxi for about that same amount, by all means, use it instead! Especially if you don't want to stop anywhere else..
