I got mine today. I've never had one before, but with the pandemic threat I thought I might as well try to keep healthy from the standard flu so if I have to worry about avian flu, I can fight it off.

Won't be getting one. If you're young and healthy, you might as well not even bother just because of the sheer number of viruses that cause influenza. I'll let my shot go to someone who really needs it.

No offense to the above poster.

Tried to make an appointment with my primary dr. and they said he is already out of flu shots and still has a list a mile long. I am diabetic so I really need to find a place to get this. :flower:

Just to add, I work in a hospital, so they suggested we get them.

Good enough reason. My mother is a physician, and she'd be pretty annoyed if I found a way to get one. :flower:

I just see a problem though with people trying to get them who don't really need them making the list a mile long for diabetics, the elderly, etc.

Can't get them around here until sometime in November. The shots right now are all going to seniors and those with illnesses. Should add that my healthy 6 y/o DD got the shot already. Her ped feels all kids should have it and makes sure all his patients do. My DH also got it because he's diabetic. I read that Target will begin giving the shots out to anyone with $25 after October 24. I'll be sure and get there.

I haven't, but my son did..not sure why--he did have a small heart procedure done last week(catheterization to put a device in to close a hole in his heart)..but that didn't-and won't-cause him any ill effects.
Maybe they just wanted to make sure he didn't get sick before the proceudre or right after?
Not sure, but I accepted it for him anyway.

We did. My husband's dr. wants the whole family to have it as he's immunosuppressed. That's not a reason that's acceptable for high risk though, (I guess they just didn't think about it, as they do give for those who are caretakers of babies under 6 months) so we have to look early on at the health fairs before the restrictions. Little one has to wait for his dr.'s batch in November.

I'm a teacher, so they also get them for us, but the health fair came before the district vaccine supply this year!

Nope, and we don't get them either. The only time I've been seriously ill with the flu was right after the two flu shots I did have.

We take a homeopathic remedy "O" once a month during flu season for the last 8 years and have yet to get sick.

I got mine Tuesday. I get them every year since I'm an asthmatic. I have yet to get the flu when I've gotten a shot. I remember getting the flu before I would get the shot....it was beyond awful. I've never forgotten that asthma and flu don't mix. DH refuses to get one.

If you are looking for a flu shot, check this website: www.findaflushot.com They are only doing high risk people until the 24th of October. After that, they'll open it up.

I got mine today when I was at the dr with ds....I was surprised that the nurse told me that they had an abundant supply. I didnt get one last year as the supply was so low, but I care for my frail 86 yr old mom and I sure dont need to get sick or bring this bug around her. I work in a school so I am exposed to everything.

DH and I hope to get ours next week. We'd rather be safe than sorry.
Knock on wood, it's been years since we caught any type of flu. :goodvibes

Never had one and haven't had the flu since I was in my early 20's (over 20 years ago)

I will get one when my Mom gets one. If she doesn't feel it's necessary then niether do I. Mom works in the ER, has had 2 bouts with cancer and has had a heart attack. She also just had emergency gallbladder surgery in April. She says that a lot of the folks that work in the ER don't get them.

I had mine at least a week ago. Working in health care, we're all "encouraged" to get a shot whether or not directly working with the patients.

will get mine soon, as a nurse on the front lines, I need all the help I can get. I hate being sick!

Yes, I got mine a few weeks ago. I never had one before this year, but some health issues make my Dr think it is a good idea for me.
