Feel free to use the graphic I made below!

Great job! Can you make it a little smaller for those of us with lots of stuff in our sigs, so we won't get in trouble? I like it!

You better get ready with those graphics.

Disney is in play. Other bidders will probably appear! Also, an investment firm could always decide the parts are worth more then the whole......

Good Luck. I hope Roy is happy!

Okay..I'm not asking for a business 101 course, but how can one company just takeover another company? I have never understood how you can buy a company that's never been put up for sale. I assume it has something to do with shareholders but don't know for sure.

TIA for any light you can shed into this brain of mine.

I love it! I've already got a copy of it taped to the back window in my car. :teeth:

if you're blaming Roy for the comcast venture..it's not his fault.....

Comcast said a year ago that they were going to aquire a company like Disney..I also heard that the guy doing all the talking for comcast, who was a former Disney exec...was squeezed out by Eisner..

could it be a revenge factor....???

A publically held company is "owned" buy stock. Say, they have 100 shares total. If one person owned 51 shares, they would be the majority holder. However, most publically held companies do not have one major owner (51%+) of the stock. So xxx company can go around buying up all the shares till s/he gets to 51+% thus making him the majority owner.

It's called a "hostile" takeover.

Then we need to buy more Disney stock! If we own it, then Comcast (boo-hiss) can't buy it.

This is the same thing that happened to the company DH just left after 11-1/2 years. His job was a dream job, the kind that you plan on retiring from, until...

they were taken over by Pfizer (Warner Lambert co-produced a drug with them that they wanted all to themselves) the same way it may happen to Disney. They had to keep them for a minimum of 2 years and then sold his company because it didn't fit with the pharmacutical business.

Needless to say the company that bought them had to borrow half of the purchase price to pay for them and this was "approved" by the government. They then stopped most of the production at the plant, by the way they are their "world headquarters" and started doing more production in China. Also, layoffs, layoffs, layoffs.

OT was stopped and instead of having DH work on Saturdays to do work he couldn't stop production for (he always went in on Saturdays, always something to do) they paid THREE times what they would have for his overtime pay to have an outside contractor come in.

I too have Comcast, but they bought out my old cable company AT & T. It's only been about a year but my cable bill went up another $7 the beginning of the year and I'm waiting for them to start taking away channels that they do not offer to the other areas they had the cable business for for years and years. My MIL has had them for a long time and has alot less channels than me and pays more $$$. It is very scary to think of what this company can do to Disney. I really hope this does not happen.

I just looked at my local paper and they had a Disney/Comcast cartoon in the opinion section. Wish I could post it, but I'll tell you about it instead.

Backround shows the Castle and the front is a family of 3 at the podium for Space Mountain with a CM behind it. Next to her is a CLOSED sign. In the bubble it says "Sorry, Space Mountain is broken. But if you can wait a COMCAST technician will be here Tuesday between 10am and 5." :scared1: :scared:

Has this deal gone through??????????

I am VERY afraid of how a cable company would treat the parks..:(

Thanks Kim, I assumed it had something to do with stock holdings. I appreciate you taking the time to explain it. :)
