Get in Shape & Lose Weight for August 2014 Group

Aw, man. So discouraged... I just went for a long walk and thought I'd really pushed it then mapped it on google maps and it was only 2 miles. There was a time not too long ago that I'd work out in the morning and walk at lunch bike at night. I don't know how I turned into such a slug.

Don't be discouraged! You did something good for yourself! You moved from where you are now to something better. I know it's hard. I'm in the same boat. I remember how I was before I hurt my knee. Before that, it was before I had my car accident. Before that it was before I had my kids.. before I worked full time, before I went to college.. I was driving myself crazy! Anything we do that's better than yesterday is positive.

How do you guys feel about starting some kind of contract or pledge or whatever? Here are some thoughts to get started. Please let me know what you think.

  • If I do any type of activity, I will see it as a positive thing.
  • Food is not my enemy. I need to give my body what it needs to be the best it can be.
  • I will try to do more for myself today than I did yesterday.
  • I will give myself permission not to be perfect.
  • I will take a short break if my body and/or mind really needs it. When I'm able, I will start up again without feelings of guilt.
  • I will do something good for myself/have fun/relieve stress.
  • ...
 
.. Or it could be our code, like in Pirates of the Caribbean. More a set of guidelines than actual rules. :)

I know, eyes on the prize. "Get in good enough shape in 4 months to walk 10 miles a day" is more realistic than "become my younger self again."

I always look back at my younger self and think, "I am sooooo glad I am no longer that person!" Just because that person ran 10mi a day does not mean she is in anyway better than I am now.

Today I took all the kids outside and we ran around, played fetch with the dog, checked out our trees we planted 2 years ago, rearranged some snow. It wasn't a work-out, but it was good for the soul. :littleangel:

My check-in:

Mostly good exercise week. I worked out every day. I alternate running with Couch to 5k with walking on the treadmill at a 5% incline. Yesterday was to be a running day, but shin pain cut that short. I still walked though. And today I did the running workout with no pain. I even finished with a little speed burst!

Also did planks six out of seven days. And I did crunches every day and arm strength exercises 4 days. So overall good minus a mild injury sideline.

Eating was not as good as other recent weeks but was not awful. Overall I had a one pound loss, and I can live with that. Disney 5k, here I come. ;)
 
I just need to say that i have an very unhealthy love for popcorn with franks hot sauce on it. I do get the 94% fat free popcorn so it makes me feel a little bit better.popcorn::

Popcorn is my go to smart snack- much better than what I REALLY want to be eating and still feels like a treat...I like the red hot idea!

I like the pirate code! Lol. Too much junk food last night and today! Still I lost .5 pounds. Better down than up, right? This week I will add to my goal of walking 2 miles on days I am not taking a Zumba class. I will add target of 25 grams of fiber and drinking a 16 oz glass of water first thing in the morning. I just read that these are two goals that can help you stay full through the day.

Trust me, it sounded better than it was. ::yes:: Fetch involved not moving at all, and chasing the kids involved them running like mad, and me mostly just turning in a circle while holding the baby.

It was only his second time outside (for more than the time it takes to go from building to car and vice versa). The two of us don't move so fast.

I used to love popcorn! It's been 3 years since I had any - strictly corn free in our home b/c our youngest two have allergies/sensitivities. So you really should have some for me, guilt free b/c it's considered a healthy snack, if not slathered in butter/oil and salt.
 
So my goal for this week is to continue exercising for 6 days (running for 3, walking for 3) with one break day.

I will also continue to eat healthy and keep track of what and how much I'm putting into my body.


So excited! To celebrate meeting my half way to a 5K goal I bought myself new running shoes. Went to a shop that trains their staff to actually fit you to the best shoe for your foot. No prices are displayed and I paid more then I ever have for a pair of shoes but it wasn't too bad. I also got a new sports bra which is one of the hardest items for me to find. (Stupid big ****s that bounce all over the place :upsidedow)
