Get friends to sign up for Rapid Rewards on SW, do they have to be 18?

I received an e-mail from SW saying if you got friends to sign up for Rapid Rewards and used the number on the e-mail you got 500 points added to your account. My question is does anyone know if the person needs to be over 18? I can't find where it says. I was just wondering if I could sign my son, who is 17, up for it? I had my older son, 20, sign up for it.

Thanks for any help.

My kids have had RR accounts from the time that they were in their early teens. No problems at all.

Odd - both my kids are RR members.

I got them their own accounts the first Southwest flight they took. Much easier to keep track of things.

I'm pretty sure that it isn't the age that causes accounts not to generate the points; it is the address. I believe that if the "friend" who signs up lives in the same home that you do, it doesn't count for referral. Also, I believe that you cannot use the same email address for two different accounts, so if you want to sign your child up for emails, use a different email address from the one that you used on your own account info.

You can certainly sign up any family member for SWA Rapid Rewards membership (and should, if they fly with you, because they can be officially age-verified on the account, which will prevent most TSA issues about who they are.)

I just signed up my DS (17) it did create an account. I didn't see anywhere in the small print on the e-mail that I received that said they can not have the same mailing address. I also signed up my older DS and mom (who also live in the same house). We all have different e-mails but the same mailing address. I guess I will just have to wait and see if I get the points or not. I guess I'm not out anything if I don't get them. It was worth a try.

Has anyone received the points for people who also lived in the same house?

My DS has had a RR account since he was 2 and we've had no difficulties with it. They weren't offering referral points when I signed him up but he has gotten his earned rewards just like us, same address and everything. I did open an email for him way back when, so that could have been why it worked, too.
