Get away weeks

Have there been any get away weeks available lately?

I was telling a friend IRL about them but the only way I know how to find them is through this site! I bought 3 weeks last year and still have 2 I can use before Dec. of '09.

I find that if you are looking for off season weeks, inventory is still ok, especially if you can settle for a one bedroom unit. But for prime weeks, the inventory is non existent.
IMHO, each year, the inventory is less and less.

Well, they are fine with going during off weeks. I am just trying to figure out how they can even GET get away weeks and if they have been offered lately.

Dawn, I believe you go to getawayweeks.com and there is a search tool. You put in the area you are interested in from the scroll down and then the time of year you are interested in. I found that they seem to give you availabe times for the month you are interested in. I am looking for Orlando in Jan, but so far no luck. If you really have some time to look you can put in a broad area like East Coast and the time frame and they will list everything. If we cant get our time we will take something else. I think the getaway weeks are only offer in Nov, Dec - for the cheap price.

now you can get home away - those are nice. but don't like what they have to look at - it does not tell you the unit size. Only when you are willing to book will you know the unit size.

oh for the getawayweeks the RCI person I talked too - say yes they will be offer this year end too.

the home away you have to pay $195 + $20 +bid.

for the getaway you only have to pay $20 + set price. (that is unless they change the rules again)

oh Dawn - you will appreciate. I brought two last year one for me and one for my brother - well he is allowing his son (at college) to use it. Now my nephew (same person) is asking for another one. Told him sorry he has to wait.

at $175 + $20 = $195 for a week in a condo - he is definitely interested. told him no guaranteeds. My brother was hoping they would go to Orlando - but we left the choice up to them. They picked North carolina in dec - going skiing.

be sure to make your friend understands that not all timeshares are created equal. they were going for the 3-bedroom - because she had stayed in once - made sure they read the recent reviews and surprise they changed their minds...

Not meaning to hijack your thread DawnM, but I'm concerned about availability and unit size also. I agree, this new system seems much riskier with regard to what you're getting. Anybody have experience with the offerings from Silver Lake specifically? Per the SL website, they have units that only sleep 2. I don't mind a small 1-bdrm, but we have 4 so the units that sleep only 2 won't work for us. I haven't bid/won an auction yet, but I'm hesitant to try...

your question - the disclosures from RCI - doesn't mention any rooms that only sleeps 2 for silver lake. So SL would be in disagreement with its contract with RCI if this happened.

looking at RCI - it appears that only the Silver Lake Points - has the hotel rooms. pretty sure even with the new system - they have to be able to tell one from the other.

if possible you only want a full kitchen.

Thank you very much, Spicey! We're looking at going the week after Thanksgiving. I'm not really picky about the unit, as long as it's clean and sleeps 4...I know SL has older and newer units. Can you tell me why I should be concerned about the kitchen size? Is there something wrong with the units with smaller kitchens? We're driving and can pack extra utensils, etc. if they aren't particularly well stocked. Thanks again--you are always a great source of info on this board!!
