Oh wow! You were right to stand your ground! No room until 9:00 pm is crazy! I can only imaging standing there, wet from the pool not knowing what was going on, tired from a day of travel. You're awesome because if that had been me, I would have cried!
If your DD is anything like mine was at that age, putting her down in a temporary room just to have to wake her up and move to another room would be a nightmare. No fun for anyone involved!
I'm glad they really made up for it though! That is AMAZING customer service! They turned a potentially horrible experience into one where you felt "pixie dusted". So, so cool! We had an issue with the Magical Express (one that was actually MY fault) and they totally went above and beyond. That is why we keep going back! Right?!
And Happy Mother's Day to you!!
Wow...I would have been super annoyed too!! Glad it finally all worked out ok!! And wow...what fun to have so many FP's!!! I can't imagine!!!
Joining in, can't wait to read all about your trip!
Joining in can't wait to read more!
Oh wow, that's amazing pixie dust! Following along to hear the rest!
Happy Mother's Day to you too!
Glad you had a good flight with DD, flying with an baby can always be stressful! It's such a relief when it all goes smoothly.
Sorry you had issues checking in, I would not have been happy either, with a baby and them telling me my room wouldn't be ready until 9:00...no way Jose! Glad they were able to get it solved and you got theme park view and lots of extra FP's to boot! Woo hoo!Looking foward to hearing how you liked the Contemporary
Following along. Congrats on all the pixie dust you got on your first day.![]()
You were definitely totally in the right to ask to speak to the manager. The room is supposed to be ready by 3, and if it wasn't ready until 9, that is 6 hours - or a quarter of a day you were paying for that you wouldn't be able to be in the room. Glad the manager more than made up for it though - I would have expected something for the trouble but all three of the FP, and dinner, and comping 1 night of the room really is wonderful and I am sure turned around your mood
I get why you would be annoyed by the whole room thing. It's one thing as a group of adults at a hotel, but traveling with an infant is tough enough without having a room available on a reasonable schedule. Good for you that they treated you so well.
Day 1 Part 3 - Dinner
Unfortunately changing my room and getting our magic bands reprogramed took another 15-20 minutes. Once this was solved DH and I went upstairs, we bathed DD, DH showered and then went down to hang with his parents (still no room!). Our bags got delivered shortly after we bathed DD which was great; I give MDE an A+ for this! My Dad also dropped off all of DD’s other supplies that he drove up with him. After DD and DH went down for dinner I showered and got dressed for dinner. I headed down a few minutes before 6:45 they were pushing DD around in her stroller and she was asleep. I stopped by the front desk and asked them to please bring the pack and play (crib) up to the room, and made sure they had the right room number. We checked into The Wave and asked if we could please bring the stroller in since DD was asleep. The woman gave me an odd look and then agreed. If she wasn’t sleeping I wouldn’t have asked.
So I am really sorry but I didn’t take pictures of any food all trip, nada, nothing, so you will just need to take my word for it. We shared some apps (sampler for 2, the meat and cheese plate, and then bacon and eggs) all very good. I got the gnocchi which was very good as well. We had some coffee but no desert tonight. I shared a bottle of wine with my Dad and in-laws, DH and my sisters BF had beer, my sister had a mixed drink. Dinner was covered minus alcohol and tip. Right before desert DD woke up, she loved being passed around! During dinner I think around 8ish? Maybe a little before or after my in-laws got a text that their room was ready, finally!
Then I realized I didn’t have a pen or marker for DD’s autograph frame! So my sis, DD and I went on a mission to find a pen/marker. We went to the shops but they only had pens I really sharpie. My sister asked the cashier if they had anything like that. The cashier asked for what, explain a sharpie will bleed through the autograph pages. We explained it was a frame/card stock. She said she would check, and she came back with a thin tip sharpie (it turned out to be perfect!). However it was the stores! Not even for sale, and she gave it to us! Pixie dust number three (if you are counting). My sister got her name and her mangers name so we could call and tell them how wonderful she was.
Now that we had the perfect pen in hand (we also purchased one as a backup) we met up with everyone else. We had brought the umbrella stroller with us but we also rented a city mini so we had a bigger, (better??) stroller for the few days. My husband had picked it up while we were looking for a pen! It was around 9 now, so we headed up to the rooms. But the pack and play had not arrived! UGH I am really over this. I called down and she said it would be up as soon as possible, I asked what that meant and she said with in a half hour. I explained to her that I had requested it before dinner and that we had check in issues and to please have it come up ASAP. About 15 minutes later it arrived, but now DD was comfy in the bed and wanted nothing to do it with it.
I now know or now remember that when you call down it doesn’t go to the front desk, is that true for future reference?

Pixie Dust Received 3 (Theme Park View, Check in compensation, Sharpie!)
Joining! That's crazy though, I've never not had a room be ready at check in time! I'm glad that they explained what the issue was. Understanding is one of the main things, and often I feel like people are afraid to explain what's really going on. I'm glad that in the end the manager was able to resolve things for you.
Glad your dinner turned out well and everyone eventually had a place to sleep. Definitely found more often then not it takes longer than one would think to get a pack-n-play and you were at a disadvantage with your room not being ready on time
yeah for more pixie dust with the pen!
It's too bad you continue to have to deal with problems but at least you're getting pixie dust to balance it out. Sounds like dinner was good. We enjoyed the Wave when we visited a couple years ago.
You are correct - if you hit the front desk button, you likely are getting someone in Des Moines.
You handled the issues with the room very well, and they did a good job compensating you. Those extra FP are like gold!
Boo for troubles, but yay for pixie dust!![]()
