My husband cracks me up.
I just saw an ad looking for Gestational Surrogates and apparently they pay around $18,000 for it.
I shot him an email that said "Wow, do you know they pay $18,000 for Gestational Surrogates?"
His reply? "Don't even think about it"
It made me laugh but then I started thinking. I don't think I could ever do it. I couldn't carry to term a baby that I wasn't going to keep. Especially since my last C-Section was so painful. I couldn't go through that pain again and not have anyone to show for it.
What do you think? Would that sort of money make you think twice? Would you ever consider it?

I don't know. If I did consider it, it probably would be less about the money and more about helping someone...like I would consider it for a sister, friend, relative, etc, and I wouldn't take money for it.

oh, I thought it said intestinal.

I would do it for a close friend or family member - if the DNA was not mine. I'd consider it like baby sitting.

I think doing it just for the money is just downright greedy. However, I would do it to help out a close friend or family member without expecting payment.

Yeah..an Intestinal Surrogette.......

Oh I would love to have one. I have colitis and sometimes it can be downright painful........ :teeth:

As for the Gestational Surrogate I love the idea of helping someone out but Im not sure I could part with the baby in the end. Though these days they use donor eggs so the baby isnt related to the mom, still it would be hard. I think that woman who can do it are doing a great thing by helping out others.

The DNA isn't yours with the surrogate program. You are an incubator and getting paid for it.
I'm not even sure I could do it for a friend. My sister, absolutely 100% and for sure. Both my pregnancies were easy peasy. I flew through the 9 months with no morning sickness, no cramps, no weird cravings, no bedrest, no high blood pressure (always 110/70). If it weren't for my huge tummy, I wouldn't have known I was pregnant. I think I'd make an amazing surrogate but I just couldn't do it. Knowing I was doing it for cash would make the whole thing feel really cheap and I think it would detract for me.

i would do it in a heartbeat. since my dh and i have had 15 years of fertility problems (his problems), i can sympathize with others who are going through it. luckily, we were graced by god and the military with being able to have an ivf icsi in 1999, and didnt have to pay a penny for it. as far as the money, yes, i would want some sort of payment if it werent a friend or family member. my dsis had a hysterectomy at 30. i have always told her that i would donate my eggs and have one for her. we've talked about that off and on for probably 7 or 8 years now. (unfortunately her dh isnt into the idea of kids, and she's getting used to the idea. her dh DOES have an 18 year old daughter from a previous marriage, so she doesnt feel childless). anyway, thats my take on it, and my husband has said before he would support me in whatever i did on that issue. but well, now i'm 37, the eggs are starting to shrivel.................... so i dont think i'll get the opportunity anyway.

I would love to for my sister because she is diabetic, and would probably never recover from a pregnancy. She is not in control and has several problems. She has Juvenile Diabetes and has been trying to control it since she was 21. My DH is very much against it, because of the off chance it could be life threatening for me and I have kids to think about. My sister maintains she would rather be an aunt. She sees my kids almost as much as she would see her own anyway.

Just some random donor? Nope, it is not worth risking my kids losing me.
