I am so excited! We have finally booked our first AbD!!! Going to Germany, July 17-25. Please add me to that meet thread.

Congrats on booking your first ABD! You're going to love it! Just be aware -- they are highly addictive! It likely won't be your last! ;)

I've added you to the Roll Call on the first post of the Meets thread.

Sayhello

I am so excited! We have finally booked our first AbD!!! Going to Germany, July 17-25. Please add me to that meet thread. dde01 We have 3 kids; two boys who will be 13 and 11, and a daughter who will be 7. This was her pick - she wants to see castles.

How long is your flight? Really want to take my 7 year old daughter on this trip, but worried about how she will handle the 10 -12 hour flight :(

Thank you, sayhello!

As for the flight - she has flown from SC to HI (2 summers ago, Aulani, age 4), SC to Vancouver (last summer, DCL Alaskan cruise, age 5), and SC to CA (this summer, DL, age 6)! Her brothers are harder - both have ADD. :)
The flights aren't so bad if you have things to keep them occupied. She loves to draw, so I have fresh art supplies. And the iPad loaded with movies.
I think it depends on the child. And the parents. :)

The fight(s) are at night so I hope they will sleep. Check to see if the plane you are to fly has individual entertainment. We did a trip to Europe one time without any TV screens and it makes it a LONG trip. From JFK to Frankfurt, where you will be met, is about 7 hours 45 minutes. We just did this trip this past June and your family will love it. Really captures the romantic middle ages of Knights and Ladies. The nights where you sleep in a real castles are just remarkable. I am jealous....:thumbsup2:)

We did the Central Europe trip this summer and had the 10 - 12 hour flight (plus a 9 hour delay at the airport on the way out). My kids are 11 and 9 and I was really worried about the flights. They have done the 5 hour flights to Orlando and Hawaii but nothing this long since they were toddlers (and they don't remember that). The flights even with the delay turned out to be fine. We did not have individual TV screens but they were really content the whole time even my 11 year old son who cannot sit still. They watched the movie on the plane's screen, watched things on their Ipads/Kindle, read, colored etc. The jet lag was more of an issue for us, but it was certainly something we all dealt with and enjoyed the trip.

We adored Germany last year! The castles were lovely, the food fantastic! Felt very immersed in the culture! Only wish we had more time in Munich! Next time! :-)

Thank you Woodview, we have a private guide for Berlin to Heidelburg i am not sure what hotels they have us staying in yet, how expensive is the food there?

The trick is to go Half board at the Hotels . This way your Dinner / evening meal is included.

Remember to Order a " Carafe " of local wine rather than ordering " A Glass " of wine.

Order Local Beer " Draught " rather than Bottled .

Eating out for dinner costs ...... well 3 to 4 courses cost from € 25 per person BUT that depends

what you wish to eat AND how much you are willing to pay.

...................

A " Continental " breakfast is usually a selection of cold meats & cheese with bread rolls & cereal ( Corn Flakes & Rice Krispies )

A Buffet breakfast has Hot food as well .

We went to Germany last August and absolutely loved the trip. We spent a couple pre-days in Berlin and really enjoyed the time there. We stayed at the Radisson Blu in a "business class" room that had an AMAZING view of the cathedral and river, and included a full hot breakfast buffet (Berlin's hotel prices were so reasonable, we splurged for the upgraded room). We also spent a couple extra days in Munich and I'm so glad we did. We went to Schloss Nymphemburg which was very pretty, did a tour of the BMW factory and Allianz Arena (hubby is a huge soccer fan) and also hit Hofbrauhaus and the Chinesischer Turm (Chinese tower) beer garden which my daughter loved since there was a playscape and lots of kids running around outside. We stayed at the Motel One in Munich (near Sendlinger Tor) - it was very clean and nice and only $100/night! The location was great and there were lots of bakeries/Starbucks nearby for breakfast.

It's one of Disney's best trips - you'll love it!
