The Germany tour looks especially inviting for kids. With the castles, characters, etc. the kids should be well occupied, and with the beergarten the grownups, too, will be busy.

Has anybody done this tour? Was it as great as it sounds?

I think it looks great too. We are planning to do an ABD trip in 2009. We have watched the DVD, we have looked through the glossy brochure and I have carefully read over each itinerary. My DS really wants to do the Viva Italia trip and my DD really wants to do the Germany trip. This is going to be such a difficult decision - My DH and I think that they all look wonderful. There seems to be a lot of excitement about the Viva Italia trip. I would love to read a review for the Once Upon a Fairytale trip. My concern with the second trip is that I want to make sure that we are seeing a lot of history and not just a lot of sugary destinations.

I hope that you don't mind me butting into your thread! I looked at the itinerary and would be happy to share some opinion. Some of the most popular destinations with American visitors are listed - Heidelberg, Rothenburg o.d. Tauber, Neuschwanstein, and Munich. I have been to all four sometimes many times in my life!

My feeling was some good, some interesting choices. A few of the smaller towns and tours I think are to appeal to families - the Steiff visit, and the Brezel making for instance.

Hotel choice of Kempinski in Munich was good to see.

But I see that they spend quite a bit of time in two very American touristy towns - Heidelberg and Rothenburg o.d. Tauber, yet very little time in Munich. I don't mind a 1/2 day in Heidelberg, and Rothenburg needs a 1/2 day if not more when it is overflowing with tourists, but sad to see that they somewhat short changed Munich.

Again, sorry to butt into your thread! :)

All the more reason to add an extra day or two in Munich after the tour is over. :thumbsup2

We spent a week in Garmisch when our dd was 6. We took a side trip to see the castle at Neuschwanstein, which was fantastic. Something for all ages.

We spent a day in Munich as well, and I must say that while the adults loved it, it was a little overwhelming for the 6yo. It is a big, busy city!

Ours was mainly a ski trip and to visit friends, so we didn't do much touring. I have to say the ABD plan looks like one that would have really worked for our family had we not already obligated our time.

I'll be going on the 6/19 booking. I've been to all the places already also, but can't wait to go back.

Sorry, I initially had the wrong date.

It is June 19th. Duh !!!! - hope I don't miss my flight. :scared1:

Yes, only 8 nights for such a far away destination! I would feel better about a 12 night trip for this type of thing. I suppose we'd be likely to extend our stay and explore Europe more if/when we get around to doing this!!!
