Hi, all! I haven't spent a whole lot of time exploring the German EPCOT pavillion and was wondering if anyone knows if they might sell a german dress there? You know...like from the Sound of Music, lol? DD needs one as a costume for a performance and we are WDW bound in a few weeks...just thought ya'll might know! TIA!

I'm not aware of any German "costume" dresses being sold. You might find leiderhosen, but I've never seen dresses. (Doesn't mean they're not there ... just that I've never noticed.) I've seen dolls wearing German dresses ... and I think there might be a Minnie Mouse plush in German clothes, but I think that's it.

:earsboy:

The girls or ladies dresses are called dirndls. I'm not sure I've seen them for sale in the pavilion. If not, do an online search & get ready for a bit of sticker shock.

I see that you're from Long Island; I am too. There is a place in Franklin Square on Hempstead turnpike called Plattdeutsche Park. It's a German restaurant and in the back (it's huge), they hold German festivals where they do sell dirndl dresses. If you give them a call, I'm sure they can tell you when the festivals will be. The one my family used to attend every year is in the middle of June. Another idea is 86th Street in the city--that's the German area, and I'm sure you could find one there as well. Hope this helps.

As one who grew up wearing Trachten and still wears select pieces, Dirndl dresses are generally quite expensive. The 'complete' outfit includes the proper blouse as well as dress, usually an apron, and necklace. Not to mention often socks or stockings!

There are a lot of retailers for children in Germany, but even then prices are not that economical. There are online retailers which do export to America as well.

But I have never seen Trachten for sale in the German pavilion. Keep in mind that it is only one part of the larger part of German culture, which varies widely from region to region.

Linda - THANK YOU! I will try both places/areas and am soooo glad you posted these suggestions! We happen to be going into the city this weekend, too! lol

Bavaria - Thank you for the information. I have done an internet search and have seen the stockings and blouse all put together...so fun and many of them are just gorgeous with the embroidery. Thank you for the definitive answer to whether they are in EPCOT!

Amen to the sticker shock they were ** years ago when I was in the German club in High School!

If you just need a cheap knock-off (like for a play), you can usually find them at costume stores for Halloween. It's not costume season now, of course, but someone could probably order one for you.

I know Party City had them for about $20-$30 this past Halloween. :confused3
