Geriatric MM Warriors!

Oh Nell, dont be down!! Enjoy that cool weather! Dont forget we love you!!

Here is Diane's response to my question about the pumpkin, black soybeans, and I had also asked her what about Thanksgiving dinner...looks like we are NOT to have the pumpkin until step 3!! OMG
_________________________________________________________________

Hi Robin,
Pumpkin is the same as acorn, butternut, winter squash in that 1 cup is an 11-20 gram choice High Impact Carb on Step 3. If she has a recipe that keeps the total net grams of carb to 5 grams or less, it can be a 5x5 carb choice....but please be careful.....

Black soy beans are a neutral food on all steps.....

As for Thanksgiving dinner:
If you are on Step 1..."anything that happens within a 5 hour block (like Thanksgiving long dinner/dessert) is considered one "hit" to the pancreas. Because the pancreas and liver are on vacation on Step 1, hitting them with carb over 5 grams is like throwing ice and gatorade on the coach after the Superbowl. So...I advise anyone on Step 1 who wants to celebrate Thanksgiving with pie, pumpkin, dressing, potato....to add a full 3 days onto the end of their eight weeks. They also need to know that once you have a major break like this, your cravings will return so the next 3 days after Thanksgiving will be hard.
If you are on Step 2 or Maintenance at Thanksgiving...."anything that happens within a 5 hour block is considered one "hit" to the pancreas, but your pancreas is not totally relaxed. As long as you get right back on your program within 5 hours of the feast, this meal will count as one hit to the pancreas. If you have more than 2 hits in one week, you will need 10 days of Step 1 to "clean up."
Hope this helps......Diane

Thank you for sharing that. It clears it up quite a bit. Ok... No pumpkin, and no squash for me! That's ok, I like sweet potato anyway.

I'm kind of down today and I want a lot of food to eat. I'm not sure what's up with me. Anyway, I'm not eating a lot of food and I'm drinking water and writing here instead.

I'm blue too Nell...not sure why, but it's probably from not being able to do what I want on the weekends. I'm doing my week of detox and surprisingly, I'm not hungry, but I miss my decaf coffee in the a.m. Replaced with green tea. Hope everyone is having a nice Sunday!:lovestruc

:worried: OH, OH. I've had KW pumpkin pie 2 times, and pumpkin soup more than once!!!:sad2: All times, I counted as a 5x5 (within my 11-20). This gets really confusing. At times she says use the 5x5 rule for foods other than on the arrow chart and then she says not so good on the pumpkin. What do you guys think? Do I need to return to step1. I'm hoping not since I counted the pumpkin as part of an 11-20

Barb, I think you're fine and shouldn't worry. I think this plan is a little more forgiving that we're giving it credit for being. I believe what Diane said should serve as a warning for Thanksgiving and I'm so glad she explained it to Robin. However, I shall be having my pumpkin pie, I serve it only twice a year and will partake. I trust KW's thoughts on the pumpkin and honestly believe you're safe. I've not been spot on for a couple of weeks now and I'm still losing so there must be some forgiveness with it somehow.

Hi Hon. I was making pumpkin soup at the same time Robin posted that info  But I think you're right. I pulled the pumpkin can out of the garbage and for all the pumpkin in the recipe divided by 6 servings, it comes out to 2.3 grams carb per serving since the pumpkin is the only food that's not neutral in the recipe. Pumpkin's less carb than sweet potato and higher in fiber, so go figure..Thanks, I think I'll not worry about it.
You're right, I'm glad Robin asked about the planned cheats at Thankgiving. I don't plan on the whole meal deal anyway, just a small serving of a couple of my favs.

Robin, will you save that Diane response somewhere? You know we'll be wanting to remember that at some point. Thanks for the info. I'm really anxious now to get a chili recipe going using those black soybeans. :yay:

My house is finally empty! :upsidedow I should be cleaning it up, but I'm not!
It'll give me something to do tomorrow.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

We've had a slight warmup today with sunshine, oh how I needed that. By Wednesday it's suppose to be back into the 70's! Yes! I will get to mow one more time this season.

I went clothes shopping again today with a couple of my daughters. JCPennys still had a quite a bit of nice summer stuff on clearance so I snatched up five lighter weight tops for Mexico next month. Which put my mind back on thoughts of how I'm going to deal with this WOE while I'm down there. It makes me nervous thinking about it.
Did I tell you all we're building a home down there? It will be our part time retirement home. DH did the basic framing and layout over the existing structure and got one bathroom and most of the kitchen done this summer. This trip will be painting and further lay out approval from me. DD26 decided to take two weeks off from work and is going down with us. This lets me off the hook for staying down for three weeks, so now I can leave early to bring her back. We're building it with the intent of having lots and lots of people down to vacation during the cold northern months. You hear that Robin? It might be a nice stopping off point for your honeymoon or when you start your travels. Humm?

I need to go out for dinner, this weekend has wiped me out!
You all have a nice evening and thanks again for inviting me over!

How wonderful to have a vacation home down there!
You're on step2 right? I think if you just try to stick with poultry, fish and veggies and add a 11-20 at each meal you should be fine. Plus fruit should be easy to find.

Have a good dinner tonite!

Hi Nell. Some days are hungry days. No reason you can't eat more neutral snacks. Make sure you're eating enough. I ate more nuts yesterday than I normally do but I'm not going to worry about. This is for a lifetime, right?

:flower3:

Helloooooooo Met Miracle Warriors!!!!

Ok, fill me in here - is this where we are now? Or just another avenue for us to congregate? I've had a very hectic weekend between work, weddings and family/kids and worked like a DOG all day cleaning/shopping/cooking and ever rearranged my living room....OUT with the OLD and IN with the NEW! :hippie:

It's a reclaiming of sorts. I am pooped but very happy with the results. :yay:

How's everyone doing?? :grouphug::grouphug:

Sunnee

Sunnee  Happy to see you here! We are pretty much here now. Will probably cruise the new site that Diane sets up just so we can keep up with "Diane says" stuff. We just found some animosity growing over there and decided to start fresh over here, only with people we know are like minded. Friends who don't care if we chatter and share. When you get a chance read the rest of the thread here, it will give you some insight into what was going on over at LCF that caused our move here.

Pony, I do think no mention of us is weird, and probably pretty obvious that we are all not posting or not posting much. It reinforces my belief that there is a dialog going on that we were not privy to. Otherwise someone would have mentioned it.

Natalie, I can so relate. I've studied health for years trying to get well and it's obvious that Lisa and you have done the same. I know in my case if I passed along information is wasn't received as info from someone who knows how to be well because I don't appear well. At least I didn't before. What you shared about your marriage, floating through a few years. I think that all marriages go through periods like that. If you get through those times still friends and become close again then it makes the bond stronger. I don't know if this applies to you, but with me when I'm happier I'm a lot easier to get along with so things go nicer.

Good luck with your open house Lisa! I think it's great that your husband does laundry, even if he got in the habit by something difficult. Most people have odd little personality quirks. It could be a lot worse than a laundry obsession!:rolleyes1

Kathy, that's a good point. The syrups come in sugar free and sugar versions. Don't grab the wrong one by mistake!:scared1:

thanks Nell--I think we are on the other side of our problems now and me happier now is making things even better!!

Oh, Natalie: I forgot to say I'm sure you would make a terrific realtor. You are great with details and people. You could get in just in time for the turn-around:woohoo:

thank you!! don't know if my brain can handle the test again though!:upsidedow

Nell - I hope you had a nice cool sleep!

Lisa - I hope the open house goes well. At least we have nice weather today!

Gena - I am thinking about you and your dad.

Natalie - I am glad that you are getting the Queen treatment these days. We certainly deserve it don't we!!!

Barb - HI! Thanks for posting for us over on LCF! I am just amazed at how little activity is over there and that no one has missed us. There must definately be some behind-the-scenes stuff going on.

Well, I have another day of class. All day..... Poor me. I just made my taco salad to take with me.... And, I have my almonds and string cheese for snacks.... Do you think you could slow down a little today? Have a great day!

Kate--did I miss--what class are you taking? on a Sunday?? I love taco salads, sounds yummy.

Nell: It’s probably the weather changes making you weird. Try to stay consistent with your food, sleep and water – until Tutu gets here!:goodvibes

Barb and Pony: It’s weird how in sync we are! Thinking about the other site today and how I truly believe consequences are important for people to experience. Otherwise, they don’t learn. My conclusion was that if we post over there, GeorgiaLee might not get the lesson that she can’t treat people this way. Therefore, I have decided to pretty much stay away. It’s like a black hole compared to the lightness and fun here anyway.:rolleyes1

Big news! I heard from Abby! She’s fine and very busy with her cookie business. I waited til she emailed me to fill her in on the happenings so I hope she registers soon. I also heard from Tutu today. She’s been unwell the last couple of days but plans to be here tomorrow.:banana::banana:

Yippee on the black soy beans! Get those recipes out, Seabreezes; they are neutral!:cool2:Robin, this is cool beans!

We’d better start saving our Diane responses over here, too, huh? I got a good one from her. She says I am to stay on Step 2 since I didn’t mess up my foods. So, I plan to try to up the exercise since that’s the only thing I can do better.

Barb: She says not so good on the pumpkin just to warn you to make very sure it’s only 5 carbs. I think you can trust KW measurements.

Pam: How exciting about your retirement home! Where will it be in Mexico?:beach:

Sunnee! So glad you found us! We love it here and everyone wants to stay here.:dance3:

Kate: They did not slow down while we were working today! I am having black bean soup and a melted cheese tortilla again. It’s cooling off and I need soup!
:stir:
Lisa

Hellloooooooooo !! I am totally wiped out from my day off! So much to do, I guess it will be good to go back to work where I can relax!:rotfl:

Barb - I have saved every e-mail I have from Diane in a folder in my AOL mail, so anytime we need a "repeat" I GOT EM!! I agree with you and Pam that there is some leeway in the plan, I think Diane is just cautioning us that this is a step 3 veggie and not to overdo it. I think it is probably just one of the carbs that causes insulin to spike more easily, so counting it as a 5x5 and saving as a treat should work for us! I know that I am going to be making KW's pie for Thanksgiving and a single piece will make me happy. I seriously dont want the carb cravings to return, but I know when I spent the 3 weeks on step 2, those carbs didnt do a thing for me...in fact I really didnt even want them, much less any "bad carbs"!!

Sunnee - Yay!! Finally got you here! I am still working on a few others, like Cheryl, SueAnn, and Tom...they all wanted to come, so they have directions to get here and will hopefully be joining us soon. Tom is really busy with wedding details, Cheryl has been redoing her house, putting down new wood floors, etc and SueAnn had a busy weekend with her family opening a new store...so Im sure they will get here when they can.

Nell - hope you are feeling a little more chipper than earlier? I have hungry days on occasion too, I just eat MORE of whatever legal stuff I have lying around and it seems to do the trick.

Natalie - I make taco salads all the time...just use Lisa's recipe for taco seasoning so no carbs, then toss in some lettuce, salsa, lowfat cheese and some sour cream and I am a happy camper!!

Anybody else really ticked off that the whole boy in the balloon thing turns out to be his wacko father's publicity stunt? So many people across the country were worrying and praying for that child, so much money spent on searches, helicopters etc. and this jerk says he did it so he could get his own reality show? OMG I hope they all go to jail.:furious::furious:

Robin: I am heartsick for those children that they have such terrible examples for parents. The family will likely be split up and that little boy will feel guilty for his whole life! They are trash! Bless his little heart. I wish I could scoop up all the kids with bad families.

Hi Lisa! Hope you had a good day with your open house. I laughed when Diane said she was on vacation, then she has e-mailed me 3 times in 2 days!! I told her to get off the computer and go relax!! I have all my reponses from her saved, so if we decide to post them here somewhere, I have them all.

I did post on the other thread this morning, then decided no more, so I actually deleted it from my favorites!! Let Georgia see what she has done...there is next to nobody there...think we should tell Diane that we have escaped from Alcatraz??? Maybe if she knew there were only about a dozen hard core regulars here she might join in? :confused3

Pony needs to quit smoking, but work is such a stress...maybe after I lose another 25 pounds!! I need inspiration besides the fact that it can kill me...and the worst part is that I smoked for about 3 years in my late teens into 20, then quit until I turned 48!! OMG how pathetic is that!! I just had so much stress, I started again...:smokin:

:smokin: too :guilty: I always tell myself that if I quit I'll gain weight but I gain anyway..I'm thinking of trying Zyban once my weight is off. My Dr. has recommended it for me since I don't have any depression issues. Pony, you and me girl, before too long huh? Give em up. But before we do, let's hang out with a few Baileys and cigs :thumbsup2
