Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Afternoon all. The snow has started. It isn't too bad just yet. School let out at 12:30, so Carrie is home until she goes to work at 3. Her job is just a mile up the road from the house. We are all prepared for this, and I have plans to just settle in for the day/night/day.
Everyone be careful!!

Hi, Pam! It's great to see you! Glad to hear the detox is going well this time. You must remember to eat. I wish I had that problem, LOL! I think for my body, sugar has always been poison. I used to fantasize about frosting, but once I had it again, it wasn't the same thrill, that's for sure. Next time I plan a cheat, it might be for some bread and olive oil - some kind of carb that's not so hard on my system. We've successfully gone to Macaroni Grill many times and had them not bring the bread to the table. Mexican without the chips would have been unheard of before! In truth, I think that's the main reason we went, lol! We've been fine about not having chips, too. Bottom line: I think we've changed for good! I'm not sure we would have made it this far without all of you, so I hope all of our friends stick together as we continue this journey together. It's about a lot more than an eating plan, as we have come to know. We all really love each other.:grouphug:

Oh, I think Tom and I might take a drive tomorrow since it's not supposed to rain. We thought of a movie, but I've been so cooped up, it doesn't sound like a lot of fun to sit in the dark. I'd love to go all the way up to the snow, but the knee probably wouldn't have the best time on the way home. It will be fun to have him off in the middle of the week and at my 'beck and call', lol!:rolleyes1

I'm joining all you other people that are stuck at home. We've had a few car problems this last week so we were down to one car......then that car got totaled in an accident yesterday. My DD18 was driving down one of our main streets here and a girl turned out in front of her. I was so glad that no one was hurt. And I was soooooo glad it wasn't her fault. For all of her teenage snottiness, she's a very good driver and I was very proud of the way she handled the accident...calm and reassuring to the girl that hit her.

Robin and Kathy, I hope you guys can keep your power on during the next storms and at least be comfortable while you wait them out. I'm not a big tv watcher, but when we were without power a few weeks ago, I wished I had one of those small DVD players that can operate on batteries. I had a hard time reading for long by candlelight and just needed something to help wile away the hours. I'm glad you have a generator, Robin. At least all your refrigerated stuff didn't go bad and you were able to have a few lights. Good luck with these next few storms and stay safe!!!

Lisa, Wishing you a wonderful time on your special day. A drive sounds great. Are all the hills green and pretty up in No. Calif too? We have some trees starting to blossoms here as well. We haven't had much really cold weather with frost this year, so my garden is already growing with a bunch of volunteers...carrots, hot peppers, dill, cilantro and tomatoes. I'm glad to hear that your knee is doing better and you're able to at least work and show properties.

Pam, I agree with you. It's nice to be home if you want to, but when there is no other choice it can drive you CRAZY. I'm not a good stay-at-home person either. I find I need to get out at least once a day and do something constructive or I start to get depressed and weird. I've started doing some volunteer work and that has helped. Not with the weirdness but with the cabin fever.

I'm hoping that my car will be fixed today and so tomorrow won't be a repeat of today. Also tomorrow, I have the great honor of teaching my DD18 how to drive a stick-shift car. She's fighting me on this, but until we hear what's going to happen with her car, all that's left is our toyota with a manual transmission. I also think it's important that she acquire the skill of using a clutch and stick shift. You never know what life will hand you!

Good-bye for now.

Hi again LOL. Not much going on here. The snow stopped a while ago, but started back up around 6. We have only gotten a dusting so far. It is to come in intervals through tomorrow evening. the wind is supposed to kick up to about 30 mph, so there will be drifting snow.
Carol, sorry DD was in an accident. Thank God everyone is ok. I had a young girl hit me once, she had just gotten her license. She was so shaken up. I made sure she was ok, and kept reassuring her that it was an accident. No one was hurt, and she didn't do it on purpose. Her mom got to the "scene" about 10 minutes later. She was grateful I didn't go ballistic on her daughter. I told her my DD was getting her license in a few months, and although I didn't want her in an accident, if she ever was, I hope the other person would be kind to her. I just believe in treating people how you want to be treated or how you want your family treated. If we lose electric, we will fill our coolers up and put them outside. It's at least cold out there, so all frozen stuff will remain frozen and frige stuff will remain cold.
Lisa, I hope you enjoyed your day what ever you decided to do. If you want any snow, just let me know LOL.
Ok, getting ready for bed. Not sure what tomorrow will hold. Kind of hoping to have the day off. Just don't feel like working. I am thinking I need a change of jobs. Getting really bored with what I'm doing, but no weekends (for the most part), no evenings, and I'm my own boss. May have to do some heavy thinking on this one.
Have a great night everyone!!
Love you all :lovestruc

My gosh, I take a few days to move and your all buried in snow and Ice! :eek:

I hope everyone is doing ok. I'm a hormonal wreck having gone off plan... again. I've got the stuff in the house so that I can go through hell for three days... again. Can you tell my attitude stinks? I need to get over it, and quickly.

Tomorrow night is meditation. I think it's going to be right on time.

Hi

I'm here - doing fine.

Sorry about the awful weather a lot of you are having - I really can't imagine living in the cold!!

My Senior brain is not working well - someone said they were able to use a pool without chlorine, but were still having a problem with their skin. I have a friend who wants to put in a pool, but can't tolerate chlorine. I mentioned that someone else had the problem, but the non-chlorine pool was not perfect either. I would like to know how the non-chlorine pool was treated. She doesn't want to put in a pool and then not be able to use it at all. Thanks for any feedback........................

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LISA!!!!:cool1::banana::dance3::yay::cheer2::jumping1:
Have a super day and enjoy yourself!!
Not much going on here. We got about 6" last night and they are calling for another 2-4" today. Not sure if I can get out to go to work or not. School is closed again.
Robin, Diane, and everyone else affected by the storm please be careful!! I know I sound like a broken record, I just know how fun it is to drive in snow and ice :(
I'll check back later.

Happy Birthday Lisa!!party::bday:

I wish you a perfectly enjoyable day, :car: You deserve it! :hug:

Have a great day!:wave:

Thank you all so much! I wasn't that excited about another birthday until I saw you all! How sweet! We're taking off soon for a little drive and lunch - probably in historic Folsom (where Johnny Cash sang about the prison). It's an adorable Gold Rush town and we only live about 10 minutes away.

Jocelyn: The 'new' way to treat pools is with salt. It's very common in new homes. I have a friend whos child is very sensitive and they are pleased with the salt. Our next door neighbor has it too. Their pool never looks out of balance, if that helps any.

Everyone stay safe in that blizzard today! It's actually going to be a nice day here. I get a lot of rain on my birthday usually.

I am going to buy 10 lottery tickets today. I never do, but don't you think I have good numerals today?? 2.10.2010. I think that looks lucky. Tom said I should buy 54, but I'm not willing to risk that much money. The drawing is tonight so I'll know soon if I'm moving to Hawaii with Jocelyn!

Happy Birthday Lisa! :bday:party::bday:

I hope you win the lottery!

Well Happy Birthday to Lisa and also to Melanie! Hope you both have a really great day today, and good luck with your tickets Lisa!! LOL, sounds like a winning number to me!

Not going to work today...woke up to another couple inches of snow and ice, but really ridiculously high winds...like a darn hurricane at times...I dont trust the power not to go off again and cant leave the house empty for 12 hours just in case I have to run the gas logs...I havent taken a day off in so long they are fine with it...so here I am running water in buckets just in case, and the generator is gassed and ready to go. Took a very long hot shower too! LOL, that was the worst!

Ken is sitting on the mainland again unable to get out to their rig...high seas are keeping them from getting there...I think all these earthquakes must disturb the oceans...OMg, cant believe Chicago had one! LOL, we will be getting calls all week to add EQ coverage to people's homeowners policies!

Pam - what detox did you do? Im thinking I would be ready to try one just to give my system a jolt...feel like Im stalled again and already on Step 1 so where else can I go from there! LOL step 1/2 ??

Carol - OMG, so glad you DD is ok and the other girl too, I agree that treating her with patience and compassion will make her more careful and thoughtful with others in the future. As I tell my customers in insurance, NOBODY ever PLANS to have an accident! Hope her car will be fixed soon so you can get around...my Dad taught me how to drive a standard before he would even let me open the door to an automatic...he said you HAVE to know this first. He also took me out to the school parking lot and taught me how to drive in snow and slippery conditions! I think Drivers Ed should include a section on inclement weather before they hand out drivers licenses!

Nell - we need your new address! What in the world happened with Buddy's eye? That sounds just awful, but Im so glad he seems to be ok. Praying for you to get yourself together and get back on plan...you have done SO WELL and are such an inspiration to us!

Kathy - looks like the north is going to get slammed with this blizzard, but we are ok here as long as the power holds out through this crazy wind...the sun is actually out for a change, but the trees are bending over in the wind a little too much for comfort! Stay safe out there!

Jocelyn - well good to see you stranger! I have been telling my friends who inquire about our crazy weather that I am rolling quarters and checking the couch cushions to get the money for a plane ticket to Hawaii...it sounds better to me every day! Enjoy the warmth for me too will you!

Diane - hope you arent snowed in!

Hi Cindy!!

Happy Birthdy Lisa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (First things first!)

We seem to be in the middle of the weather. We did get some snow, but our schools were not cancelled and I am at work (darn!) At least it's payday!!!!
Of course, we're not planting our garden or driving up into the beautiful California hills either.:rotfl:

Carol - I am glad your DD was okay. I will never forget my dad teaching me to drive his manual truck. I swear that there were about 1/8" between 1st and 3rd gear. He took me to the State Fairgrounds to teach me. My best friend's DH is a Driver's Ed teacher and they own a manual transmission Focus. So when they came up for Amelia's family birthday dinner, they brought the Focus and Ferd took Adam out for some driving lessons. Better him than me.

Nell - I hope your move is complete and you can settle in and settle down. We need to see you.

Robin - I hope you keep your power on today! If not, you'll have the cleanest house in America (which I believe you already had).

Jocelyn - good to see you. Have you tried any more amazing recipes lately? I am going to have to start trying some myself.

Well, I am finished with my leftovers from last night, so it's back to work.

Have a great day!

Jocelyn,
I'm the one with the chlorine allergy. The salt water treatment seemed to be okay with me but you do have to add some chlorine to it also. I'm hoping to try a pool that is treated by Ozone...this is a treatment by light that kills bacteria and anything else yucky. They use this method for treating and purifying some cities' water. It is much more cost effective than chemicals but a bigger investment initially. Have your friend google it. My BF's husband works for the biggest nationally known ozone company called Del Ozone. It's here in San Luis Obispo. I think their site tells how it works. Her husband told me at one time that it would cost about $500-600 to set it up for a residential pool. Good Luck!

Lisa, Since I already sent you a smiley party to kick off your birthday week here's just a little wish :bday: Hope the drive is wonderful! If you win the Lottery remember us and the need to get the Godiva Ride happening ... ...although right now, I don't think Robin's is a good place for it...maybe it will need to be some sort of Hawaiian boat ride. All the east coasters would be on that in a New York second. LOL

Robin, Kathy, Pam, Natalie, and Cindy...Hope you all keep warm and safe through this series of storms. Take care if you have to go out and be safe!

Nell, Yay for the move and boo for the yucky, hormonal emotions. I'm sure the stress of moving has contributed greatly to those feelings also...I know I read someplace that moving is right up there on the stress level with other major life changes like loss of job and divorce. Hang in there!

I'm not looking forward to teaching my daughter to drive a stick shift today. I have always delegated the driving lessons to my husband....it's one of the things he seems to like to do. I think I may have talked my DD25 into taking her out for the initial drive and then I will take over from there. I just don't think I'm up for those first teenage girl outbursts and "WHY do I have to learn to drive this **** car" routine.

Am taking my friend out for lunch today. She's the one with the autistic son. He is now exhibiting some psychotic behavior with audio hallucinations.Needless to say, this is all rather overwhelming and depressing news for her.Along with spending each weekend building their house and being so exhausted from that, this is one more thing for her to carry. Her name is Holly and she could use all the prayers for strength and guidance you guys could send.

Thanks :):)

Hi everyone. Sitting here bored to tears LOL. I should be cleaning the house, but just plain don't feel like it. Made some banana bread for Mike and the kids. I have about 5 bananas that were going to be thrown out tonight if they didn't get used. It turned out really well. I've never made one from scratch. That then led to making Robin's not legal pumpkin bread. It turned out better than it did at Christmas.
The wind/snow here is crazy. The winds are at about 50 mph. We have to move our cars tomorrow morning very early as the boro just informed us they are plowing our street around 7 am. They don't have much to do in front of our house, as we have managed to keep it cleared where we park. But the snow pile is easily over 7 feet tall. Tyson doesn't even want to venture out in this today. If our electric goes out, we have a portable heater we use anyway. It is propane, and we have lots of that also. I will have to venture out to get milk and a couple other things yet today. Mike has been out and about a few times today.
Ok, off to do something, what I don't know. Feeling like a nap.

Melanie, I didn't know it is your birthday as well
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! :cool1::dance3::cheer2::cake::jumping1:party:

The network channels around here are acting like we've never had a snowstorm. There was nothing on TV today on those channels except snow coverage! NYC announced last night that all their schools would be closed today. I live 60 min. north of the city in the Hudson Valley and we only got about 5 inches. It stopped enough midday so I could get out and go to the supermarket. The road was just wet. Right now it's getting really windy.

I hope Lisa and Melanie have enjoyed their birthdays today! :flower3:

My son is back to work! He's adjusting to getting up at 4:30 again. :scared1:

Carol - I will pray for Holly and her son.
