Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Glad that things seem to be going well for everyone here.

Kathy, great that you're over your cold. No sweat suit for me. Thank goodness my exercise is in the water...no sweat involved.
Nell, I'm glad you're getting to move somewhere that feels more like home.
Lisa, Kudos on the okay to take short walks...soon this will all just be a memory and you will have endured it well.
Robin, I'm glad you were able to drag yourself off to work like a good little pony. Looks like you might get a 3 day weekend if the snow comes Friday day and it's too dangerous to drive in it. No more driving on ice!!! You skate on ice, not drive.

I'm trying to get myself into a schedule for swimming and need to bite the bullet and commit to certain times. I find if I just leave it to whatever I feel like that day, I will put it off and then probably not go at all. I like to go swim first thing in the morning, shower at the gym and then go to work. I'm not real good at exercising later in the day. My hat goes off to all of you who are able to do this.

My legs continue to be very achy...it's like a constant charlie horse in my left leg. So irritating!

Counseling hasn't been happening for my DH and me these past few weeks. I decided that his ADD needed to be tackled first. Hopefully with drugs he will be able to remember things we discuss and ways to heal our marriage. As it was, we were just kind of throwing the money for counseling away because he couldn't seem to remember what he was supposed to do to improve things. After the sessions, I would get all hopeful that things were going to change and I would stop being invisible, but that hasn't happened and I'm ending up more sad than before we started the counseling. ADD people tend to be the sole inhabitant of their universe. Drugs seem to quiet their brains enough to open the door to other worlds for them. I'm hoping they work for him.
Wishing you all a wonderful week.

Evening all! Home early again tonite, but chatting with Ken before coming here....awwww

Sent us on home around 8:30, as things are icing up again...now the snow is looking like it will start again Friday late morning, so might end up off Friday through Sunday, which will be nice to be home, but not so good for the paycheck! I swear if this snow keeps up I am moving to Hawaii...I will camp in a tent if I have to! hmmm, what to do with the ponies?

Diane -thanks for the info on the earbuds...now I remember thats what they called them...I have a dollar store close by, so will definitely be getting some!

Nell - LOL, sit next to the men! We have to be able to blame them for SOMETHING!!

Kathy and Lisa - cracking up here about the duct tape...you absolutely cannot LIVE on a farm without it!! I have it in all colors, and keep it in the car, truck, desk drawer, kitchen, basement, barn and trailer!! You KNOW you're a redneck when your duct tape is color coded!!

Carol - glad to see you, so sorry things arent going better...have you actually gotten him on meds yet or still researching? Hope things get moving along so you can get back to the counseling and hopefully make some forward motion and a chance at improvement!

Have to work tomorrow, and definitely plan to run to the store on my lunch hour...maybe I will actually be able to find some decent stuff before they pick the stores clean again on Friday!! I have oatmeal in the house, but havent been eating it on step 1...might have to try some anyway once a week or so...the ponies will be very relieved!!

Robin: Have you seen the contests where the kids make clothes out of duct tape? That's when I first learned it came in other colors, lol! I can just see you with your never-ending supply. Hope you find some decent food to last out the storm. Nothing like a stew or soup for cold weather. We actually had sunshine all day today! Rain coming back tomorrow night and I'll be out late writing an offer on a whoop dee do $73,000 house, lol!

Carol: I sure hope the meds help. It's likely it will take some tweaking, so I hope he stays in good contact with the doctor. My BIL is on a couple of daily meds for ADD. He's very much in love with my sister, but he is extremely emotionally immature and controlling of her time and attention. They've had to do a lot of work, but seem to be in a good place now. He has done things like go to the airport without his wallet and in his house shoes. She has to take care of checking every detail and they run a big business together. The main issue is that she is exhausted a lot of the time. She does love him, though. I wish you and your husband all the best in your quest to a better relationship.

Good morning everyone. I hope all is well.

Robin, just wondering if you've been making special requests with God. I have noticed all your major snow storms seem to hit on weekends. Did you request that so you could have 3 day weekends all winter? LOL I also have seen the duct tape in colors as well as camo. We just usually stick to the gray. We did get black once though LOL. I even keep some in my work bag. I have used it to tape broken weepers together at the offices. Whoever invented it is a genius in my book. Color coded, huh? Is that your type A personality coming through? LOL (love you )

Lisa, I am glad you're able to walk just a bit. My knee is almost 100%. Still can't bend it completely to sit on the floor, but much, much better. Just don't get discouraged and take care of it. Sunshine would be great right now. We have had a few days of it, but with it so darn cold, can't really enjoy it. Tyson is going stir crazy because it's even a bit too cold for walks. His paw pads would freeze in no time. Should have gotten the boots LOL.

Carol, as everyone else mentioned, just be patient (I know hard to do) while they get the medicine tweeked. ADD is very difficult to deal with. I think Mike has it, but he refuses to go to the doctor. He would fight tooth and nail I think. He absolutely hates doctors. He tends to be extremely scatter brained. But it could also be his paint poisoning. I will be praying for both of you. It's so hard to be so lonely. Been there, done that.

Laura, 2nd work out yesterday! I also had 48 oz of water!! YAAAAA! But I think I sweated out at least a gallon of water LOL.

Nell, hope the moving is coming along well. You will be so happy at your new home. I can just feel it

Ok, off to get dressed and brush the snow (again) off the van. We are under a winter weather watch from Friday afternoon till Saturday afternoon. We are on the line of 1-3" or 3-6". We are getting the storm that is now in OK.
Have a great day everyone!! I'll catch up later. After work, probably work out then clean my other offices. But I sleep like a baby!!

Well, my brother's part in Mercy was over before the opening credits! My friend sent me an email and said 'was that it?'. I personally think he will get an Emmy nomination. :lmao:

The snow is supposed to hit here tomorrow night into Saturday. They're still up in the air about how much we're going to get. either 1-3 or 4-6. We're supposed to go to the Musuem of NYC on Saturday with a few friends. I don't think it'll happen. One lives in NYC, but the other 2 are coming from NJ. I think NJ will be getting more of the storm.

Carol - I hope your husband responds well to the medications. I pray for your strength and patience. Although it sounds like you have a lot of both.

Carol - I hope the medication helps. I need to read more about ADD. My sister is ADD and I always thought she was one of the most self-absorbed, selfish people I know. Don't get me wrong, I love her dearly. But she always puts her needs first - even ahead of her own children (something I have never been very good at doing). She is married to someone with ADD so maybe they don't even notice that each is in his/her own world? Take care of yourself. I am sending hugs!

Robin: Have you seen the contests where the kids make clothes out of duct tape? That's when I first learned it came in other colors, lol! I can just see you with your never-ending supply.

One of my girls made a wallet out of duct tape and used it for a long time. The other one made a pair of sandals although I don't recall them ever being worn!

Be careful tonight if you are driving to write up that offer.

I joked about my sister and BIL not noticing each other since they both have ADD. I know it isn't actually funny. I have watched them try to get ready to leave and they can't get out the door because they keep forgetting things. I hate having dinner at my sisters house because there are always at least two trips to the store while she is making dinner to get the stuff she forgot. And, then there should be a third trip but by then we just say "forget about it." They have a hard time doing things like paying their car registrations because they lose the notice before it gets paid. Balance a checkbook? Never! My BIL is also bi-polar. It makes me realize that I should be more grateful for the blessings in my life!

Well, I didn't get to the gym yesterday but Halle and I got a walk in. It is up the hill by my house and it is a good, quick 30 minute "work-out." We are going to do it again this morning!

I hope that you get your mobility back soon. I am so glad that you are still seeing positive results.

Sounds like J-P is having a blast!

Nell - are you moved yet? Keep us posted? I hope your animal-family settles in at the new place.

Everyone,
Thanks for all your well wishes for the ADD challenge. About 4 years ago we went thru trials of some ADD meds and only found 1 that worked. The problem with it was that it gave him something called "bruxism", which is uncontrolled teeth grinding. Painful, but at this point I'm thinking it might be worth it. I kind of gave up looking further at that point.
Got a call back from a Psychiatrist's office that said they work with ADD adults so am probably going to make an appt. I just need to see if I can find out anything about the doctor, as I hate to go to someone that we know nothing about. Having worked as a psych nurse, I know that there are a lot of very strange and unpleasant Psychiatrists.

Okay, since we're talking of duct tape.........What are really the only 2 tools that you need in your tool box?

WD 40 for things that don't move and should.....Duct tape for all those things that move and shouldn't. :lmao:

One of the few jokes that I can remember. I have no problem with the punch lines to jokes....just can't seem to remember how to get to them.

Sending wishes for a great day for you all,

Carol

Kate: I could so relate to your descriptions of your sis and BIL. My BIL is Pat and their friends have a code they call 'WFP'. Waiting For Pat. I am quite sure he is bi-polar too. It's so obvious if you've read anything about it, but because one doctor they went to told them he isn't, they've never pursued any more treatment. He has dramatic mood swings, which include dark depression, and is very much like Jim Carrey. It's a roller coaster. On the other hand, often these people are very creative and have genius intelligence.

Good afternoon all. Just got home from work. Beat today!! Maybe pushing myself too much at once. Not sure if I'll work out today. I still have to go to work this evening. The offices close at 5, so I usually go around 5:30 and try to not be later than 6.
I think I may tell Mike I want to join our local YMCA. It is only about 2 or 3 miles down the road. I have been putting tons of gas in the van and we've only gone to work out 2 days! It is 15 miles one way. The local Y costs $50/month for a family, but you have to pay an initiation fee I'll have to call them. I know they also have a sauna and hot tub as well as some other things and the swimming pool. I can commit a bit better to that as I can drive past it on the way home if I change my route a bit, but still not out my way at all!!
Diane, I have heard that joke before, and it still cracks me up LOL. Thanks for the chuckle.
Ok, off to either work out or work. Catch you all later!!

The American Heart Association wants us to wear red tomorrow to raise awareness for heart disease among women. Little red dress on a Friday - could be fun!

Nell: Arthur Ray was arrested on 3 counts of manslaughter for those deaths in Sedona at the sweat lodge. $5 million bail.

Wow! You know, it was really irresponsible of him to have the heat lodge so large and nobody checking on the health of the occupants. I hope instead of people developing criticism about Native spiritual practices, they instead realize that they need to be respected.

Wow, 1 am and finally getting to check in with you guys! We were super busy at work all day, plus the average daily meltdowns from all the co-workers who think the impending snowstorm means they must go to WalMart immediately and stock up on enough food and supplies to fill a bomb shelter for a month!! I mean, GEEZ, it might be a few days, but how much food can you really need?

Lisa - If I cant get to Hawaii, then darn it Im coming to California!! this weather is just completely out of control here!

Diane - I believe we should all attend the Emmy's to watch your brother receive his award! LOL, too funny!

Kathy - yep, Type A duct tape color coding.... dont think I could have it any other way! LOL, my mom thinks Im nuts...as for the Divine requests, it has not escaped notice here, that every storm has occured on a Friday, leading to an extended weekend! I do like the days off, but it is definitely not good to miss out on Saturday sales opportunities, so its definitely NOT good for the pocketbook!

Kate - I believe I saw a duct tape wallet in some catalog I get somewhere...actually thought it would be a great gag gift for my neighbor!!

Carol - good joke, Im writing that one down! I can never remember the darn punch lines!

Well, managed to procure eggs, another cauliflower, 3 green peppers, some cheese, an onion, 2 small containers of ricotta, small bag of pistachos, kielbasa, and two packages of sugar free deli turkey breast...any ideas for this interesting conglomeration of items! See y'all in the am, have to call the Nationwide emergency weather hotline (seriously, thats what its called) at 8am for the official yay or nay on the office closing, but since the snow is due to start in a few hours and continue all the way til Saturday afternoon, I think its safe to say we will be closed! And also safe to say I will be snowbound for days and days once again! Heres hoping we dont lose power so at least I will be able to chat with you folks!

Hi,

I just got caught up - first time on the computer today. It was a "Paws and Claws" day as well as an appointment at the hospital for an echo gram of my heart. I never realized how much noise our hearts make as they beat away. Interesting.

Bob and I then went to the shopping center for some shoe shopping fo him - something we rarely do. He HATES to shop, but I just can't bring home shoes for him to try on so off we went! We don't have a lot of choices here, but did hit all of them and he found some he liked. Yhank goodness we got a Nordstrom's last year!!!

Kathy - YAY for being brave and starting step 2 at the end of the month. I'm going to muddle along the way I have been until the end of March and then will maybe try step 2, but have too much travelling and entertaining between now and then to be on any real program except one that limits carbs as much as possible.

Carol - a special hug for all of your traumas. I am sooooo lucky to have the hubby I have - we are best friends and couldn't do without each other.

It is late - have an early appointment with the chiropracter - which is really helping the back along with all the other things I am doing for it, so will say Good Night!!

Hugs to ALL:grouphug:

OMG! Brad and Halle have been on a wake-up-at-4:00a.m. kick.... They try to be quiet but it doesn't last for long. Plus, Brad turns the heat on because the rest of the house is cold but our bedroom is small and pretty soon I wake up because I feel like I am suffocating. Arrrrggggghhh.

I am so glad it is Friday. I have had a hectic week. Yesterday, one of my clients told me that she is going to "lose" $300,000 so she doesn't have to share any of it with her husband. We spent an hour talking about it and she feels justified since her husband of 20 years was arrested with a HUGE child porn collection. I understand her feelings but I can't support what she wants to do so we have to have another long talk today.

I had dinner with Demi, my older daughter, last night. She lives in SF. I almost didn't go because it was pouring rain but I went and I glad that I did. She still loves her donut making job and is in a good place in her life. She is living in small, four bedroom flat with four other adults. They have one bathroom for five people! She pays $750/month and doesn't live in what would be considered a nice are of SF. At least they have a washer and dryer. And, in my opinion, the best thing is that it is right around corner from her work so no more riding her bike to work at 3:00 a.m. I couldn't believe how many people were riding their bikes in the dark and pouring rain last night when I drove in to see her. They are NOT easy to see. I won't tell you about the butterscotch pudding that I had to share with her for dessert.....

Brad has his red shirt on! Ross employees are supposed to wear red shirts every Friday this month. Last Friday he forgot and had to buy one at his store.
