Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Ah Bev, so sorry you are going through this...my 2 cents, for what its worth, is definitely take the TV and friend visits away for the two weeks...be sure she understands why you are so upset, figure out where she got the bullet from...did the boy show it to her, was it locked up, etc etc...and Im not understanding if the party is HER party or a friends party...if it is for her, DEFINITELY reschedule...no way I would reward her with a party during the two week punishment. If it is another friend's party and you have committed to drive...Myself, I would go and do the driving but my daughter would not be attending!
Sorry folks, but Im a real hard - a#* when it comes to stuff like this...guns, ammo etc are NOTHING to fool around with! Send the right message RIGHT NOW so there is no misunderstanding later!

Lisa - hope you werent upset with my FB comment about Mass Voters...I KNOW that health care needs some reform, but Obamas plan would only improve health care for those who have NONE now, and would take those of us who DO have it, and place us in a position of waiting for appointments, waiting for needed surgeries, having far less control over our choices of doctors and treatments,,,and I find that VERY SCARY...my Dad was a Canadian citizen and believe me, most canadians are NOT impressed with their health care system. I pray that our lawmakers will take their time and come up with a viable and reasonable plan to benefit EVERYONE. :confused3

Kathy - I agree that the only way I could probably choke down the guacmole would be with MAJOR numbers of chips!! LOL, But I am going to be BRAVE, and try Lisa's idea of the BLT with avocado thing...maybe I can put it all in a wrap and see what happens! mmmm, low carb wrap (YUK), with some turkey, cheese, lettuce, avocado (yuk), and sprouts (yuk)...I could just finish myself off and throw some shrooms in there too! :lmao:

Robin: My comment about health care DOES apply to those of us who have it now - we have amazing coverage and if my husband loses his job none of us will qualify to get new health care. This is not as black and white as many may think. Until it knocks at your door, you don't know how it feels. I am terrified that my son won't qualify for a policy when he is dropped from our insurance in March. He was hit by a car and now has a condition with his elbow that will be lifelong. People with cancer are denied coverage every day in the richest country on earth. We've worked hard, done everything right and paid our taxes and we are scared we would go bankrupt with health care costs if Tom changed employers or lost his job since he’s had cancer and J-P has had issues with his arm. I hope we can see some reform at least that will help families like ours. Obama didn't write the current proposed legislation. There have been compromises in Congress and there will likely be many more, but I hope the issue doesn't die completely. We are not charity cases and yet here we find ourselves scared to death, nonetheless.

Lisa - OMG, those blue corn tortilla chips ROCK!! I was using those too on step 2...YUMMY. Sorry you and the Bonnie -dog are bored and lonely tonight...Im sulking that I cant watch American Idol due to being here at work! I have GOT to figure out that DVR thingie...dont really care too much about the auditions, but I do like watching it when they get down to the top 10! Im still not deflating my belly much, but it has a little bit. I was most excited to finally meaure my hips and see a little over an inch lost though! I have been diligent about my green tea, so maybe that is helping some.

I just wrote a book and lost it!!!

Well, hello everyone. Don't have time to do it again and I can't for the life of me figure out why this site asks me to log in every time I come back!

Have a nice evening!!

Cin

Lisa - me again...I totally agree with you on this...there is no reason why we should all be terrified to lose our insurance. Believe me, I know as well as anyone...I was not insured when I had the blood clot in my lung back in 2005...racked up $40,000 in a month and had NO IDEA what to do about it...and was denied any assistance as I was a co-owner of my mothers home....it was a total nightmare. Then I lost my insurance when I got laid off last year for 2 months, and went a total of 5 months without, as my new plan didnt kick in until I had been with the company for 90 days. And I also know that I am only insurable now due to the fact that I am insured through my job and they have no CHOICE but to insure me! I AM WITH YOU ON THIS!! I just hope and pray they can come up with something that wont compromise everyone to benefit others....it needs to be a fair and equitable plan. I have a Canadian friend now, who comes HERE for major medical issues as she cant get the care she wants or needs through her health plan there. Thats just as scary to me! And I KNOW Obama didnt write the plan, just calling it his plan as he is the one promoting it!

Cindy - Write the book again! We want to hear from you! LOL, I think when you go away and dont log in for awhile it makes you do it again...does it to me once in awhile too...I know my yahoo messenger does that to me too, just randomly makes me log in again for no apparent reason! FB does that from time to time too...ticks me off, as I can never remember all the darned passwords!!

Are you guys sick of me yet? Im so bored Im posting every 5 minutes!! UGH...heading to the gym then home...hopefully you are rid of me for the evening! LOVE YOU ALL!

Cindy,

This site used to sign me off all the time, too. I lost every post until I started copying them before I posted and then pasting them in once I had logged in again. Somehow, after I checked the "remember me for further sessions" box ( or maybe there was a place on my info page that I changed to keep me logged on) anyway, all of a sudden, I don't ever have to log in and my posts aren't lost. Maybe it's just Magic. I have absolutely no computer skills, so it probably wasn't due to anything I intentionally did. You might want to ask one of your small children and they will be able to sort it out for you. Without Fail!

Good Luck
Carol

Nice! We don't have those available over here. The ones I found that fit the formula are blue corn and they are really delicious. Start looking at the stores now so you know what to buy when you get to Step 2. What's your Step 2 date? I'm getting so anxious to be able to exercise. It's driving me nuts to sit around with my legs elevated. I'm slowly getting better. I have to show houses tomorrow and I sure wish I could wear my boots - it's really, really wet around here.

Thanks for the heads up on the chips, Lisa. We have a couple different "makers" of the blue ones here. I will be checking it out for sure. I am lucky enough that our health food store had started getting in sami wraps, bread, the flavored chip things, and they get their delivery of Fridays. The stuff goes very quickly. Last time, I bought 3 bags of the wraps and froze 2. I have 1/2 package in the frige and a package in the freezer left. I need to get some flat bread wraps. I forgot all about those! I love them!!!
I am so with you on the sitting around. I get up for 1/2 hour and do a bit of house work then sit down for about an hour. It seems to be working. Yesterday it didn't hurt too bad. I worked an 11 hour day, and it didn't bother me too bad. I did manage to find the arnica gel, and tried it before I went to clean my office. My knee did stop aching! I am taking it to work with me today. Take care of the knee and ankle too. You could always do chair exercises. Are you doing exercises on your knee any? My chiropractor showed me some to do. They are more or less stretching type of exercises for it.
Have a great day and stay away from those boots for a little while later!!

Good morning everyone. Hope you all got rested last night. I fell asleep not much after the last post here. I was beat!! Slept pretty good too.

To all you out in CA, please be careful!! The news just showed some videos of the rain and flooded street/highways. Please remember (I know, I know) NEVER drive into deep water. Even if you think it's only a little bit. It can be deeper than you think. Please be careful with all the power outages and such. Sorry if I sound like mother hen. Just worry about you all.

Jocelyn, are you getting any of these storms/rain? I think I remember you saying something about rain or storms. Are you ok? Haven't heard from you!!

Not much going on here. We are to get a wintery mix again tonight and tomorrow. I only saw the tail end of the weather, but they are saying, rain/snow/sleet. Robin, are you to get any of this? I think it is coming up from the south. If so, be careful!!!

As for the health insurance, Mike's uncle lives in Canada and needed a serious surgery. He ended up coming down to the states because he would have had to wait 8 months for it up in Canada. He came down here and had it done within a couple weeks. He paid for it on his own, and it was very expensive.
Lisa, I can understand what you're saying about your situation. It IS very scary. I think these politicians and such need to live our lives for a year and then they would know what we all need. As Mike says, we can't afford to get sick. He doesn't have any health insurance after being laid off last Feb.

Diane, saying a prayer you get a job soon!! I know Mike has been off for almost a year. Thank God he just got his 2nd extension. Not much in the way of jobs here either :(

Say a little prayer guys. Mike put an application in for the Local Heavy Equipments Operators. If he can get this job, he would have great benefits, pay, etc. He would have to travel, but we have managed that before. This would definitely (thanks Lisa, spelt right LOL) be an answer to our prayers.

Ok, going to get my day started. I'll try to check in later. Have to work tonight again so I won't have to do it this weekend. Have a great day everyone!!

Thanks all for your input. Her father and I spoke further with her last night (I asked her what she thought her punishment should be) and decided that her punishment is grounding for 2 weeks. What that means is she comes home from school and does her homework, helps get dinner ready and on the table, and then to her room after dinner. No TV, no playing outside, no computer, no nothing. She will not be allowed to attend Jonny's birthday party this Saturday night. She can read in her room, etc. We decided to leave her birthday party alone for a couple of reasons. #1 - she had decided on her own to return the bullet to her friend. #2 - when she found out he was in trouble with the Vice Principal, she went (of her own volition) to talk to the VP and explain that it was her fault, not Jonny's. We couldn't reschedule her party because there was not another day that would work in my husband's schedule. His job entails working weekends, and the only reason he is off next Saturday is because it is "shutdown" at his club. So that is today's update on the "drama train."

Bev, I am so sorry this has happened. Does she understand what she has done and why it was wrong? I know she didn't mean to have anything happen.
As for punishment, I would take the tv away as well as no friends for a week or two. Just make sure you keep in mind her age. I honestly don't think she realized what she was doing as being wrong. As for the party, if it had already been planned and people are relying on you for a carpool so to speak, then I say go ahead and do it. I feel so bad for her and for you. I am sending some prayers your way that the other parents will be understanding about this.
My question is, how did she manage to get a "live" bullet at their house? Do they not keep them under lock and key?
I grew up with guns in the house that weren't locked up, but we also knew to NEVER touch them without an adult. When we went to camp, we were always taught how to shoot the 22 with dad or our friend's dad right beside us. Just seems weird that she was able to gain access to the ammunition.
Just my 2 cents

Kathy - Yes, she realizes what she did was wrong, on both levels. She realizes that she shouldn't have stolen from her friend, and thus she was trying to return it on the bus. She also knows she shouldn't have taken it to school. After she got to school on Tuesday, she realized it was in her jacket pocket, so she took it out to her locker and put it in her bookbag so she could return it to Jonny after school. Unfortunately, it fell out of Jonny's bookbag and the bus driver found it on the floor of the bus when she cleaned up that night.

As for how she got it, Bob spoke with Jonny's dad last night. It seems that Jonny's dad found it on the ground at Gander Mountain and picked it up. Jonny must have found it and had it setting on his dresser. His dad is a hunter and very into gun safety. They don't even have a gun that fits this bullet.

So far the other parents seem very understanding. They feel bad that the bullet was even there.

Beverly,

Welcome to the world of teens and pre-teens. I really had very few issues with my older 3 kids but did have some challenges like this with my youngest daughter. Making bad, stupid choices happened several times.

Grounding for 2 wks sounds fair. No t.v. during that time is something I'm all for. I'm of the "no tv ever because it has no redeeming qualities and encourages you to focus on wants instead of needs" type of person. I really feel that quite a few situations are instigated by seeing someone on a tv program do some irresponsible thing and making it a familiar behavior for you to do. Oh well, that's just me.

If it were me, I would postpone the party until after she's off restriction. Not as a punishment per say, but just as not being appropriate for someone that is on restriction. It kind of takes the consequence of the grounding away. She would have it to look forward to as a reward for completing her "banishment" from society.

Like Lisa, I would also be concerned about the friend's parents failure to keep these live bullets away from their children and friends. Haven't they learned anything from all the high school shootings? What was their son doing taking them out to show them to your daughter? That was very irresponsible on his part, too. Yes, she shouldn't have taken it, but she also should not have had that opportunity. They need to own their part in this, too.

Good Luck, Beverly. Hopefully you won't have too many of these occurrences as your kids go through their teens. That is something I will pray for for you!

Carol - this is the first time I have ever had an issue with either child, and I believe that she has learned. I explained to her last night that Karma had bit her in the butt. If she had never stolen the bullet, none of this would have ever happened.

Obviously, we have similar ideas about punishment. As you can see from my "blurb" above, she did get 2 weeks grounding with no TV. However, due to scheduling issues, her b-day party is being held during her grounding. Last night she realized she would be grounded on her b-day. Oh well, you live with the choices you make. This morning she was sitting there looking sad and told me she regretted the choice she made. I think she was hoping her dad and I would relent on the TV, but that is non-negotiable. She left with her dad at 6:30 a.m. She will sit in his office and write her apology letters to Jonny and his parents, and then her dad will take her to pick up her homework. It is then off to grandma's. I told mom she could use Amelia any way she wanted for household chores, but if the TV was on, Amelia needed to be in another room.

I'm getting so anxious to be able to exercise. It's driving me nuts to sit around with my legs elevated. I'm slowly getting better. I have to show houses tomorrow and I sure wish I could wear my boots - it's really, really wet around here.

Lisa - Glad to know your knee is feeling better. Wear those cute new flats and try to stay dry. We are expecting more rain this afternoon, and had fog like pea soup again this a.m. Luckily the temp is above freezing, so we don't have a coating of ice anymore.

Non-scale victories rock!

I just wrote a book and lost it!!!

Well, hello everyone. Don't have time to do it again and I can't for the life of me figure out why this site asks me to log in every time I come back!

Have a nice evening!!

Cin

You don't need to write us a book. Just stick around and let us know how you are doing.

Jocelyn, are you getting any of these storms/rain? I think I remember you saying something about rain or storms. Are you ok? Haven't heard from you!!

Kathy - prayers for Mike and the job opportunity. Be careful in this weather. We are getting rain again but luckily no more wintery mix (at least not this week). My son seemed to think spring would be coming soon. I just laughed.

Well, I am working again today so I'll check back in later. I just wanted to thank all of you for your input.

Morning All, looks like another blustery and gloomy weather day here, but thats ok, its getting dark later and later so I know spring isnt THAT far away!

Kathy - looks like it will be a mostly rain, possibly a little ice event here, so must be getting colder as we send it up to you! Be careful driving! Praying HARD for Mike to get that job...that would be so wonderful for you guys! Your comment about the politicians living our lives for a year is a good one...I wonder just how many of them have NOT lived lives of luxury or at least of priviledge since childhood...dont hear about too many that come from poverty or blue collar upbringings...so how much can they REALLY understand of our situations?

Lisa - my mom told me if I get an avocado, you can take the pit and put toothpicks in it and suspend it over a glass of water and it will sprout into a little tree you can plant? Is she crazy? How cool would that be! Not sure if avocado trees will grow here, but it would be fun to try!

Bev - sounds like you have the situation firmly in hand...She will remember this lesson and probably be the little soldier that acts as conscience for her friends now too! Great Job...although I know it will be hard to enforce when you are looking at the sad puppy eyes...sounds like the other parents learned a lesson too. Amazing how seemingly simple things we do snowball into major events. I am so grateful mine are grown and on their own, so so difficult to raise children in these tough times. Never even had to think about some of this stuff when mine were little.

Carol - LOL, when my computer or cell phone need a little something I go STRAIGHT to my 14 year old Godson! They know EVERYTHING!! I can agonize over it for hours and he fixes it in 2 minutes flat!

Off to drop off some homemade mac and cheese to Dennis and Rick...his favorite and I am still trying to entice him to eat more....OMG making this was TOUGH...I LOVE mac and cheese!! then back to the desk and the daily grind...see y'all later!

:confused3

My Mom was a Canadian citizen too. Many relatives up there and none of them are happy with the (lack of) care they get. Health care does need reform. The bill they are trying to push through just turned into a giant mish mash of special deals and mandates that states and the people can't afford. Any of us over 50 should be very concerned because seniors will be hurt the most. I'm with you, I'm hoping lawmakers stop and take smart steps to improve health care access and lower costs.

Hi Kate! I wasn't ignoring you, it just took me a long time to respond, and by then you have been posting away! Almonds are one of my most favorite nuts, and I even prefer them raw! I wish I had some here now.

Hmmmmmmm - too bad I can't zap the almonds to you because we always have an over abundance of them. I even put them in the freezer!

Kate: We have to meet for food sometime and it should include guacamole! Think of finite (like in math) to help with spelling definitely. I will need a whole new set of travel prayers for J-P on Feb. 1. He’s flying to Jackson, Wyoming to work onsite for Travis Rice, the famous snowboarder. I’m not as worried about the trip as I am about him trying to keep up with Travis on the slopes!!!! It’s been a wonderful blessing for him to meet Travis and a real honor for him to do this work so I’m happy for him anyway. I need to know what happened with Chloe’s cafeteria plan letter;) I have power today, but the wind is setting my nerves on edge. It’s awful today.

Thanks for the spelling tip. I don't think I will have problems with that word anymore! I don't realize how much I rely on spell check until I can't use it. I am the new editor of our monthly newsletter for the local Bar Association. It is nice to see that other people have problems with spelling and word usage!

What a great opportunity for J-P! He must be thrilled and excited. As if I don't need something else to worry about, Chloe got a season pass to a ski place outside of Seattle (Snoqualime?). She boards. She went on Monday and is thinking about going again today. I don't know if I have explained the details of my crazy family to everyone - probably not because if you aren't in the family, it takes years to figure it out. Anyway, my mom and her boyfriend at the time (almost 20 years ago) had a surrogate mom have a baby for them so I have an adopted brother - Toby. I adore Toby - he is going to Univ of WA. Age wise, he is right in between my girls so they grew up together - lots of vacations, etc. Anyway, I saw a picture of Toby on FB yesterday. The underside of his chin is raw, scraped up and bruised! It looked horrible! He did it snowboarding at the place where Chloe goes. I told him he better not try to teach her whatever trick he was trying to do! At least Chloe let me buy her a helmet for Christmas.

Chloe wasn't able to resolve her cafeteria problems. She is considering moving off campus. I would prefer that she live on campus - at least for the rest of this year - but I have bigger things to worry about (like her driving and snowboarding! :)).

How are you feeling! Congrats on the continued progress! How is Tom doing?

I'm thinking about all of you in stormy California. Please be careful

I wanted to update you all on the recipes I posted that use the blanched almond flour. The bisquits are great. The Cheez-its are wonderful. Just be sure to roll them out very thin (1/16th inch). Great for dipping or stacking with lunchmeat.
The blackbean(or soybean) burgers are good too. I top them with sourcream and a little salsa YUM.

The prosecutor that I work with is taking me and his paralegal out to lunch today :) I just hope he takes us somewhere I can eat legal. I'll just stick with salad if that's the only choice then come back to work and eat some of my homemade meatloaf.
I'm finally back on track from my over-the-holidays cheats. Clean for a week now on step1 and the hungries have diminished. Whew! I decided that there's no way I'm going into summer wearing shorts and tank tops without getting some more inches off. The last few days have been mild and partly sunny so I can see that summer is coming :lovestruc

Hello all,
I was wanting to send a big hello to everyone, letting you all know we are not on this program at this time we went from Thanksgiving to Christmas and noone had lost anything, so we are trying something else for now at least. We have not forgotten you all though, just been really busy lol like everyone else I guess. We are expecting an ice storm here today and night so we will see how that goes. I am suppose to attend a craft festival in Feb. so I am trying to get my inventory up for it and it keeps me really busy that and reg life hehe.

All of you are in my thoughts and prayers! Hope all is well!

Hi Melanie! Good Luck and Good Health with whatever you're trying!

Good afternoon everyone.
Melanie, great to see you. I hope whatever you're doing works for you. We all understand that what works for one may not work for another. Does this mean we need to change our name to just The Warriors? LOL. It is really good to see you!! And good luck at the festival!! I can't believe Feb. is almost here already!

Lisa, I must be loosing my mind. I was at Walmart and got my salad stuff and guess what else? An avocado! It has just the slightest give when I push on it. I also bought the flat bread, so I had a sandwich, minus the avocado. I do peel it, don't I? I am going to slice it ever so thin and put it on my sandwich with lots of leaf lettuce and mayo. Maybe I won't taste it then. I am hoping like Robin to acquire the taste for it.

I only had a 1/2 day today, my afternoon house didn't want me today. This is the lady that I clean for 4 days a week. So I will be rested up enough to do my other offices tonight. We are supposed to get the sleet/freezing rain/snow this evening into tomorrow morning.

Ok, going to read online for a bit.:surfweb: If I missed anyone, please forgive me :grouphug:

Stayed on plan today YAAAA! But the day isn't over either

Your recipes sound yummy. That's the one thing I have found. If nothing else, I can have a boring salad with ranch dressing. Not very exciting, but can be found almost everywhere.

Glad to know the hungries have finally left!

OOH, an avocado. :woohoo: What are they supposed to be good for? I swear by the time I eat and drink everything that is supposed to be good for me and that will trim my belly fat, there isn't any room to eat anything else.

Be safe!
